Marketing Strategy Group Report Report from the Marketing Strategy Group to the Business Development Board 28 th February 2017 and LEP Board 3 rd March 2017 1. Summary 1.1. This report informs the Business Development Board and LEP Board about the successful Parliamentary Reception organised by the LEP Marketing Strategy Group and outlines a plan for follow up activity. 2. Parliamentary Reception, 31 st January 2017 2.1. The Marketing Strategy Group identified the organisation of a Westminster event as a priority in its funding request to the Board in November 2016. A budget of 5,000 was allocated to the activity from LEP reserves. 2.2. The aim of the event was to bring together political leaders and investors from the Humber region with thought leaders from across the Northern Powerhouse and Government to celebrate the Humber s success to date and to explore the Humber s contribution to the UK s future economic growth. 2.3. The event was organised in partnership by the Humber LEP, Bondholders, the Chamber of Commerce, THMA and members of the Marketing Strategy Group. 3. Responses to the Event 3.1. The event was attended by 70 people, including senior business leaders from the region and decision makers from across the Northern Powerhouse and Westminster. A full attendance list is included at Appendix 2. 3.2. Four Government Ministers attended the event: Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Nick Hurd MP, Minister of State for Climate Change and Industry Andrew Percy MP, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse Lord Price of Brampton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, BEIS 3.3. Mr Clark spoke at the event, noting that There is huge enthusiasm for what more can be done in the future. He said, I am a huge fan of the Humber, I am regularly invited by my colleagues and I will come back. To be showing off your wares to colleagues here in Parliament is a fantastic thing to do,
there cannot be many of my colleagues in the Chamber unaware of brilliant success of Hull and Humber. To have you here, to meet them and introduce them to what you are doing, is to be applauded. 3.4. The event received an overwhelmingly positive response in the local press and on social media and was mentioned in House of Commons debates. See Appendix 1 for examples of coverage. 4. Financial Report 4.1. The direct cost to the Humber LEP for the event was within the 5,000 budget allocated by the LEP Board. The budget was spent as follows: Item Cost AV 506 Room hire 900 Catering 1,733 Filming cost for additions to Humber video 1,750 Total 4,889 4.2. The event was made possible through considerable partner contributions of time and resources from Bondholders, Garthwest and VISR-VR for which there was no cost to the LEP. 4.3. Bondholders contributed staff time, marketing material and media support to the value of 3,809 + VAT broken down as follows: Resource totalling 70 hours of staff time dedicated to production of marketing material, media briefings and administrative support= Total: 1,242.00 Cost of artwork and print for press pack: 1,700.00 Day rate for photography: 495.00 Travel and expenditure for media support (excludes Bondholder travel/expenses): 372.00 4.4. Garthwest provided design services and printed invitations and promotional display stands for the event to the value of 3,350.00 + VAT broken down as follows: Design, 3D and graphic, services to create promotional materials for the event, 24 design hours, Print and production: 2,760.00 Invitation to the Reception, Graphic design and layout, Materials, print and production: 590.00
4.5. VISR-VR provided cardboard VR headsets for delegates and created a Humber estuary VR experience which was demonstrated to delegates during the event, to the value of 6,850.00 broken down as follows: 5. Next Steps 100 x branded headsets production (These costs covered for VISR by Garthwest): 1,400.00 VR experience coding and creation The Energy Estuary : 5,000 Team travels costs and demonstration costs : 450.00 5.1. The Humber LEP and Bondholders have contacted all attendees by email to thank them for their support and outline opportunities for future engagement. The follow up email highlights key events during Humber Business Week as an early opportunity for engagement. Delegates were also invited to share their views on future activities to promote the Humber region. 5.2. The Marketing Strategy Group will develop a proposal for follow up events and activities to build on the momentum generated by the successful Westminster event. Options include organising a dinner or reception for offshore wind investors at the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 conference in London on 6-8 June and running an investor-focused event in London towards the end of 2017.
