UPDATED NOVEMBER 28, 2011 The Daughters of Daniel Putman and Sarah Kendrick These are the daughters of Daniel Putman. They were born in Virginia and most moved down to South Carolina with their folks in the 1790s after the Revolution had settled thing down. They were: FRANCES PUTMAN Frances was the eldest child, being born about 1766 in St, Mark s Parish, Culpeper County Virginia. She married John McDonald there on December 23, 1785 and moved to Montgomery County Kentucky where she died in the 1820s. John remarried, but I do not have his second wife's name. On October 10, 1831, the children of John McDonald and Frances Putman filed a petition as heirs to the estate of her father Daniel Putman. In this petition, we get the names of the twelve children: SUSANNAH MCDONALD was born about 1787 in Culpeper County Virginia and died November 13, 1857 in Franklin County Kentucky. MARY POLLY McDONALD was born about 1789 in Virginia and married a Crosswait and was seemingly widowed in 1831. JOHN McDONALD was born in Montgomery County Kentucky about 1791. LUCINDA LUCY McDONALD was born about 1802 in Montgomery County Kentucky. She married Ezekiel Fluty about 1818 or 1819. He was born about 1800 in Estill County Kentucky and died in September 1864 in Montgomery County Kentucky. Lucy died about 1881 in Petty, Lawrence County Illinois. They had 7 children. ELIZABETH McDONALD was born in Kentucky and married Regin Brand. FRANCES McDONALD was born about 1815 in Montgomery County and married Wyatt Pace about 1833. He was born in Virginia in about 1805 and died In Calloway County Missouri in 1865. Frances died there in 1869. PHOEBE McDONALD married James J. Jewett in Kentucky May 9, 1826. GEORGE McDONALD LOUISA McDONALD ELIZABETH PUTMAN Elizabeth was born in 1768 and married James Hughes in Culpeper County on March 7, 1786. They moved to South Carolina with the family. They were in Abbeville County in 1800, Laurens County in 1810, Greenville County in 1820 and back in Abbeville County for the 1830 census. I do not have any listing of their children, but according to the census reports, they had a normal bunch of them. The one I know of is: MOSES HUGHES born June 30, 1797. He married Anna B. Collins about 1815. They lived in Laurens County. Anna was born June 7, 1793 in Culpeper County Virginia and died in Greenville, South Carolina in 1878. Moses died in Laurens County in the early 1860s. They had these children: Sterling Pinkney Hughes born in Laurens County June 10, 1817 and died in Cummings, Forsyth County Georgia August 26, 1891. He married Sallie Jones October 4, 1838. She was born in South Carolina September 4, 1815 and died in Cummings, Georgia December 19, 1898. They had 7 children. William Henry Hughes born August 3, 1819 and died in Laurens County May 30, 1897. He married Mary Anna Jones August 3, 1843. She was previously married to a Howard. Mary was born in Greenville County South Carolina September 29, 1825 and died in Cedar Grove, Cape May New Jersey April 27, 1906. They had 8 children. James Hughes born in Laurens County March 19, 1823 and died in Canton, Cherokee County Georgia February 2, 1885, Amanda Elizabeth Hughes born in Laurens County October 11, 1824 and died March 13, 1907. She married Oliver Perry Brown and two of their daughters married Putmans in Laurens County South Carolina. Elvira married Alexander Putman and Mary married Bluford Putman. Both of these Putmans were sons of James Putman and Elizabeth Hughes of Laurens County. Isaac Lemon Hughes born in Reidsville, Spartanburg County August 20, 1831 and died in Fort Worth, Texas May 30, 1906. He married Sarah Malina Cox about 1849. Sallie was born in South Carolina May 1, 1831 and died in Fort Worth May 8, 1900. They had some 13 children. MARY PUTMAN Mary was born in about 1772 and I have no information on her beyond this. MILLY PUTMAN Milly was born in about 1774 and married George Spruill or Spruel in the 1790s in South Carolina. They remained in Abbeville County for the 1800 and 1810 census. They moved to

