Students learn English and new skills in sports, creative and adventure activities, experience cultural exchange and enjoy fun social events and excursions. PROGRA M OP T I ONS 2014 camp program options Winter Teen English and Activity Camp Tamwood s Vancouver Winter Camp offers the same high-quality English language instruction as Tamwood s summer camps, plus popular Canadian winter activities like skiing, snowboarding and ice skating. Designed especially for teens ages 12-18, students can participate in 2-, 3-, or 4-week programs, including 15 hours of classroom study and up to four organized activities per week. Classes are held at Tamwood s downtown Vancouver campus. Activities: On weekdays, after classes finish, campers take part in recreational and sightseeing activities in Vancouver that are designed to be both educational and fun. Activities include visits to downtown Vancouver, Chinatown, the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge, Science World, Vancouver Aquatic Centre, and much more. Note: Not all activities are offered in all weeks. Excursions: This program includes a full day trip to the world famous Whistler Resort, host venue of the 2012 winter Olympics. Jump into structured mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, orienteering, camping and mountaineering. Join a small group of teens from around the world who, like you, are ready for more than what a standard camp offers. You will learn important leadership, team work, camping and first aid skills as you try new activities and enjoy wilderness sleepovers in the mountains. Through a partnership with US Sports, the operator of Nike Sports Camp, America s largest sports camp provider, Tamwood is pleased to offer a program that combines the best in English Instruction with the best sports training and coaching in the USA. Campers take English classes in the mornings, join the Nike Sports camp program at Curry College four afternoons a week and take part in excursions and activities with campers in the English and Activity Camp at other times. Program Includes: English + Activity Component: 20 lessons/week (1 lesson = 45 min.) Serious instruction in a range of creative, adventure and cultural activities, 7 day a week program including great sightseeing, social activities, excursions and cultural events. Nike Sport Camp Options: NIKE Softball Training Designed for girls, the NIKE Softball Camps will help campers master the fundamentals, develop proper mechanics and gain valuable game play experience. Every aspect of the game is covered, giving you a solid foundation to build upon after camp. 8:1 camper-to-coach ratio. A written evaluation will be provided by coaching staff. The children attend English classes and activities with the campers in the Tamwood English + Activity Camp while the parents take part in adult English classes and optional activities. Tamwood s Toronto summer camp is located on the University of Toronto campus, Mississauga. The campus is situated on 225 acres of protected greenbelt along the Credit River and is 20 minutes by car from the Toronto airport, 25 kilometres west of the city centre of Toronto, close to Lake Ontario, Niagara Falls, Canada s Wonderland and many other famous sites. The location of this campus makes it a very safe and attractive choice for international campers. It is situated on the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by lots of beaches, mountains and nature. Tamwood s summer camp in Vancouver is located at the prestigious Simon Fraser University, at the summit of Burnaby Mountain overlooking beautiful Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is a short twenty-five minute drive from SFU. Los Angeles is home to many famous attractions - your choices include amusement parks, architectural landmarks, art museums and galleries, beaches, parks, hiking and shopping, to name a few. Tamwood Summer Camps is located at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). It is located in the residential area of Westwood and bordered by Bel-Air, Beverly Hills and Brentwood. Its central Los Angeles location makes it the perfect place for this summer camp which is so rich in sightseeing excursions. First incorporated in 1630, Boston is also one of the United States oldest cities. Our Boston Summer Camp is located at Curry College. Situated on a 135-acre wooded campus and only 7 miles from the downtown core of Boston, Curry College is a great location not only for its beauty but also for the safety and security that it provides for our Summer Camp. The campus is right next door to the Blue Hills natural reservation, which offers breathtaking views and many kinds of outdoor recreation opportunities. Our unique and careful interview process allows us to identify candidates who have the intelligence, compassion, skills and motivation to be successful. Every staff member, whether new or returning, arrives at camp early and has an extensive training period before your child arrives. We are committed to making a difference in your child s summer. Campers are divided into two age groups for all activities and classes: Juniors, ages 7-12 and Teens, ages 13-17 (18 in winter). Campers come from many countries including: Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Latvia, Turkey, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Canada and the USA. TAMW OOD FAC TS Tamwood Facts Campers living in residence enjoy 3 meals and an evening snack every day. Meals are served buffet style and campers can choose what they like. Vegetarian options are always available and other special diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Homestay hosts provide breakfast and dinner in the home and packed lunches on school days. Care and Safety Airport Transfers Tamwood cares for all of its campers as much as their parents do, and safety of all campers and staff is a top priority for Tamwood. Our carefully designed rules and procedures ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner. Also, all equipment is checked regularly to ensure that it is in safe working condition. Campers are met at the airport by Tamwood staff and taken by bus to the campus. Transfers are provided free of charge for campers arriving and departing on Sundays between 8:00 and 20:00. Airport transfers are provided at the following airports: YVR, Vancouver International Airport, SFO, San Francisco International Airport, LAX, Los Angeles International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport.
