DAY 1: USA / SPAIN Fly through the night to Madrid, Spain. DAY 2: MADRID Meet your Prométour Tour Director at Madrid s Barajas airport. Transfer to your hotel to drop off your luggage. Get to know the neighborhood of the hotel with your Tour Director; use this time to exchange money. While in Madrid travel as the locals do, by foot and metro! Visit the Palacio Real. With 3000 rooms, it is twice the size of Buckingham Palace. Admire the magnificent interiors and the ornate furniture. Enjoy a stroll through Old Madrid and explore the 16 th and 17 th century narrow streets around the famous Plaza Mayor, said to be the most elegant square in the continent and the Plaza de España with its Cervantes Monument. Have dinner with your group. DAY 3: MADRID After breakfast, enter the Museo del Prado, one of the top three museums in the world and admire its collection of Spanish painting. See masterpieces by Goya and Velazquez, including Las Meninas, considered by some art historians as the greatest canvas ever painted. See the Monument to Alfonso XII as well as the Crystal Palace in the Parque del Retiro. Free time for shopping in Madrid de los Austrias and visit one of the most important Department Stores in Spain El Corte Inglés Have dinner with your group. DAY 4: DAY EXCURSION TO TOLEDO After breakfast, depart to Toledo, historic capital of Castilla la Mancha. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the city and discover the history behind Toledo s fortified walls as well as Santa María la Blanca Cathedral. Enter Toledo s monumental Cathedral, the spiritual heart of the Spanish Church. Admire its Monstrance, its High Altar Reredos and the Transparente. Visit to a traditional sword workshop where you will learn how the metal is forged into elaborate weaponry. At the end of your visit you will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs. Have some free time to explore the intricate streets of Toledo. Return to Madrid and have dinner with your group. DAY 5: DAY EXCURSION TO EL ESCORIAL / MADRID / PARIS Have breakfast and then transfer San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Upon arrival, meet your local guide for a visit of the Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, resting-place of Spain s Royal dynasties. Visit the impressive Panteon de los Reyes, the Panteon de los Infantes and the lavish Library. On your way back to Madrid stop at El Valle de los Caídos (subject to it being re-opened). Dinner with your group followed by a transfer to the train station. Bid a fond hasta luego to your Spanish tour director and board your overnight train to Paris.
DAY 6: PARIS Meet your Prométour Tour Director at the train station in Paris. Transfer to your centrally located Paris hotel to drop-off your bags. Have breakfast with your group. While in Paris travel as the locals do, by foot and metro! Get to know the neighborhood of the hotel with your Tour Director use this time to exchange money. Later, stroll about the Trocadéro. Visit its breathtaking gardens. Admire the view from the 3 rd floor of the Eiffel Tower. Stroll on the Champs-Elysées. See the Arc de Triomphe & visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. DAY 7: PARIS Visit l Hotel National des Invalides, a hospital for Napoleon s Army, an Army Museum and the resting-place of the Emperor. Visit Philippe Auguste's Louvre where you ll see master pieces such as the Mona Lisa. With a record 8.3 million visitors annually, it is by far the most visited culture and art museum in the world. Walk through the Jardin des Tuileries to the Place de la Concorde. Notice the Egyptian Obelisk at its center. Enter the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, a magnificent religious edifice which is one of the supreme masterpieces of French gothic architecture. Have dinner with your group in the area. DAY 8: ½ DAY EXCURSION TO VERSAILLES / PARIS This morning after breakfast, board your private bus and head for a visit of the Château of Versailles. See the State Apartments, the King s Chamber and the Hall of Mirrors. Later, head for the elegantly landscaped gardens. You ll see the massive gilded fountains with mythical creatures, lines of statues, and gardens that seem to go on forever. Return to Paris and take this afternoon to explore the delights of Le Quartier Latin where you ll see the Luxembourg Gardens Le Panthéon, and the Sorbonne University. This evening, board a glass-topped bateau mouche, where you ll enjoy a cruise on the River Seine. DAY 9: PARIS Visit the Musée d'orsay which was originally a railway station. Admire its extensive collections of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and literature drawn from the 19 th & 20 th century. Enter the beautiful Opera Garnier best known as the backdrop for Gaston Leroux's famous Gothic novel, The Phantom of the Opera and all of its incarnations. Explore the Opera Quarter, home to Galleries Lafayette and the Place Vendome. Later, head up to the highest point in Paris, Montmartre, known locally as La Butte. Climb the steps to reach the Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre s hilltop church and most famous landmark. DAY 10: FRANCE / USA Have breakfast at your hotel before transferring to the airport. After a wonderful trip, say a fond au revoir to your tour director and board your flight back to the USA.
