PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY LAND, THREE COUNTRIES: EGYPT - JORDAN - ISRAEL AUGUST 8-24, 2018 ST. MARTIN OF TOURS PARISH 1.- ITINERARY DAY 1.- AUGUST 08: WASHINGTON CAIRO Beginning KLM flight to Cairo, via Paris. DAY 2.- AUGUST 09: CAIRO Arrival at Cairo International Airport. Visa procedures immigration and customs, with assistance of our Egyptian staff. Ride to hotel and lodging. DAY 3.- AUGUST 10: CAIRO At schedule time, 03H20, transfer to airport to board plane to Aswan. Arrival and visit Unfinished Obelisk and Aswan Dam. Transfer to ship. Lunch on board. In the afternoon, ride on the felucca, (old model boat), around Elephantine Island, where Agha Khan Mausoleum and Botanical Garden are located. Dinner on board. DAY 4.- AUGUST 11: ASWAN - KOM OMBO EDFU Navigation to Kom Ombo. Visit Temple of the god Sobek with crocodile s head, and Haroeris with the head of a Hawk. Navigation to Edfu. Night on board DAY 5.- AUGUST 12: EDFU - ESNA - LUXOR Visit Temple Edfu dedicated to the god Horus, built in third century BC, one of the most important of Ancient Egypt, which is still in good condition. Its dimensions are colossal, measuring 137 meters long by 79 meters wide and 36 meters high. Sailing to Esna Lock, and continuing to LUXOR. Visit Temples of Amun in Luxor, which is the largest temple of columns in the world, and Temples of Karnak, in the domains of Montú, Amón and Mut. Overnight on board. DAY 6.- AUGUST 13: LUXOR - TRAIN CAR BED - CAIRO Breakfast. Disembark and visit to Necropolis of Tebas, to see Valley of the Kings, one of the richest and most important archaeological sites in the world, with 450 tombs; temple of Queen Hatshepsut in Deir Baharí and Colossus of Memnon looking towards the Nile. Transfer to train station to leave to Cairo. Dinner and accommodation on board. DAY 7.- AUGUST 14: CAIRO Breakfast on train. Disembark and departure to visit the three Pyramids of Giza, the eternal Sphinx and Temple of Valley (does not include entrance to interior of the Pyramid), in the afternoon, visit Museum of Pharaonic Art and the Khan El Khalili Bazaar. DAY 8.- AUGUST 15: CAIRO - SINAI - SHARM EL SHEIKH ST. CATHERINE Breakfast on board, we descend from train to visit Cairo. We will visit Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, the Citadel of Saladin, Coptic Church of St. Sergius, where the Holy Family spent the night in their journey to Egypt. We will also see the old Ben Ezra Synagogue, to then say goodbye to this beautiful city and follow the route of the Hebrew People in their Exodus towards Promised Land, bordering Red Sea. Dinner and overnight in Sharm El Sheikh. Pilgrims who wish and can climb, we will go to Mount Sinai foot, place where people of Israel camped, whose ascent to the mountain on foot begins at 2 am. It's three hours of walking. Only with those who climb Mount Sinai, on the way down, wil be able to visit St. Catherine s Monastery, where Moises Burning Bush is located. (The only one in the world). Only this visit will be optional. Everyone will pay their entrance. The Monastery owes its name to this Saint, Cahterine, an alexandrian martyr who died in 395, and whose body according to tradition was transported by angels. Five centuries later it was discovered on the top of the mountain that bears her name. The Orthodox Monastery has an active life and its library has the oldest manuscripts in the world, after the Vatican. Return to hotel in Sharm El Sheikh for breakfast and rest (August 16) DAY 9.- AUGUS 16: SHARM EL SHEIKT Free day to rest and bathe in the most famous Egyptian beach. DAY 10.- AUGUST 17: SHARM EL SHEIK - TABA - EILATH PETRA Breakfast. After visiting Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Sharm El Sheik (a wonderful church open to all), we will continue through the Sinai desert bordering the beautiful Red Sea to Taba, border with Israel. Crossing border, brief transfer and panoramic view of Eilath City, continuing towards the border of Araba with Jordan. After border procedures, we will continue to Petra. Arrival, dinner and accommodation. DAY 11.- AUGUST 18: PETRA - MADABA - MOUNT NEBO AMMÁN Breakfast, departure to visit Petra, the ancient city of Nabateans dating from the third century BC. Walking tour through the gorge. Visit impressive monuments sculpted in pink rock, such as the treasure "The Khazne", tomb of a Nabatean king, the tombs, the obelisks and Madhbah altar. After lunch we will continue to Amman, visiting on the way Mount Nebo, the place where Moses saw promised land. Then we will visit Madaba, the ancient Byzantine city where we will see ancient mosaic of Holy Land map and the of historical places. We will continue to Amman, the capital of Jordan for a panoramic visit. Arrival in Amman, dinner and accommodation At indicated time, departure to Ben Gurion airport to take return flight.
