Hosted by the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club and the Sault Cycling Club The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club is celebrating 60 years of Nordic ski racing in Sault Ste. Marie in the Hiawatha Highlands area by hosting HIAWATHA SNOWFEST, Jan. 23/24, 2016. For map and directions MAP: Sugar Shack EVENT DETAILS Saturday January 23, 2016 Interval Start Ski Races (10:30am Start) Interval start ski races are Free for youth registered in Soo Finnish programs (Bunnyrabbits, Jackrabbits, Racing Rabbits, Track Attack, Race Team, Para Nordic, Special Olympics). Skiers in these programs DO NOT need to register online for this event. They should report to their groups at the usual 10:00 am start and location where coaches will distribute bibs. Entry fee for all other participants is $5. Each skier will start 30 seconds apart. Bibs pickup for all other participants will be at 9:30am in the Bible Fellowship (brown building).

Late registration will close at 6pm, Friday Jan 22, 2016. Hot dog barbeque free for participants follows the event. Events will be scheduled by category. Hiawatha Snowfest clay medals will be given to the top 3 finishers in each Year of Birth (YOB) up to 19 years of age and top 3 in each race category above that. All Participants will receive a Hiawatha Snowfest ribbon. Soo Finnish Ski Museum & Café (10:30 3:00) Coffee and Finnish bread will be available all day along with a display of Soo Finnish memorabilia dating back to the beginnings of the club in1955. The museum and café will be available all day, indoors in the former Soo Finnish Lodge (now Bible Fellowship building). Come out and meet old and new friends and indulge in reminiscences! Enjoy coffee provided by St. Joseph Island Coffee Roasters. Ski-rabble Ski-ramble (12:30) A super fun Free ski, snowshoe and bike event for teams of 1-4 people will follow the interval start races. Participants will collect as many scrabble pieces as possible along the course. At the end of this timed event, the team with the most points on the scrabble board wins! Fat Bike Event (1:30) A cyclo-cross style event, where fat bikers will complete as many laps of a technical course as possible in a 45 min time period. The event will include a mass start, Lemans style, and a specially designed course is being developed just for this event. Fat bikes only rentals and/or demos will be available through local bike shops (Velorution and Algoma Bicycle). Contact information for these vendors is included in this package. Entry Fee: $12 for 19yrs and over (includes sausage and beer)$8 for 18yrs and under (includes sausage) Beer Tent and Sausage BBQ (12:00 4:00) Tent and BBQ will be in the parking lot near the blue Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Clubhouse. Must be 19 years of age for beer tent. Evening Pasta Dinner A fun banquet is planned at Algoma s Water Tower Inn. Cash bar. Doors open at 5:00 and dinner will be served at 6:00. Come early to view the Soo Finnish history museum in the lobby. Awards and presentations will be made from the day's events. Dietary restrictions can be identified through Zone 4 when registering. EVENT DETAILS Sunday January 24, 2016 Loppet and Finnish Pancake Breakfast A fun loppet will take place on the Pinder system with the start and finish at the Sugar Shack on Fifth line. A new course has been designed just for this event. All participants will receive a special edition Hiawatha Snowfest clay medal. A Finnish Pancake Breakfast is included for all participants and is also open to the public. Events include classic, skate and fat bike. Event begins at 10:00am with longest distance ski events going first, followed every 5 minutes by each distance category. Snow bikes will begin at 11:00am. $15 for 11 years and older, $10 for Child 10 years and younger Child 3 years and younger FREE Loppet: Classic/Skate Distances (10:00am Start) 1.0km 2.0km 5.0km 10km 20km 30km Loppet: Snow Bike Distances (11:00am Start) 10km 20km REGISTRATION AND ENTRY FEES Registration is online and will close on January 22 at 6:00pm. All registration fees include a day pass to the trails at Hiawatha for the day of the event registered. All participants are required to sign a waiver as part of the online registration process. Fat bike participants, will be required to sign a fat bike waiver at bib pick up.

All registration and bib pick up will be in the Bible Fellowship (brown building) except youth registered in Soo Finnish programs for Interval Start Ski Races. Coaches will distribute these bibs during class start at 10:00am. Waxing facilities are available onsite in the Soo Finnish Ski Club wax building. (blue building) Free parking is available onsite all weekend.
