Volume 6 Number 0304 Wednesday 01 31 2018 Serving Oregon s Northern Wild Rivers Coast Local News ONLINE Crab Feed 2018 Courtesy P. Hewitt P.O. ROTARY CRAB FEED Port Orford Rotary started Saturday night off with a line of guests waiting for their portion of those fresh crustaceans! PORT OF PORT ORFORD Port crane received some maintenance prior to the upcoming crab season. Season is set to open soon in a few days, depending on results and weather. We should be seeing crab come over the dock just in time for Valentine s Day. Should all go well, fishermen will set crab pots (presoak) beginning on February 4th, with inspections beginning on February 6th, with a start date (first crab can be pulled) on February 7th. At this point, we cross our fingers and wait. DRAGONFLY / VALLEY FLORA Dragonfly Nursery is getting ready to open, and Valley Flora has been offering some mid-winter veggies. This event brought crab lovers from near and far, even Florence, Oregon! Apparently, everyone had a good time. Michael drove out to Valley Flora, but there was nothing left. Abby, was sweet, and offered him some less than lovely carrots and parsnips. Sweetest carrots ever! LUNAR ECLIPSE Please consider this my first SHOP LOCAL ad for 2018. Missed the rising moon, but enjoyed a beautiful rainbow circle around the moon from Brookings, with a lovely middle school student, who was quite knowledgeable about the event. Early this morning, I rose to check out the eclipse, which I really couldn t see through the trees, but the sky was particularly bright with stars. I think the most spectacular starry sky I have experienced on the Oregon coast. Once in a Blue Moon!
