YMCA of Regina

YMCA of Regina YMCA Inclusive Summer Programs are so much more than just fun in the sun. Our camps have a structure and routine of active living and recreation that can provide children with positive opportunities during the summer season. Campers will enjoy outdoor activities, sports, swimming, and outings into the community, in addition to explorations into the creative arts, science, and key concepts of healthy living (physical activity and nutrition). YMCA Regina is proud to provide campers of all abilities with an inclusive summer experience based on support and equality. Both the Downtown and Northwest camps have registration spaces reserved for campers who would benefit from a higher degree of support in order to achieve a positive camp experience. All campers participate together in every aspect of day camp life, gaining new skills, challenging personal limits, and having fun. When children acquire and practice fundamental movement and sport skills at a young age they are more likely to stay active and maintain healthy habits in adulthood. YMCA Regina Physical Literacy curriculum has been developed by certified National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and Healthy Child Development trainers. Aligned with the Canadian Sport for Life s Long-Term Athlete Development Framework (CS4L LTAD), all YMCA programs provide children and youth the opportunity to practice and improve their physical literacy skills and develop movement confidence in support of becoming Active for Life. At YMCA Summer Day Camp, Value Beads play an important role as a sign of character and personal achievement. Value Beads promote positive behaviour, and are worn as a constant reminder of what we value as a camp community. Throughout the week, beads are awarded to individuals for demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, inclusion, leadership, and excellence. Camp Counselors watch for and encourage these positive behaviours throughout the day, and reward campers daily with Value Beads during a Bead Ceremony.

Play Dates AM This half-day camp is perfect for your preschooler and is a great way to get your child socially, cognitively, and physically active. Creative games, songs, crafts, theme based activities, recreational swimming, and out trips will fill little campers half day. Mini Fit Kids AM If you have a lil mover in your family, we ve got the camp for you! This camp will focus on developing healthy living practises in young campers through age appropriate physical activity and nutritional learning. Camp activities will focus on fundamental movement and sport skills taught through funfilled games and activities. Swim Camp Stay cool with a summer swim camp! Certified Swim Instructors will guide campers through aquatic skills with twice daily swim instruction based on the YMCA Learn to Swim and Star Programs. Campers have the chance to earn a full swim level within the week while having fun and making new friends! Other camp activities include co-operative games, outdoor activities, creative arts, and fundamental movement activities. Please provide current swim level certification upon registration. Sport Development Time to bring the heat and have some fun! Our YMCA staff is NCCP certified in Fundamental Movement Skills and will encourage campers to explore all sport areas and help develop a sense of physical literacy. Focus will be on throwing, catching, jumping, striking, running, kicking, agility, balance, and coordination. Fun games and action packed activities will boost campers confidence to live healthy and be active for life. Full STEAM Ahead! Learn skills for tomorrow with fun and exciting activities. From crazy science experiments to mathematic problem solving games your kids will never want to stop learning! This camp will keep your child learning during the summer and have them exploring the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art/design and math. Art-Rageous Art can be used as a form of expression, something which brings children joy and helps develop their creativity and imagination. Our Art-Rageous camp has been developed to provide campers the opportunity to be imaginative and express themselves with the creative use and reuse of materials. Counselor selected projects will introduce children to basic art skills such as drawing, painting, and sculpting; while childcentred directives will allow campers to explore more personal interests.

Urban Adventure Share the wonders of nature with your child. This camp will feature direct experiences with the natural world through hands-on activities, games, crafts and nature exploration. We will explore the world of animals, insects, habitats and ecosystems, animal adaptations and survival. Our campers have endless hours of fun while learning about the natural environment in our own backyards. Camp Rewind Wish you could relive the fun games, sport activities or splashable moments from summer? Well, this is the week you ve been waiting for! We are going to take some of the most fun and action filled moments over summer and jam them all into one week of awesomeness. Let s play games, move, shake and splash with a full blown camp REWIND! How to Register A Camper Registration Form must be completed in full for each camper, signed by a parent or legal guardian, and returned to a YMCA Member Services Desk before the Camper s first day. Camper Registration Forms can be obtained from the Member Services Desk at each YMCA of Regina or from the website regina.ymca.ca. There will be no daily drop-ins. Pre-registration is required. Registration is due at 4:30 pm the Friday prior to the week attending camp. Fees All fees are due at the time of registration. The camp fees are non-refundable 7 days prior to your child going to camp. Cancellations received prior to the 7 days before your child attends camp will be given a full refund, excluding a $10 processing fee. No refunds are issued after the cancellation deadline. Outdoors Everyday! Spending time outdoors is essential to every child s development. Playing outdoors is a form of exercise that promotes holistic well-being and wholesome physical development. Children are naturally drawn to active play and exploration outdoors: it allows them to connect to their natural environment, develop muscle strength and coordination, and gain self-confidence. Transportation Once a week, the whole camp will go on one large out trip. This provides Campers the opportunity to socialize with Campers from other YMCA programs and to learn from the leaders within our greater community. Campers will be transported in a school bus for the large out trips. Throughout the week, individual groups will also go on small out trips. These smaller trips are done via walking or the City of Regina Transit system. If you have any questions regarding transportation, please speak to the Camp Director of the YMCA facility your child will be attending.

Clothing and Equipment Checklist The following is a list of items that each camper will need to bring to camp every day: Packed Lunch (full day camp)-- Must be ready to eat as campers will not have access to a microwave Snacks x2 -- Healthy snacks are best to ensure kids have enough energy to last the day Water bottle -- 2, 4, 6, 8! Everybody hydrate! Backpack Running Shoes or Athletic-style sandals (no flip flops) Bathing Suit Swim Towel Hat -- All children must wear a hat when outdoors. Sunscreen -- SPF 15 or higher is best Insect Repellent Rain Gear -- Camp happens rain or shine A book to read or other quiet time activity As a charity, The YMCA of Regina believes in equal opportunity for all members of the community -- regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, ability, religion, or economic circumstances.