Mississippi before 1820. They were in Monroe County Mississippi in 1820 and 1830 and in Choctaw County Mississippi in 1840. In 1820 they had three sons and four daughters. MARGARET PUTMAN Margaret was born about 1781 in Virginia. She married Presley Owens in Abbeville County May 12, 1797. Presley Owens was born in Culpeper County Virginia in 1775 died in April 1830. She died about 1848 in Laurens County. They were in the 1800 census of Abbeville County. In 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840 they were in Laurens County. In the 1830 census they had nine children, I only have the names of three: Gideon Owens Gideon was born in 1798. He married Elizabeth Putman, daughter of William Putman and Mary Mitchell in 1818. He died on December 30, 1850. Elizabeth also died in the latter 1850s. Their children were: WILLIAM OWENS was born in 1819 and died in October 1859. He married Malinda Thomas in 1842. She was a daughter of Reuben Thomas and Lavinia Putman. HARRISON OWENS was born in 1822 and died in February 1851. He married Elizabeth Garner in 1843. She was a daughter of James Garner and Catherine Riddle. JOHN MITCHELL OWENS was born July 25, 1827. He married Nancy Mary Rose on September 13, 1844. She was a daughter of William Rose and Charlotta Crosland. JANE OWENS was born in 1830 and died October 18, 1873. She married Toliver Owens on May 31, 1852. He was a son of Abner Owens and Bethenia Gantt. THOMAS OWENS was born in 1834 and died in September 1875. He first married Sarah Garner in 1855. She died in 1867. He then married Martha Ann Putman in 1869. She was a daughter of James Putman and Elizabeth Hughes. ABNER OWENS was born March 4, 1840 and died March 13, 1912. In 1866, he married Ibby Garrett. She was born in South Carolina February 14, 1842 and died in Laurens October 15, 1923.

Abner Owens Abner was born about 1805 or so. In about 1828, he married Bethenia Gantt. She was a daughter of Almond Gantt and Nancy Bramblett and was born in Laurens County in 1809. I do not know when he died, but Bethenia died in January 1857. Their children were: MANCIL OWENS was born October 29, 1829 and died January 18, 1910. He married Judith Knight in 1857. She died in 1880 and Mancil then married Cecilia Riddle, daughter of Fielding Riddle and Cynthia Garrett. TOLIVER OWENS was born November 21, 1830. He married a cousin, Jane Owens, on May 31, 1852. Jane was born in 1830 and died October 18, 1873. He then married Dorcas Lucinda Warren on August 25, 1874 in Chattooga County Georgia. I don t have any more on Toliver. A relative gave me a bunch of info on Lucinda though. She was born to Jane C. Williams on May 23, 1830 and shown in Jane s bible as Dorcas Lucinda Williams. Jane either was married to a Williams guy or had Lucinda out of wedlock. She did marry John Villiard (Johannes Williard was proper spelling) in September 1830. She married William Allmon in Hall County Georgia on December 30, 1846. He died or they separated in the later 1850s as in 1860 she was back with her parents and 3 Allmon sons. She used the name Dorcas then. On September 16, 1861 Dorcas married Valentine Thorton Warren. He died around 1865. Then as listed earlier, she married Toliver in 1874. He died in July 1897. Lucinda was widowed in 1900 and 1910 living with her married daughter Mattie Warren Porter in Missouri. She died in Kansas City, Missouri April 24, 1911. He didn t have any children with Jane or Lucinda. Lucinda had three kids with William Allman and a daughter Mattie with Valentine Warren. ROBERT OWENS was born in 1833. AMANDA OWENS was born in 1835. She married William Knight. WILLIS OWENS was born in 1837. NANCY OWENS was born in 1840. She married William Sumerall. GIDEON OWENS was born in 1845. He married Martha Owens who was the widow of James Coleman. SUSAN OWENS was born September 4, 1848 and she died February 1, 1910. She married Willis A. Burns in 1869. Willis was born December 26, 1849 and died March 25, 1936. He was a son of Robertson Burns and Kiziah Putman. Lawson Owens Lawson was born in 1810 and died March 4, 1894. He was married three times. First to Frances Ball in 1837. She was a daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Ball. Frances died in the fall of 1850 and then he married Frances Martin on February 11, 1851. His second wife died in the 1880s and he last married Permilia Ella Garrett, a daughter of Zadock Garrett and Nancy Robertson. Permelia was some forty-one years his junior.

