OUTDOOR EDUCATOR 1. MISSION STATEMENT AND PURPOSE: Crusaders is a Bible-based, interdenminatinal Christian Yuth Organisatin whse missin is t help the students f the independent schls f Australia t knw and fllw Jesus. We seek t expse students t the gspel, win them t Christ, disciple them in their faith and train them fr a lifetime f service. We wrk twards this purpse using fur cre strategies: Summit Camps, which runs fully-prgrammed camps fr schl grups during term times; Cru Hliday Camps, which runs camps fr schl students during schl hlidays; Schls ministry team, wh encurage and supprt Christian grups in independent schls; and The peratin f Cnference and Recreatin Centres at Galstn and Lake Macquarie, where students and campers can enjy a fantastic camp experience while, at the same time, grwing in their faith. Similarly, we pray that each emplyee will grw in their relatinship with Gd and will develp new skills and abilities t serve Him. Our staff are cmmitted Christians wh lk t wrk tgether as a team t build each ther up, nt just t be prductive wrkers, but t be peple wh will grw in their lve and knwledge f Gd. 2. SUMMIT CAMPS: Summit is a divisin within Crusaders that has been running quality schl camps since 1988, predminantly t independent schls. The ultimate purpse f these camps is t facilitate faith develpment in children s that they are given the pprtunity t recgnise Jesus Christ as the Sn f Gd and t live with Him as their Lrd and Saviur, within the cntext f educatinally excellent schl camps. Strategically, Summit als aims t link campers int either a hliday camp r their Crusader grup at schl. As well as Summit s ministry t campers, a secnd ministry gal is aimed twards the teachers n camp. By running all aspects f the camp prgram, Summit allws teachers t cncentrate n building rapprt with their students. Thirdly, Summit als aims t develp ur trainees wh cme thrugh the fellwship prgram. During their time in Summit, Fellws are encuraged in their walk in Christ, and equipped fr ministry at Crusaders and beynd. Since 2003, Summit s full-time team has dubled in size. This has brught in increased camping, administrative and pastral lad t Summit s staff. Therefre, ur Outdr Educatrs are increasingly necessary fr the effective planning f Summit camps, the cntinuing f prvisin f high quality camp prgrams, and the management and develpment f this grwing team. The Summit divisin f Crusaders perates ut f the Crusaders Galstn ffice. Crusaders als perates tw campsite prperties: Galstn Grge Cnference and Recreatin Centre in Sydney's uter nrth-west, and Lake Macquarie Outdr Recreatin Centre, near Newcastle; the majrity f Summit s camping wrk is carried ut at ne f these tw campsites. POSITION DESCRIPTION: a) Interacts with: The Outdr Educatin C-rdinatr, the Directr f Summit and ther Outdr Educatrs mst clsely. Outdr Educatrs wrk with the rest f the Senir Summit Team in running ur prgrams and guiding ur large staff. b) General Senir Summit Team Accuntabilities: The Senir Summit Team cnsists f the Summit Directr, Outdr Educatin C-rdinatr, Curriculum C-rdinatr, Staffing C-rdinatr, Outdr Educatrs, Prgram C-rdinatrs and Outdr Ministers. Whilst the Summit Directr has verall respnsibility, the Senir Summit Team wrks cllectively with shared respnsibility t ensure the efficient peratin f Summit s camping prgram, recgnising the diverse skills needed in running an educatinally exceptinal Christian camping prgram. Given the nature f camping ministry, it is recgnised that these psitins invlve wrk that is nt always during regular hurs, but invlves night prgrams, primarily during weeknights f particular weeks f the schl term. The frequency f invlvement in night prgrams varies depending the individual s camping lad; and such after hurs wrk is cmpensated fr thrugh Crusaders Days in Lieu plicy. Occasinally, the Summit Directr may require members f the Senir Summit Team t take respnsibility fr areas utside their nrmal area f peratin. Any member Senir Summit may be required t serve as Acting Summit Directr in the Directr s absence. Outdr Educatr PD 13 Page 3 f 8 initial

