Fare Guide YRT/Viva Pay app and PRESTO
How do I pay on YRT and Viva routes? For YRT routes, customers pay when they board the bus. Viva is our rapid transit service that operates on a pre-paid, proof-of-payment system. Customers must purchase or validate their fares at the station prior to boarding. During your trip, YRT / Viva Enforcement may request to check your fare for proof of payment. Customers travelling without valid fare may be subject to a fine or criminal charge. TTC in York Region Customers travelling on TTC routes in York Region must pay YRT / Viva fare. Customers travelling on TTC south of the Toronto-York boundary ( Steeles Avenue ) must pay TTC fare. Paperless! As of July 1, 2017, YRT / Viva is a paperless system, which means no more paper tickets and passes. What are your options, other than cash? Note: Customers can still pay with exact cash fare. OR OR

What is YRT / Viva Pay? YRT / Viva Pay is a mobile fare payment app, available for free in the App Store and Google Play ( available July 1, 2017 ). The app allows customers to purchase YRT / Viva fares anywhere, anytime, through the convenience of their smartphones. How does it work? It s simple! Customers purchase and activate a ticket or monthly pass on their mobile device to travel immediately on YRT / Viva. Option 1: YRT / Viva Pay app
Using your mobile ticket / pass After purchasing your mobile ticket or pass, you must activate it before travelling. Fare activation takes one full minute, and must be completed before boarding the bus. Fares will then become active for two hours ( tickets ) or one month ( passes ). Your mobile device then becomes your proof of payment to ride YRT / Viva. YRT/Viva Pay helps you save When purchasing tickets on the app, you save at least 37 cents per trip versus paying cash, based on 2017 fares. Hop on and off with two-hour transfers After purchasing and activating a ticket, the app will commence a two-hour countdown to the expiry time. Travelling with a group? You can activate multiple tickets / passes to be used at the same time. Note: Drivers will not provide paper transfers, so group travel must be completed together. Customers travelling without valid fare may be subject to a fine or criminal charge. What is PRESTO? PRESTO is an electronic fare payment system for transit customers in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area ( GTHA ) and Ottawa. With PRESTO, you don t have to worry about buying tickets or having the correct change to ride. Your fare is automatically calculated and deducted from your PRESTO account with the tap of your card. PRESTO helps you save PRESTO card users pay YRT / Viva ticket prices, saving at least 37 cents per trip versus paying cash, based on 2017 fares.
Tap and ride with your PRESTO card For YRT routes and Mobility Plus Tap your card on the PRESTO device upon boarding. For Viva routes Tap your card on the PRESTO device at the vivastation or terminal prior to boarding. During your trip, YRT / Viva Enforcement staff may request to check your PRESTO card for proof of payment. Hop on and off with two-hour transfers Your YRT / Viva fare has a two-hour transfer window. This transfer is placed electronically on your card when you tap to pay your fare. PRESTO offers easy, paperless travel on YRT / Viva and accommodates transfers to other participating transit agencies. Note: Additional taps with your PRESTO card are not allowed within five minutes of each other. Loading your PRESTO card Customers can load a money value ( e-purse ) or monthly pass on their PRESTO card. This can be done online at prestocard.ca, in person at a YRT / Viva PRESTO event or at a YRT / Viva PRESTO agent location. YRT / Viva PRESTO events and agent locations can be found on yrt.ca. ATTENTION YOUTH, SENIOR OR CHILD FARE CUSTOMERS: IN ORDER TO PAY THESE FARES WITH YOUR PRESTO CARD, A CONCESSION MUST BE SET ON YOUR CARD. THIS CAN BE DONE AT A YRT / VIVA PRESTO EVENT OR AT SELECT YRT / VIVA PRESTO AGENT LOCATIONS.