His children, one by each wife, were: JOHN PERRY OWENS born in 1838 and died unmarried in Columbia, South Carolina in 1877. JAMES TURNER OWENS born November 15, 1851 and died February 15, 1887. He married Sarah Ellen Fowler in 1872. Sarah was born January 31, 1854 and died May 15, 1939. She was a daughter of William and Elizabeth Fowler. SARAH MAHULDA PUTMAN Sarah was born about 1786 and married William Henry Cross about 1803. William was born in 1787 in Baltimore County Maryland. His father was Solomon Cross Junior. They were in the 1810 and 1820 Laurens County census returns. They moved to Hall County Georgia in the 1830s. William died there in 1841 (will probated October 5, 1841). Sarah was alive in 1860, living with her son Garrison. Their children were: NIMROD CROSS born in Laurens County about 1804 and married an Elizabeth. He died in Forsythe County Georgia February 15, 1851. They had ten children. Nancy Ann Cross born in Laurens County in July 1826. She died in Forsyth County Georgia in November 1859. She married John Lewis Jones April 8, 1843. They had six children. Garrison Cross born in 1828 and died in the Civil War in Jackson, Mississippi November 11, 1862. Lucinda Cross born about 1829 in Laurens County. Diadama Cross born in Hall County Georgia in 1833 and died in Forsyth County Georgia September 17, 1900. She married John Lewis Jones after her sister Nancy died in 1859. Sarah Cross born in Hall County in 1834. She married Dennis Marshall League. Margaret Cross born May 9, 1835 and died in Jefferson County Arkansas April 30, 1870. She married Newton F. Light March 11, 1854. Gideon Cross born December 13, 1836 and died in the Civil War in Knoxville, Tennessee November 26, 1862. He married Frances Lucinda McCreary March 27, 1855. They had three children. Absalom Cross born in 1839. Permelia Cross born in Forsyth County Georgia in 1841. Mary Jane Cross born in Forsyth County in 1844 and died December 29, 1884 in Jasper, Pickens County Georgia. She married William Mallory Jones January 6, 1859. They had seven children. GARRISON CROSS born in 1806 in Laurens County and married Elizabeth Wayne about 1830. She was born in Georgia in 1807 and died in Milton County Georgia in 1893. Garrison died in Freemansville, Forsyth County Georgia in November 1889. They had ten children: Emily T. Cross born in 1832. Demarius Cross born in 1834.

