The crew will assign cabins and serve lunch, followed by an introductory briefing. Interpretation Centre and Cerro Tijeretas (San Cristóbal Island) In the afternoon, we disembark at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (dry landing) and visit the Interpretation Centre. From the Interpretation Centre, we stroll along an easy boardwalk to the site considered as the spot where Darwin set foot for first time on Galápagos in 1835. This area is teeming with life: Darwin finches, San Cristóbal mockingbirds, marine iguanas, sea lions, etc. SATURDAY Cerro Brujo (San Cristóbal Island) We land at Cerro Brujo s white coralline beach, a large expanse, great for walking, with rewarding bird watching. Highlights ashore include the (San Cristóbal) mockingbird, java lizard; both species are endemic to this island, and seen nowhere else in the Galápagos. The beach makes an excellent site for acquainting oneself with snorkelling gear and techniques. Punta Pitt (San Cristóbal Island) In the afternoon, we disembark on the eastern tip of the island at Pitt Point, an eroded tuff cone, whose trail provides spectacular views of the shoreline. This is the only site in the Galápagos where the three species of boobies can be found together. After the walk, if conditions are favourable, we have a chance to swim from the beach or snorkel at the nearby islets. SUNDAY Santa Fe Island After breakfast, we take the dinghy over to this idyllic sandy-white beach populated by many sea lion harems. The endemic land iguana, unique to this island, may be spotted during the morning walk amid the giant prickly pear cactus. Snorkelling and swimming from the pangas rounds off our rewarding experience, or if guests prefer, the glass bottom boat is available for non-snorkellers. Itinerary is a guide only. Our route and programme varies according to National Park policies and regulations, weather conditions, seasonal changes, safety reasons and the wildlife we encounter. Aquatic activities: Snorkel Panga Ride Glass-bottom boat South Plaza Island Following lunch and a rest, we disembark in this channel, whose turquoise waters contrast brilliantly with the white sand and black lava of the shoreline. Beyond, a carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents serves as groundcover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus. Yellow-grey land iguanas sit beneath these, waiting patiently for pears to drop. Along the coastline one finds sea lion colonies, while frigates, swallow-tailed gulls and shearwaters glide, play with the thermals. 14 15

MONDAY Highlands of Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Island) This morning we head to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, with their impressive Scalesia forest and the twin pit craters known as Los Gemelos. A visit to see the giant tortoises in the wild may be included, if weather conditions are good. We enjoy lunch in the highlands, before beginning our afternoon activities. Puerto Ayora and activities (Santa Cruz Island) We have several options available for the afternoon: 1. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station in Puerto Ayora and the giant tortoise pens, including tortoise celebrities like Lonesome George. 2. Trek along forest paths in the highlands to a viewpoint. 3. Mountain bike (mostly downhill) to the Garrapatero Beach. 4. Sea kayak and relax on a sandy beach. 5. Visit an organic coffee plantation 6. Scuba dive. This activity takes all day and has a cost. At the end of the afternoon s activities, we embark on the M/V Santa Cruz from the Puerto Ayora dock. TUESDAY Punta Suárez (Española (Hood) Island) An exciting walk awaits at this site, where we ll enjoy its unique sea bird colonies, including waved albatrosses (April-December), Nazca boobies, blue-footed boobies, swallow-tail gulls as well as a view of the Galápagos famous blow-hole. Also, look for red-green-black marine iguanas. Back on board for lunch. Gardner Bay (Española Island) In the afternoon, the picture-postcard white coral beach of Gardner Bay provides a beautiful setting for observing sea lions, mockingbirds, finches as we relax. There is great snorkelling in this area, or a ride aboard the glass-bottom boat. WEDNESDAY Baltra Island On our last day, we disembark at Baltra Island and transfer to the airport to take the flight back to the continent. 16 17

Baltra Island We arrive by plane at Baltra Island and transfer to the dock to board the M/V Santa Cruz where we ll receive our welcome introductory briefing and lunch. North Seymour Island This is a great introductory site to the islands and their wildlife, full of bird colonies of blue footed boobies, two species of frigate birds, swallow tailed gulls, as well as sea lions and marine iguanas. THURSDAY Punta Vicente Roca (Isabela Island) After breakfast, we explore the coast by panga, while our naturalist guide explains the dramatic geology of the area, nesting place for a Galápagos highlight: flightless cormorants. Depending on weather conditions, we can snorkel along the cliffs of this area rich in marine life, seasonally-visited by green sea turtles and oceanic sun fish (Mola mola). Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island) The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the youngest island of the archipelago, Fernandina, which, having no introduced mammals, boasts a very unique environment with a very high density of marine iguanas, who share their space with sea lions, Sally light-foot crabs, hawks, penguins and the flightless cormorant. Following our walk, weather permitting, we can go snorkelling. FRIDAY Tagus Cove (Isabela Island) After breakfast, we ll land at this cove on the northwest of Isabela. It provided a favourite anchorage for pirates and whalers over the centuries. An uphill hike takes guests to the rim of Darwin Crater, filled with salt water and to a dramatic viewpoint. After our walk, we take a panga ride to spot local wildlife, with the possibility of swimming or snorkelling. Urbina Bay (Isabela Island) After lunch, we disembark at Urbina Bay, the fascinating result of an uplifting of the ocean in 1954. Here we can admire corals, shells and many other calcareous organisms exposed above water. First we enjoy a snorkel from the beach, with the chance of swimming with flightless cormorants and penguins. This area is also home to a large and very colourful Galápagos land iguanas, and occasionally to giant tortoises. We return back on board for our expedition plan for Saturday and dinner. Aquatic activities: Snorkel Panga Ride Glass-bottom boat 18 19

