The Indonesian seas form the largest component of the SE Asian "Mega- Archipelago, a unique marine environment of central importance to the larger scale ocean & climate systems. Do we properly understand and model this complex environment? Pacific Indian Walker Circulation Convective action ITF Warm pool Shifts of the sea surface temperature [SST] in the tropical Pacific Ocean- the warm pool and atm convective region: ENSO [El Niño Southern Oscillation] is a major climate perturbation.
We need to do a more complete job of measuring the Inflow. Luzon Strait 1. Mindanao and Halmahera Eddies [wave?] as required to understand the nature of the NECC and ITF and associated relevance to the warm pool and Indonesian sea. 2. Research grant 2. Center of Excellence fund 3. Scholarship 4. Intermediary institution support OUTPUT 1 ADVICES, ISSUES AND PROBLEM
REVIEW OF JI S&T COOP 1. During period of 80 and 90 (before the economy crisis) Ministry of Research and Technology (MoRT) sent big number of people from research center or industries study in Japan. However the number decrease significantly after the crisis because MoRT did not get financial support from government. 2. The number of technical assistance is also significantly big during 80 and 90. The establishment one of BPPT lab in Lampung got support from JICA 3. Joint research: institution to institution through gov support (JICA, NEDO, JSPS). Currently : JST-JICA program (SATREPS), E-Asia joint research program OUTPUT 1 ADVICES, ISSUES AND PROBLEM