c) Specific Outdr Educatr Accuntabilities: The Outdr Educatr is primarily invlved in the planning and running f prgrams fr Summit schl camps, in rder t best supprt Crusaders missin in reaching peple fr the Gspel f Jesus. The 4 main areas will include: Making final preparatins fr camp (such as allcating leaders t parts f the prgram, writing Christian talks and discussin grup pages, etc); Directing Summit Educatinal Camps (which invlves liaising with teachers, managing a team f camp leaders, delivering Christian talks, running utdr activities, etc); Leading n Summit Camps (invlving running activities, running a discussin grup, etc); Mnitring the quality f ur prgrams (bth n camp, and as a part f a pst-camp wrap up). As well as the abve, a significant prtin f the Outdr Educatr s time will be engaged in tasks nt directly related t the running f an individual camp but, rather, necessary fr the wider running and develpment f Summit and Crusaders. This will invlve: Prviding guidance, mentring and training fr ur staff in training rles; Reviewing and develping resurces fr ur camping prgrams; Being a directr, speaker r leader n Crusader Hliday Camps. Other tasks which will take up varying amunts f the Outdr Educatr s time are writing and attending staff Bible studies and prayer times, attending training curses and/r cnferences, attending Senir Summit meetings, and the prductin f reprts. The Outdr Educatr will endeavur t meet r exceed ur teachers expectatins at each mment f truth. A mment f truth ccurs when a client cmes int cntact with Crusaders in any way, - e.g. face t face, eating a meal, n the phne, during an activity, via email, etc. A negative mment f truth, n matter hw small, may be ur last chance t serve a guest. The psitin is critical fr ensuring ur teachers and students thrughly enjy their camping experience with the hpe that they will becme returning custmers year after year s that we can serve them effectively. As a key member f the senir Summit team, cnsiderable flexibility is required s that duties utside thse nrmally perfrmed are carried ut when the circumstances dictate. Likewise, due t the nature f camping, the Outdr Educatr shuld be prepared t wrk utside f regular ffice hurs. Additinally, the rle is a key part f Crusaders ministry and as such must be exercised in a way which demnstrates a cmmitment t evangelism and effective pastral care fr bth staff and guests (teachers and students). A leadership capacity must be demnstrated in the preparatin, delivery and participatin in staff Bible studies and devtins. Flexibility, a servant heart and a pastral fcus are essential requirements f the Outdr Educatr: Flexibility: t respnd with enthusiasm t changing needs as priritised by the Directr f Summit; Servant heart: t be willing t d whatever is necessary and nt feel that sme jbs are beneath them ; Pastral fcus: t initiate, develp and maintain excellent client and public relatins t maximise their enjyment f their Crusader experience s that they experience the best pprtunity t learn abut Jesus r t grw in their faith; and t seek t encurage Summit s junir staff in their Spiritual grwth. d) Typical Duties include but are nt limited t: Attending apprximately 25 Summit camps during the year (the exact number t be determined by the Directr f Summit, based n the administrative demands f the psitin); Preparing fr and directing the majrity f Summit camps attended; Delivering the Christian talks n the majrity f the Summit camps attended; Prviding leadership and directin t the Summit camp team, which may include full time and casual staff; Liaising with campsites during the running f a prgram; Clse liaising with schl staff thrughut camp; Running games and utdr activities n camp; Ensuring the safety f campers and staff by prgramming and running camps in line with Crusaders Standard Operating Prcedures fr all activities; Liaising with the Prgram C-rdinatrs after camp, t design the fllwing year s prgram, t meet the schl s camping requirements; Assisting Fellws as each f them directs and speaks n ne Summit camp per year; Attending f a number f Summit camps as a member f the camp team, nt just as the directr f the camp; Preparing and participating in staff Bible studies, devtins and thelgical training; Participating in Senir Summit team and ther staff meetings; Participating in training curses as directed, including thelgical study, utdr recreatin training and ministry skills develpment; Assisting the Directr f Summit with the training, develpment and pastral care f Summit staff; Meeting persnal perfrmance gals, and ensuring that Summit s junir staff are similarly meeting persnal perfrmance gals. e) Other duties include: Develping and maintaining resurces required fr the running f the Summit divisin; Submitting written reprts t the Summit Directr, as requested; Being a part f the leadership team n ne r tw Crusader Hliday camps; General Crusader duties as directed by the Executive Directr r his appinted prxy, which culd include duties within ther divisins. 5. ESSENTIAL POSITION CRITERIA The fllwing qualities are seen as being necessary fr this psitin: Mature and cnsistent Christian faith with active invlvement in a Christian church, with sund Biblical teaching (as evidence f cmmitment t Christian ministry and service); A full agreement with Crusaders Statement f Belief ; Interest and experience in wrking with students frm schl years K 12; Outdr Educatr PD 13 Page 5 f 8 initial

