PENINSULA SWISS CLUB A social club for everyone with ties to Switzerland Newsletter No.3 April 2017 www.peninsulaswissclub.com President: Sandra Scanferla Eidam Vice President: Maja Schleicher-Joos Family Barbecue, Semi Annual Meeting Sunday, May 21 Lower Stevens Creek County Park PRESIDENT S MESSAGE 2017 PSC CALENDAR OF EVENTS Dear Members and Friends of the Peninsula Swiss Club, This year we are blessed with a lot of rain and so we celebrated our Easter Egg Hunt inside with our lovely Easter Bunny. Please take the time and read the beautifully-written essay and take a look at the great pictures. I would like to thank the writer, photographer, and all the helpers who made the past Sunday a success despite the typical April Weather. It almost feels like being back in Switzerland, where we knew that Easter means bad weather and we tried to escape it by going south towards Italy. Ticino is the place we all wanted to be the Swiss Sunne Stube. But I am sure that we will have plenty of sun and blue sky at our next event, the Family BBQ / Semiannual meeting. Please join us for a fun time outdoors. You may have already noticed that we changed our date for the First of August Celebration to accommodate our Swiss families who are taking the summer off to visit their family back in Switzerland. Also, we have an additional change for our General Meeting, thanks to the survey conducted at our Fondue Night by Walter Gyger. Thank you all for participating and we are happy to announce that this year we will have a Fall Feast with a new delicious menu. Ei, Ei, Ei - Peninsula Swiss Club Easter Brunch By Andrea Köppel Nko o They did it again the Peninsula Swiss Club hosted another wonderful event, which brought together a group of people, all connected through their love to Switzerland. Thanks to the effort of the Committee members, who arrived as always, early to the beautiful Shoup Park in Los Altos, to successfully set up the event. This meant to unpack the numerous boxes, getting out the tables and chairs, decorating the room with Swiss Flags, flowers, Easter chocolate eggs, setting up the kitchen and getting ready for cooking. Sure enough, everything was ready in time and people along with their excited children started to arrive at the event. Soon the room was filled with friendly chatters, laughs, excited children playing with their friends and a delicious smell from the kitchen. The line to collect the meal, formed quickly and gave me a great opportunity to meet and talk with new and old friends. The traditional Eggs Benedict, the fruit salad and home-made Swiss goodies by the members of the club were fantastic. After the meal, I could feel how the excitement among the children rose, the Easter Bunny was finally HERE the smiling faces from the children grew even happier, when they discovered their Easter Bags on the veranda. Even the rain, which had begun around the time the event started, could not belittle their joy. Pictures were taken with the Easter Bunny to have a memory of this quality time spent celebrating Swiss traditions and happiness. Children were running in and out, some were drawing and others were exploring the content of their Easter Bags. After a final cup of coffee and chocolate egg people started to say good-bye. The Committee members and some remaining helping hands got the room and kitchen cleaned up, things packed, boxes stored away in the cars as if nothing had happen until the next time, when the big Swiss family meets again.