John W. Cross born in 1836. Kinchen R. Cross born in 1838 and died in 1888. William Henry Cross born in 1840. Sarah O. Cross born in 1842. Wiley T. Cross born in 1843. Levi Cross born in 1845 and died in the Civil War in Richmond, Virginia on December 22, 1862. James Absalom Cross born February 2, 1848 and died in Forsyth County June 23, 1888. His wife was Martha and they had six children. Maria Cross born in 1851. SILAS CROSS born August 13, 1809 in Laurens County. He married Elizabeth Wilson on December 27, 1829 in Hall County Georgia. She was born May 9, 1811 in South Carolina and died in Hall County April 12, 1874. Silas died in Walton County Georgia February 15, 1880. They had 14 children all born in Hall County Georgia: John William Cross born November 11, 1830 and died in Calhoun County Alabama January 24, 1877. He married Edna C. Tuggle November 29, 1853 and they had six children. Daniel Putman Cross born December 16, 1832. He died in the Civil War in Fredericksburg, Virginia February 18, 1863. He married Sarah M. White February 7, 1854 and they had four children James Anderson Cross born August 30, 1834 and died in Georgia in 1874. Wiley Hutchins Cross born August 16, 1836 and died in Georgia October 31, 1861. Zachariah Nimrod Cross born October 7, 1838 and died in High Shoals, Oconee County Georgia June 5, 1925. His wife was Sarah. Lucinda Caroline Cross born September 24, 1840 and died in Gwinnett County Georgia in 1888. Mary Malinda Cross born September 16, 1842 and died in Georgia in 1887. Sarah Opry Cross born September 16, 1842 and died in Hall County in 1890. Chesley Chandler Cross born May 24, 1845 and died in Barrow County Georgia July 12, 1924. He married a Lethey Jane and had four children. After she died he later married Georgia Ann Callaway in 1899. They were divorced in the early 1900s as he was alone in 1910. Lewis Bird Cross born May 25, 1847 and died in Georgia in 1890. Silas Major Cross born July 24, 1849 and died in Gwinnett County Georgia February 7, 1925. He married Sarah Emeline Puckett and they had five children. Indiana Elizabeth Cross born August 15, 1851 and died November 23, 1933 in Jackson County Georgia. Cincinnati Belle Cross born May 27, 1854 and died August 11, 1919 in Georgia. WILLIAM HENRY CROSS, JR. born about 1812 and married a Milley. ZACHARIAH D. CROSS born about 1815 in Laurens County South Carolina. He married Delaney Crowley September 18, 1844 in DeKalb County Georgia. She was born in Georgia in about 1808 and died in Decatur, De Kalb County Georgia April 17, 1892. They had two children: Permelia Cross born in Mississippi in 1846. Wiley Cross born in 1852 and died in Cherokee County Alabama in 1882. He married Samantha Jane Moore and they had three children.

ABSALOM CROSS born about 1817 and died January 18, 1863. He married Sarah Ann Wayne December 6, 1840 in Hall County Georgia. (interesting, their first child was born 13 days later). She was born in Georgia January 28, 1823 and died there October 10, 1895. They were in Cherokee County in 1850 and Milton County after that. They had 10 children. Anderson Caleb Cross born in Georgia December 19, 1840 and died in Miller County Arkansas November 22, 1902. He married Susannah Missouri Grogan in 1860. They had eight children. Mary Adeline Cross born May 11, 1843 in South Carolina and died in Etowah County Alabama January 30, 1885. She married Newton Lee Bates March 25, 1866 and had six children. Pinkney Cross born in South Carolina in 1849. William Cross born in South Carolina in 1850. Georgia Ann Cross born in Cherokee County Alabama August 3, 1852 and died in Etowah County Alabama October 27, 1914. She married James Irving Hughes in 1870 and they had eleven children in Marshall County Alabama. Jane Caroline Cross born in Milton, Georgia August 30, 1852 and died in Etowah County Georgia October 4, 1912. She married William Cole February 7, 1871. They had nine children all in Etowah County Alabama. Missouri Cross born in Milton, Georgia in 1855. Elizabeth Cross born in Milton March 28, 1857 and died in Blount County Alabama February 7, 1908. She married Hiram Saye in about 1872 and they had three children. Zachariah R. Cross born in Milton, Georgia March 28, 1857, a twin, and died in Childress, Texas March 3, 1919. He married Virginia Cray Nix December 26, 1878 and they had nine children in