1. Preparations for the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacifi c Date and place 12 16 October 2015 Hyatt Regency Guam The sixty-sixth session of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific will be held on Guam, United States of America, from 12 to 16 October 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Guam, 1155 Pale San Vitores Road, Tamuning, Guam. The opening ceremony begins at 10:30 on 12 October 2015 at the SandCastle Dinner Theater, 1199 Pale San Vitores, Tumon, Guam. The plenary session will commence at 14:00 at the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Guam. Subsequent sessions will take place daily from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30, with 15-minute coffee breaks during each period. 2 for the Western Pacific, Guam, 2015

Languages The official languages of the Regional Committee are Chinese, English and French. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for the three official languages during the sessions. English and French are the working languages. Identifi cation and security For identification and security, representatives should wear identification badges at all times during sessions and social functions. Transport will also be provided from The Bayview Hotel Guam to and from the Hyatt Regency Guam for the plenary sessions. 5

Travel and transport ARRIVAL Luggage tag Lapel label A. B. Won Pat International Airport is located in Tamuning and Barrigada, three miles east of the capital city of Hagåtña. Representatives will be assisted upon arrival at A. B. Won Pat International Airport and provided with transport to designated hotels. For easy identification upon arrival at the airport, representatives are requested to wear the lapel labels provided with this booklet. Luggage tags also have been provided. Representatives must send their arrival and departure details to the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific in order to have airport transport arranged. For representatives who do not notify WHO of their arrival time to be met at the airport, a taxi counter is located outside the arrival area of the airport terminal. In addition, several car rental and tour group counters are located near the baggage claim area. 6 for the Western Pacific, Guam, 2015

DEPARTURE Representatives will be provided with transport from designated hotels to the airport for scheduled departures. Upon reconfirmation of flights, travellers will be provided with a transport flier indicating pick-up arrangement to the airport. Spouse programme Information on the spouse programme, including visits to scenic spots, will be provided upon arrival in Guam. 2. Information on Guam, United States of America Entry requirements Guam is a territory of the USA and follows the USA immigration law. Representatives and other participants are required to have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry to Guam. Visas must be obtained unless travellers are citizens of a country under the Guam- CNMI Visa Waiver Program. Health regulations Yellow fever vaccination is required for visitors arriving from infected areas, except children under one year of age. Banking facilities Currently there are three domestic and three locally-incorporated foreign commercial banks operating with branches throughout the island. These institutions are the Bank of Guam, Bank Pacific, Citizens Security Bank and Citibank N.A., Bank of Hawaii and First Hawaiian Bank. International credit cards are accepted by the majority of tourist establishments. ATMs are available 24 hours a day at all banks, some shops and designated hotels. Most currencies can be exchanged with ease. Climate and clothing As in most tropical islands in the Western Pacific Region, the weather in Guam is warm throughout the year with less humidity November through March. The mean annual temperature near sea level is about 81 F (27 C) with monthly means ranging from 80 F (27 C) in January to 82 F (28 C) in June. Rarely does the temperature exceed 90 F (32 C) during the day or fall below 70 F (21 C) at night. The relative humidity averages between 73 81%, depending on the month. Guam s climate is characterized by two distinct seasons: a dry season from January to May and a rainy season from July to November. June and December are transitional months. Participants are encouraged to adopt the no tie/island casual dress code for the entire session of the Regional Committee. 10 for the Western Pacific, Guam, 2015

Currency and exchange rate As a territory of the USA, Guam uses US currency. Denominations include: Coins: 1 cent (penny), 5 cents (nickel), 10 cents (dime), 25 cents (quarter), 50 cents (half dollar) and a dollar coin with several varieties. B Bank notes: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars Electricity and water The standard power supply in Guam is 120 volts/60 cycles with standard plug outlets of the USA. Water is chlorinated and safe to drink. Languages English and Chamorro are the official languages of Guam. Local time Local time is 10 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Transportation is available to selected areas by bus route. Transportation on the line includes most major shopping centres as well as the hotels in Tumon and Hagåtña. Regulated metered taxis are available at all hotels and major shopping centres. The standard flag rate is US$ 2.40, US$ 4.00 for the first mile and US$ 0.80 every quarter mile thereafter. Safety Visitors should take reasonable security precautions to guard against theft or fraudulent practices, such as spurious requests for financial assistance or bad-faith offers of goods and services, including currency exchange. Prudence and sound judgment should guide your actions at all times, whether in the hotel, on the street, in a taxi or simply talking on the telephone. In case of police, fire or medical emergency, dial 911 from any telephone at any time. Smoke-free policy WHO has a no-smoking policy for all WHO meetings and related functions. 14 for the Western Pacific, Guam, 2015

Shopping and entertainment Tumon is the centre of shopping in Guam, with numerous boutiques including T Galleria by DFS, The Plaza along the Pleasure Island strip and the Tumon Sands Plaza. Beyond Tumon, Guam has three large malls: The Agana Shopping Center in Hagåtña, Guam Premier Outlets in Tamuning and Micronesia Mall in Dededo. All malls are less than 15 minutes driving from the Hyatt Regency Guam. Tipping In Guam, tipping service staff is customary, just as it is in the continental United States. Tipping from 10 15% is standard in restaurants and hotels and with taxi drivers. If a 10% service charge is added to the bill, additional tipping is optional. Telecommunications facilities The country code for Guam is (1) and area code is (671). International prepaid cards are available for sale at hotel front desks. Calls made using these phone cards are about 40% less expensive than operator-assisted calls. The international direct dialling (IDD) code for outgoing international calls is 001.
