BRATISLAVA and its urban development along the river Danube Conference about urban development along the Danube 6. May 2010, Palace of Arts, Budapest

Content Plans and Programs in Bratislava Spatial Plan of the city Development Areas along Danube Danube related Projects Project Ideas

Danube in Strategies, Programs and Plans Strategy of city development (1998) strategic goal of urban conception: To accentuate the character of Bratislava as a city on the Danube: To finalize the left-bank part of the city center (area under the castle, waterfront promenade and Pribinova street) To compose the right-bank part as an equal part of the city center To connect the waterfronts on both banks of the river To increase the attractiveness of the waterfronts strategic goal of nature protection: To protect specific values in Danube alluvium and Danube arms Economic and social development Program (will be finished in 06/2010) Spatial plan (2007, 1. update in 2008, 2nd running)

Spatial Plan Basic instrument for spatial planning in the city One of the most important missions is the to define the land use and regulate it The river Danube plays an important role in following topics: Nature protection Sport and leisure Transport Flood protection Urban conception of the city

Nature Protection Next to the Little Carpathian Mountains, Danube alluvial plains are another important protected landscape areas This protected Area consists of floodplain forests on both banks of the river in the southern part of the city

Sport and leisure Water-sport center Čunovo Whitewater channel for rafting and canoeing since 1995 Plans for the future: Passenger port, Yacht marine, Hotels, Camping place, Aqua park, Golf place... Jarovecké Arm Planned national center for flatwater canoeing and rowing

Transport Water transport: =the ecological way of transport, spatial reserve for cargo port enlargement For road and rail transport is Danube an obstacle, therefore: Spatial reserve for highway bridge (6th bridge over the Danube) Spatial Reserve for a railway tunnel (coming soon)

Flood Protection Nowadays, Bratislava is protected against a 1000 year floodwater with a system of dams and flood parapets Another possibility by reducing the floodwater is the extension of the river bed

Urban conception of the city The main goal is to bring the city closer to the river, which means: To complete/finalize the development areas on the left bank of the river as a part of a city center To compose the right bank as a part of the city center To finalize the waterfronts on both banks of the river and connect them

River Park Complex of 5 Buildings at the riverfront Consisting of apartments, hotel, office space and retail space Opening in Summer 2010 An often discussed project because of the buildings heights and volumes

Podhradie Podhradie means in Slovak under the castle An area between the castle of Bratislava and river Danube After the architectonical competition in 2007, the city prepared a zonal spatial plan for this area

Pribinova Street - Eurovea A new part of the city, former brownfield Historical building Storage Nr.7 reconstructed and adapted The first part called Eurovea opened few weeks ago: almost 30 000 sqm retail, leisure and entertainment place more than 24 000 sqm office place 235 flats + hotel new riverfront park, new river promenade, new public square

City-wide center Petržalka Undeveloped land, opposite to Eurovea The idea is to build an additional part of the city center, in connection with its counterpart on the left bank of the river The center is proposed to communicate with its counterpart (Eurovea) It is a mix of housing, retail space and office space The city prepared a zonal spatial plan for this area

New Lido Inundation area south to the city center Petržalka, consisting of artificial water areas and arms Main part: An artificial lagoon (1200 m) with an island (600 m) connected with a yacht marine in the south Main use: relaxation at the water

Jarovecké Arm Inundation Area of Danube, consisting of existing natural Arms and existing artificial lake Zemník (2 km long) An area for relax, sport and tourism Main object: National Olympic center for rowing and canoeing Additional objects: center for athletics, aquapark...

Rameno/Arm The Idea is to restore former parts of Danube inland delta on the right bank of the river, close to the state border to Austria and Hungary This Idea has 2 Dimensions: Urbanization of an agricultural land, that was forbidden due to iron curtain, but is very close to the city center An additionally and effective flood protection, no need to build higher flood parapets in the city

Rameno/Arm A possible deviation to Fertö tö/ Neusiedler See A challenging project, trilateral cooperation will be needed (Austria, Hungary, Slovakia = project, that can be solved in Danube strategy
