First visit Newgrange (c 3,200 B.C.), it is the best-known monument of the World Heritage Site of Brú na Bóinne, predating the ancient pyramids by 400 years and Stonehenge by 1000. Visit Monasterboice, an early Christian site with a Round Tower and 10th Century High Cross, the Hill of Tara (seat of the high kings of Ireland) or Trim Castle, the largest Anglo- Norman castle in Ireland and part of Braveheart s film set. 2-WICKLOW Wicklow mountains and national park where sits the beautiful Glendalough are renowned for the Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin. 4-WATERFORD Waterford, a seaport in southeast Ireland, is the country s oldest city and parts of its ancient walled core remain. The Waterford Museum of Treasures displays local archaeological finds. Famed glass manufacturer Waterford Crystal began here in 1783. Today the company s modern facility near the historic district offers factory tours 5-KILKENNY Kilkenny, known as the Marble City due to the picturesque limestone buildings is one of the Southeast s biggest tourist draws. Walk the Medieval mile of the traditional narrow streets and historic buildings flanked by the imposing Kilkenny Castle and cathedral on the banks of the river Nore. 8-CLARE & LIMERICK Limerick city s mediaeval history can be imagined when viewing the historic Saint s John s Castle. 10- MAYO Mayo s stunning unspoilt coastline is not to be missed. Visit Westport town or take in the surfing and coastal walks for which the region is becoming popular. The region has some of the best Castle Hotels and Country Manor Houses in Ireland. This castle hotel expierence is a must. 11-DONEGAL Travelling around county Donegal s coast can take days! The route is approximately 557 km (346miles). Take the southern loop leaving Donegal town, head for the coast and take in the sights.
