Westmoreland-Fayette Council SMOKE Signals Boy Scouts of America Special Cub Camp Edition 2016 Camp Buck Run Eberly Scout Reservation Join us for Dinosaurs at Camp Buck Run in 2016 Our mission is to offer a quality Cub Camping Program following the guidelines established for the the new Cub Scout Adventures. Our wish is to maximize the use of our facilities, staff, and program to ensure that the council can continue to offer a quality program in a quality facility with a great staff. Camp Buck Run is the Westmoreland Fayette Council camp for all Cub Scouts. It is located in Laurel Hill State Park near Somerset, PA. Camp Buck Run has shelters/tents to house the Cub Scouts and their leaders. Meals are served in Jackson Dining Hall. Showers and rest rooms with flush toilets are provided. Buck Run has a Sports and Parade Field, BB and Archery Ranges, and a Nature Pavilion. Swimming and Boating activities will be offered. The camp operates with a theme; in 2016 the theme will be Dinosaurs. Our program enables our Cub Scout packs to attend camp as a pack. Sessions will be available every week for new packs to attend. Program to be offered works off of the theme. The camp offers age-appropriate activities. Dens will be organized by Wolves, Bears, and Webelos so that age appropriate activities will be offered. Pack Cub Camping Coordinator Each Pack should appoint a member of the Pack Committee to be the Pack Cub Camping Coordinator. That person is to promote the Cub Resident Camping Program at Camp Buck Run. That person is responsible for attending the Camp Webinar, promoting Cub Resident Camp at Pack meetings and activities and for handling the Pack s registration for Camp Buck Run. Cub Camping Program Important Information & Dates If your pack did not reserve a space, the Pack needs to complete a 2016 Campsite Reservation form and pay a $25.00 site fee. January 11, 2016- Cub Resident Camping at Buck Run will be reviewed as part of the Camp Webinar to be broadcasted that evening. Watch for more information. March 4, 2016- Deposits for Camp are due. You must submit forms and deposits for the session you would like to have. The available space for each session will be on a first come first serve basis. May 6, 2016- Final Camp Buck Run fees are due. The Camp Director will be Kenneth Bartlett from Altoona, PA, who will be serving his first year as Camp Director. May 7, 2016 Spring Nature Walk- Nature activities for all Cub Scouts. There will also be an orientation for all Cub Scout leaders at 9:00am.
Join us for Dinosaurs at Camp Buck Run in 2016 We will operate all camping opportunities from our Camp Buck Run facility over a five week season. Cub Weekend Camp: 2 days and 2 nights starting on Friday night ending on Sunday evening after Closing Campfire. This camp is for the new Cub Scout and his parent attending Camp for the first time. The purpose is to get acquainted with the Cub Scout Camping program. Fee: $100.00-Cub Scout, $50.00-Parent Cub Scout Camp for Wolves and Bears: 4 days and 4 nights starting on Friday night and ending on Tuesday evening after Closing Campfire. Wolves and Bears attend this Camp with their pack leadership. Fee: $170.00-Cub Scout, $150.00 for Leaders over the free amount. Webelos Camp for Webelos (I and II s) and Arrow of Light: 5 days and 5 nights starting on Friday night and ending on Wednesday evening after Closing Campfire. Webelos attend this Camp with their pack leadership. Fee: $215.00-Webelos Scout, $150.00 for Leaders over the free amount. Camp Schedule 2016 Camp Buck Run Session #1: June 17-22 Camp Buck Run Session #2: June 24-29 Camp Buck Run Session #3: July 1-6 Camp Buck Run Session #4: July 8-13 Camp Buck Run Session #5: July 15-20 Camp Buck Run Session #6: July 22-27 How to Sign Up for Cub Camp Each family in the pack should let the Pack Camping Representative know which camp they are interested in and give them the deposits for the camps to be turned in by March 4, 2016. Deposit is $50.00 and is non- refundable. Balance is due by May 6, 2016. There will be a $15.00 late fee if paid after this date. Family Discount for Cub Scouts Attending Camp Buck Run: A. Fee for Second Cub Scout or more attending Camps at Camp Buck Run is 15% less. B. The discount also applies to a Cub Scout if there is an older brother who is going to Boy Scout Camp at Camp Conestoga. Ratio of Leaders to Boys: 1 15 boys = 2 Leaders free per pack 16 25 boys = 3 Leaders free per pack 26 + boys = 4 Leaders free per pack CAMPERSHIP GUIDELINES CAMP BUCK RUN: The Campership Program is designed to aid, but not support, Scouts who would not be able to attend camp without financial assistance. Campership applications are available at the Council Service Center. All parts of the application must be completed and turned in by April 11, 2016 in order to be eligible for a Campership. Incomplete applications will not be processed. REFUND POLICY Deposit fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Any fees paid over and above non- refundable deposits may be refunded only under the following conditions: Youth is approved for a campership after payments are received. Youth cannot attend camp due to physician s recommendation concerning illness or injury. Cancellation is required at least 48 hours prior to the event by phone or mail the Camp Director. All refund requests must be submitted in writing within 30 days of the event. All refund requests received later than 30 days after the event will be denied. Refunds will be distributed to the unit. Health Lodge Qualified personnel staff our Health Lodge in order to provide immediate First Aid. If medication of any kind is to be taken at camp you should send it with your son s leader. Please fill out and send the Camp Buck Run Medication Record with your scout s medicine. Ethan is a Cub Scout who will guide Scouts through each rank in the new Cub Scout program. He ll appear in each adventure in their new handbooks, and he will always be a year older and one rank ahead of the Scouts. As Cub Scouts learn a new skill, they ll look to Ethan for encouragement, helpful tips, funny stories, and even some mistakes he s made (and learned from) along the way. Westmoreland-Fayette Day Camps Cub Scout Day Camps are organized by our Districts and are three day programs for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Day Camp does not include overnight activities, but is conducted during the day and evening hours. Day Camps are based on themes and include fun activities in nature, shooting sports, games, and crafts. Day Camps are lots of fun! Don t let your son miss out on all the fun and excitement that Day Camp has to offer. Westmoreland-Fayette Day Camps The Day Camp Campership Program is designed to aid, but not support Cub Scouts who would not be able to attend Day Camp without financial assistance. The Council will award $25.00 Camperships to Cub Scouts who qualify for assistance. Cub Scout Families that need financial assistance and those families with more than one Cub Scout attending Day Camp are the targets for support of the Campership Fund. We can award up to Sixty Campership Grants for the 2016 Day Camp sessions. The awards will be dependent upon the income guidelines for eligibility, and family circumstances. The Council Campership Committee will consider your request on an individual basis. We just need one form per family. A letter of notification will be sent to you. Money will be applied to your Day Camp fees. The application must be completed and turned in April 11, 2016 in order to be eligible for a Campership. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
