Programme The 14th BioDundee International Conference is part of the Scottish Cities Alliance s Global Excellence programme. Showcasing some of Scotland s key sectors in each of our cities. Dundee will focus on the strength of Life Sciences and showcase the excellence whilst discussing and debating some of the opportunities and challenges the sector faces as it continues to grow and add value to Scotland both in terms of wealth and health. The conference programme has taken some of the key themes from Scotland s life sciences strategy which were identified as offering significant opportunities going forward. These emerging opportunities are broad themes comprising many different markets and technologies. We explore them further and hear from those working in these fields how they are developing and the issues they face. DAY 1: TUESDAY 20 th MAY 2014 Event: Conference Programme/Company Showcase/Exhibition Time: 8.30am Registration for 9.00am start. Finish 5.00pm Venue: West Park Conference Centre Theme 1 Assisted Living This offers important opportunities in telehealth with the growth of applications for remote diagnosis, treatment and management of chronically ill and elderly patients. It includes aids to mobility, rehabilitation, patient monitoring and management to enhance independent life styles. Theme 2 Stratified Medicine Stratified medicine is about getting the right treatment, to the right patient and at the right time and cost. Prescient investment in electronic health records and translational medical research, coupled with a vibrant healthcare technology industry, positions Scotland as a key global location for its research and application. This session will review the current developments such as leading edge innovation centre - Stratified Medicine Scotland and the benefits of precision medicine to both industry and the patients. Theme 3 Wellbeing This is creating new markets in nutraceuticals, food additives beneficial to maintaining health and preventing disease. It includes plant, animal and nutritional sciences aimed at promoting health benefits in our food and drink.

COCKTAIL RECEPTION & GALA DINNER Event: Cocktail Reception and Gala Dinner Master of Ceremonies: John Beattie, ex Scottish International Rugby player and presenter of the lunchtime news programme on BBC Radio Scotland. After Dinner speaker: Richard Whitehead, Gold medal Para-Olympian Time: 6.45 Reception, 7.30 Call to Dinner Venue: Invercarse Hotel, Perth Road, Dundee DD2 1PG DAY 2: WEDNESDAY 21 st MAY 2014 Theme 4 Finance The 2nd day of this event explores the always topical issue of Finance, from investor input to research funding and new funding models. Without finance the sector and the benefits it brings, not only to Scotland but worldwide, in terms of improved health and wealth will not happen. This morning s speakers explore some of the hot topics and good practices within the financing of life sciences. Company Showcase Over the course of both days of the conference there will be opportunities to participate in company showcases. These short pitches by innovative companies and organisations will showcase some of the excellent life science activity taking place across Scotland and the UK. Commonwealth Keynote Address This keynote talk will feature the truly inspirational example of Mary s Meals. Mary s Meals began in 2002 as a one-off school feeding programme. Today they provide daily life changing meals to over 868,000 hungry children. This not to be missed presentation will ensure you leave the conference inspired.
