Qrnngres.s nf tlfe llnifeb ~fafe.s l\da.al7ington, i@ 20515 December 9, 2013 The Honorable Anthony Foxx, Secretary U.S. Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey A venue, SE Washington, DC 20590 The Honorable Michael P. Huerta, Administrator U.S. Department oftransportation Federal Aviation Administration 800 Independence Avenue, SW Washington, DC 20591 Dear Secretary Foxx and Administrator Huerta: We are writing to request that you allow Republic Airlines, through its sister company Shuttle America, to maintain its nonstop air service from Eppley Airfield in Omaha, NE to Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC. Without Shuttle America acquiring this route, Omaha will lose one of its two direct flights to Washington. Republic Airlines currently operates direct service from Eppley Airfield to DCA under an agreement with Frontier Airlines. Although the aircraft flying this popular service are consistently full, Frontier will terminate its agreement with Republic and cease service to DCA in February 2014. Also, Omaha currently does not have nonstop service from other Washington, DC airports like Dulles International or Baltimore Washington International. The current Republic DCA service is one of two competitive direct service slots between Omaha and Washington, DC and is a critical link to the nation's capital for our constituents. This flight is of great importance to both the military and business. High-ranking officers from both STRA TCOM and Eppley need to get to the Pentagon in a timely fashion. Given the high demand from business customers as well as the general public, it is important to maintain the two flight options. According to a recent study by the Massachusetts Institute oftechnology (MIT) medium-hub airports have experienced the largest decrease (26.2%) in departures over the last six years compared with both small and large hubs. Departures from Omaha decreased by almost 19 percent during this time period and available seats saw a 14 percent reduction. s 10-131216-007 PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
In light of the recent reductions, we respectfully request that the Department allow the DCA slots currently operated by Republic Airlines under the agreement with Frontier Airlines to be used by Shuttle America under Delta Connection to maintain this vital service to the nation's capital for Omaha. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We look forward to your quick response.