SATURDAY Highlands of Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Island) This morning we head to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, with their impressive Scalesia forest and the twin pit craters known as Los Gemelos. A visit to see the giant tortoises in the wild may be included, if weather conditions are good. We enjoy lunch in the highlands, before beginning our afternoon activities. Visit an organic coffee plantation. 6. Scuba dive. This activity takes all day and has a cost. At the end of the afternoon s activities, we embark on the M/V Santa Cruz from the Puerto Ayora dock SUNDAY Post Office Bay and Baroness Cove (Floreana Island) A short walk leads us to the historic barrel where postcards are traditionally left for other guests from other vessels to hand-deliver to their destinations. Near Post Office Bay, we explore the north shore of Floreana along narrow channels teeming with life. After a wet landing and a short walk, we reach the Baroness Cove where we will learn more about the fascinating murder mystery on Floreana. After our land visit, we head to volcanic Champion Islet, regarded as one of the best snorkeling spots in the archipelago, and also fun to explore aboard the glass-bottom boat. Cormorant Point (Floreana Island) Cormorant Point makes a popular visit, beginning with our landing on the olivine-crystal beach for an easy walk that includes a brackish water lagoon where bird species such as greater flamingos, pintail ducks, common stilts, herons, sandpipers, and others gather. We continue over to a white-sand beach, where sea turtles emerge from the sea at night to nest (from December to May). MONDAY Baltra Island We disembark at Baltra Island in order to transfer to the airport to take the flight back to the mainland. 20 21

MONDAY 5 DAYS 4NIGHTS ITINERARY Northern Galápagos MONDAY TO FRIDAY Highlights: DAY AM VISITS ISLAND Aquatic Activities PM VISITS ISLAND Aquatic Activities Baltra Island We land at Baltra Island by plane in the morning and transfer to the dock to board the M/V Santa Cruz, where we receive a welcome introductory briefing and lunch. Las Bachas (Santa Cruz Island) This beautiful visitor site is located on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island, a glorious white beach with several brackish lagoons only a few steps away from the sea. These lagoons provide the feeding grounds for various wading birds, from stilts to flamingos. This is a good opportunity to get acquainted with snorkelling gear and techniques from the shore, if time permits. TUESDAY Buccaneer Cove (Santiago Island) After breakfast, we explore the coastline along the impressive cliffs of Buccaneer Cove, learning about the area s distant and recent history. The cove is home to a large number of marine birds, sea lions, and inter-tidal organisms. Enjoy fantastic natural formations such as the Elephant Rock, The Bishop and an impressive natural cave. This is a fun site for snorkelling and the glass-bottom boat, too! Monday Baltra Airport Baltra Las Bachas Santa Cruz Tuesday Buccaneer Cove Santiago Puerto Egas Santiago Wednesday Red Beach Rábida Bartolomé Bartolomé Thursday Prince Phillip Steps Genovesa Darwin Bay Genovesa Friday Puerto Baquerizo Moreno Galapaguera Colorado San Cristóbal Itinerary is a guide only. Our route and programme varies according to National Park policies and regulations, weather conditions, seasonal changes, safety reasons and the wildlife we encounter. Aquatic activities: Snorkel Panga Ride Glass-bottom boat Puerto Egas (Santiago Island) Once we disembark at the beach, we can enjoy a swim or snorkel amid a rocky shoreline, usually in the company of marine turtles. From here, we head off for our walk, a great opportunity to see land and marine birds amid a landscape of tuff-stone layers and lava flows. At low tide, marine iguanas graze upon the algae beds and we can also observe a colony of fur-sea lions. Non-snorkellers can enjoy a longer walk. WEDNESDAY Red Beach (Rábida Island) After breakfast, we land on Rábida Island s red-coloured beach, caused by the unusually high content of iron in the volcanic material. Our walk brings us close to a large colony of sea lions, marine iguanas, mockingbirds, yellow warblers and several species of Darwin s finches. Very close to the beach, a salt pond hosts migrating greater flamingos at certain times of year. This is a great place to snorkel from the beach, both for beginners as well as for experienced snorkelers, due to the unique combination of underwater species and submarine landscapes. Non-snorkelers will enjoy a ride in the glass bottom boat. During navigation to our next island, dolphins are often spotted. Bartolomé Island We land at Bartolomé for a hike to the summit of this diminutive island that boasts fantastic views of the archipelago. This is a moderately steep climb aided by a wooden staircase, resting platforms and handrails the view from the top is worth the effort! Following our walk, we take to the pangas for a ride around the colossal Pinnacle Rock, and then land at the beach to enjoy some swimming, snorkelling or just relaxing (possibly with Galápagos penguins in attendance). 22 23

THURSDAY Prince Philip Steps (Genovesa Island) The morning starts with a panga ride along the cliffs of this dramatic island, followed by landing with a steep climb (90 feet) up some stairs to reach a flat plateau. Along our walk, we can observe large colonies of Nazca boobies, red footed boobies, great frigate birds and storm petrels. Those not wishing to disembark can enjoy a longer panga ride along the cliffs (depending on weather conditions). After the walk, we can snorkel along the dramatic cliffs where there are chances of spotting lots of fish, including hammerhead sharks. Darwin Bay (Genovesa Island) In the afternoon, we land at this beautiful natural bay to enjoy some swimming and/or snorkelling. Following our dip, we take an easy stroll to observe hundreds of birds, mainly frigate birds, red footed and Nazca boobies, gulls, herons, finches and mockingbirds. There s an optional walk over sharp lava and uneven terrain for dramatic views, or else we can return to the beach. FRIDAY Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (San Cristóbal (Chatham) Island) After breakfast, there s an optional departure to see the breeding programme of giant tortoises at Cerro Colorado. Here, we learn about this endangered species and its promising recovery. Following the visit, we return to town and transfer to the airport to take the flight back to the mainland.