Texas. John Cross born in Milton in 1859. LUCY CROSS born July 5, 1819 and died in Alabama April 19, 1857. She married James George Spruell September 6, 1846 in Hall County Georgia. He was born in Abbeville County South Carolina April 9, 1794 and died in Pickens County Georgia March 30, 1868. They had six children all born in Alabama: John Spruell born in 1832. William Spruell born in 1834. Martha Spruell born in 1836. Sarah Mildred Spruell born March 9, 1848 Laura Abigail Spruell born March 25, 1850. Gilly Missouri Spruell born February 3, 1852. GILLEAN CROSS born about 1820 in Laurens County. She married Robert Miles Brown. WILEY P. CROSS born in 1822. He married Temperance Porter October 11, 1843 in Hall County. They had four children: John W, Cross born in 1845. Delancy J. Cross born in 1847. Julian Cross born in 1857. Tina Cross born in 1869. MARY CROSS born about 1826. She married Guilford Wheeler. LEANDER AUGUSTA CROSS born about 1827. He married Matilda Emeline Roberts

August 24, 1845 in Hall County Georgia and she died in 1845. He then married Elizabeth Arrington about 1847 in Tennessee. He died there February 2, 1863 in the Civil War. NANCY PUTMAN Nancy was born about 1788 and married Aaron Moore. He was born in Norwich, Norfolk County England in about 1781. I believe they remained in Laurens County. They were there through the 1830 census. Aaron died in Pickens County May 3, 1857. I don t know when or where Nancy died. Their children were: TILLMAN MOORE born Laurens County in about 1806. He married Emily Franks about 1826. He died in Rome Georgia in 1855, and she died in the 1860s in Mississippi. HUDSON MOORE born about 1807. ARMILDA ANNIE MOORE born about 1809 and died after 1880 in Mississippi. She married John F, Knight and died before the 1880 census. EMERY MOORE born July 5, 1812 in Laurens County and died January 8, 1877 in Oconee County. He married Telitha Owens. She was born April 22, 1816 and died in Lockett, Wilbarger County Texas January 22, 1893. They had seven children all born in Pickens County South Carolina. All of them except William moved to Oconee County and died there. William Moore born November 16, 1836 and died in the Civil War in White Oak, Virginia in 1863. He married Laura Cole. Sanford Vandiver Moore born October 1, 1842 and died August 8, 1884. He married Sarah Saunders. George F. Moore born May 10, 1845 and died February 13, 1922. He married Martha Abernathy. Margaret Elizabeth Moore born January 23, 1846 and died February 12, 1906. She married William Taylor Williams in 1867. Malinda Moore born November 9, 1848 and died in March 1886. Mary Jane Moore born January 2, 1853 and died in 1854. James A. Moore born May 4, 1858 and died June 11, 1885. DEMPSEY P. MOORE born in 1813 in Pickens, Laurens County and died in Choctaw County Mississippi about 1880. He married a cousin Susan Putman about 1833. She was a daughter of William Abner Putman and Mary Cook Mitchell also of Laurens County. She was born December 27, 1816 and died in Choctaw County Mississippi November 1, 1889. They had: James W. MAHALAH MOORE born in 1819 and died about 1870 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and married Joseph Vandergrift. He was born about 1814 and died in the 1860s. SEABORN MOORE born about 1820. He married Jane Jordan in Talbot County Georgia April 11, 1847. ELIZABETH LIZA MOORE born June 22, 1822 and died in Georgia August 17, 1898. She married William H. Thomas. LAVINIA MOORE born about 1824. She married George Ross Duke about 1850. They were in Dalton, Whitfield County Georgia in 1880. I don t find them after that. They had two children: Mary Adaline Duke born in 1852. Wiley Milford Duke born in July 1855 and died in Chillicothe, Texas October 17, 1928. MARY MOORE born in 1827. She married Robert Honea March 6, 1839. MANIMA MOORE born August 11, 1828. She married Levi Brewer October 30, 1849 and they lived in Pickens County. He was born in Pendleton, South Carolina in 1817 and died in Smithfield, North Carolina April 1, 1865 in the Civil War. Manima moved South with the kids and died in Marietta, Georgia January 18, 1895. LUCINDA (LUCY) PUTMAN Lucy was the only child born in South Carolina. She was born about 1791 in Abbeville County. She married Jonathan Jones and remained in Laurens County in the 1820 census and in Anderson County for the 1830 census.
