As the first Convention Bureau in Malaysia and a non-profit organization, SCB serves as a one-stop centre to assist meeting and event planners to bid for and stage national, regional and international business events in Sarawak and help connect associations, corporate organisations, and government bodies with elements necessary to ensure success. In 2015, SCB supported 59 Business Events representing 17,910 delegates, and 55,666 delegate days, which contributed an estimated direct delegate expenditure of RM32.643 million to Sarawak. Overall, since 2006, SCB supported 394 convention bids representing 157, 061 delegates, and 546,921 delegate days, which contributed an estimated direct delegate expenditure of RM322.675 million in economic returns to Sarawak. *Business events refer to meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions also formally known as MICE. SCB s Role Facilitate bids for national, regional and international Business Events. Create cooperative industry platforms to sell and promote Sarawak's business event products and services. Advise and assist business event organisers to plan and promote their events internationally. Assist organisers in the selection of local product and service providers. Facilitate requests for support from government. Facilitate product development and to promote education and training for the industry.

Economic Value of Business Events The average spending per trip for international business delegates is estimated to be RM7, 418.00 per pax. The average length of international conventions is 3.9 days. The average length of stay for international business events delegates including pre- and post-touring is 5.85 days. Business events delegates spending is estimated to be at least three times more than an average leisure visitor. Business travel spending is expected to grow by 5.0% per annum to MYR117.9billion of direct Travel & Tourism GDP in 2025 [Source: TTECM2]. Business Events relate to all sectors of the business & professional community, with a particular emphasis in the areas of agriculture, Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), public health, education, security, and the development of women and children. Strengthening international business networks, opportunities and international collaboration. Attraction of industry world leaders, decision makers and potential investors that would not otherwise have visited the country.

Induced tourism nearly 60% of international conference delegates would like to return to destination within 2 years [Source: NBES¹]. Business Events are booked at least 2 5 years in advance providing higher levels of investor confidence for infrastructure developments. For every RM192, 450 in economic value generated by Business Events, there is one FTE (Full Time Equivalent) job created. [Source: NBES¹] International conventions can often leave an on-going legacy to benefit the local and regional community. The camaraderie developed around business events enhanced and developed relationships, thus accruing broader benefits of the communities. An estimated 46% of international delegates extend their stay for pre and post travel providing benefits to regional communities.