A cmmitment t and belief in the value f camping fr prviding a psitive envirnment fr evangelism; Experience in preparing and presenting Christian talks and studies; Experience in facilitating small grup discussins; Skills and experience in running games fr grups f varius sizes; Gd utdr and/r sprting skills; A desire t wrk clsely with schl staff in implementing prgrams; Ability t wrk independently and within a team; Ability t lead a team f up t 20 ther leaders; A cmmitment t pastring and develping a team f leaders twards the gal f delivering the Gspel thrugh relatinal, educatinal camping; Excellent verbal and written cmmunicatin skills; Excellent persnal presentatin; A strng eye fr detail, cupled with energy and cmmitment; Flexibility and willingness t d whatever tasks are required (within the bunds f their skills/abilities); Ability and willingness t wrk irregular hurs as necessary; Apprpriate health and fitness t carry ut all duties in a safe and efficient manner; Friendly, apprachable and plite demeanur; Strng rganisatinal skills and efficiency, and the ability t priritise; Gd phne manner and cstumer fcus; Cmputer literacy, particularly in Wrd and PwerPint ; A current driver s license; Ability t apply Christian faith and principles in all areas f wrk respnsibilities; Strng Bible knwledge and a clear understanding f the Bible's applicatin t the day-t-day lives f the students. 6. DESIRABLE POSITION CRITERIA These criteria are desirable, but nt essential: Previus experience in a similar rle within the educatin r hspitality/turism industries; Qualificatins in educatin, utdr recreatin, thelgy r hspitality management; Cmpetency and/r experience in activities such as sailing, caneing, rck climbing, abseiling, high rpes, lw rpes, bushwalking, archery, etc.; 1 st Aid training and/r Brnze Medallin. 7. PROHIBITIONS. Prhibited persns under applicable Child Prtectin legislatin are ineligible fr this psitin. Cntinuing t meet these requirements will be essential fr cntinued emplyment. 8. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS a) Lcatin: Primarily in the Summit ffice, Galstn Grge. Secndarily at Crusaders Galstn and Lake Macquarie campsites, r ther campsites. b) Status: Permanent, Full Time c) Award Prvisins: This psitin is nt cnsidered t be cvered by an award and has an attractive negtiated salary. Cnditins are in accrdance with the relevant legislatin and with emplyment plicies and prcedures f the Crusader Unin f Australia as issued frm time t time. d) Hurs f wrk: The nrmal ffice wrking hurs are 38 hurs per week averaged ver a full year perid, except fr emergency situatins where staff may need t wrk additinal unplanned hurs t deal with the particular situatin. A typical shift wuld be 8.30am t 5pm with between thirty minutes and an hur available fr lunch. Mst senir Crusader emplyees will chse t take cnsiderably less than ne hur fr lunch during peak activity perids. Flexibility is an imprtant aspect f the psitin and it is essential that a persn in a senir psitin always demnstrates a psitive attitude t this. Given the fully-prgrammed nature f Summit s camps (that is, ur staff run the prgram frm befre breakfast until bed time), it shuld be expected that wrk hurs will extend t sme nights f the week during camping seasn and, ccasinally, weekends. Time in lieu f additinal hurs wrked and wrk dne n public hlidays will be accrued accrding t Crusaders Days in Lieu plicy. e) Persnal leave and ther entitlements: All permanent Crusader emplyees are cvered by relevant legislatin and Crusaders has in place persnal/carer s leave entitlements which meet r exceed this legislatin. 4 weeks annual leave is given per year and is calculated n a pr rata basis. f) Term and ntice: As a permanent psitin, there is n set term, hwever we ask fr a three-year cmmitment. Tw mnths ntice f resignatin is required in writing. g) Remuneratin: It is envisaged that a full-time package f $40,500 t $52,800 will be ffered, depending n qualificatins and experience. This package includes superannuatin. As this psitin will require a cnsiderable amunt f business travel, either a fully maintained mtr vehicle will be prvided (at a cst t the emplyee f $3,300 per annum t allw fr persnal use) r a mtr vehicle allwance f $7,200 (befre tax) will be prvided t cver the use f the emplyee's car n cmpany business. As a Religius Practitiner, yu may be able t take up t 45% f yur package as a tax exempt Ministry Expense Accunt. Accmmdatin and bard wuld be prvided while n camps. Summit staff are nt charged tuitin r training fees fr training given during their tenure. Csts invlved in apprved training curses and apprved ut-f-pcket expenses will be reimbursed.
