1. Tourism sector in the Region of Valencia: highlights 2015 Tourism sector The Region of Valencia welcomed 23 million tourists in 2015 (more than 156 million of overnights in 2015) Third tourist destination for spanish (16,3 million) and the fifth for foreigners (6,5 million) Tourism enterprises: (2015): 957 hotels, 123 camping, 38.319 appartaments, 1.094 rural houses, 1.268 travel agencies, 14.477 restaurants, 35 golf courses, etc. Economic impact of tourism Contribution to GDP: 13,2% Employment generation: 14,4 % Contribution to investment: 6,8 % Contribution to public spending: 7,2 % Taxes contribution: 13,3 %

Public policy, governance and tourism organisation in the Region of Valencia Overall data type of organisation About Agència Valenciana del Turisme (Valencia Region Tourist Board): - Public company attached to the Regional Ministry of Tourism of the Region of Valencia. - One of its roles is to promote Research, Development and Innovation among tourist destinations and companies in the Region of Valencia, in Spain. About INVAT.TUR (Valencian Institute of Tourism Technologies): - The branch of Agència Valenciana del Turisme specialised in the generation and transfer of tourist knowledge, through the development of R+D+i projects and adaptation to new trends in all aspects of the tourist market. - Is led by a multidisciplinary team comprising professionals who are experts in the fields of marketing, planning, new technologies, innovation, internet and social media, project development and research in the tourist sector.

INVAT.TUR, in close collaboration and co-operation with the tourism sector, develops activities and projects in six areas to achieve the following strategic goals: To generate and transfer knowledge in the tourism sector throughout Research, Development and Innovation activities (R+D+I). To develop R+D+I activities tailored to the needs of the industry. To foster innovation culture as a tool to improve competitiveness in tourist companies. To develop an useful market intelligence area aimed to facilitate strategic promotion and marketing decisions in the destination management process. To encourage collaboration between public and private institutions in actions of R+D+I. To facilitate access to knowledge, to anticipate and to adapt Valencian tourist offer to the new market trends.

Technical advisory board Invat.tur Technical Advisory Council was established as an advisory body and open character, whose primary mission lies in advising the center in the direction of its activity, in order to ensure that it is confined to the demands of the sector and the evolution of tourism. This council consists of a representation of renowned experts professionals who work in major companies, associations, organizations and institutions in the tourism sector in the region of Valencia.
