Oklahoma Airport Operators Association 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE April 29 - May 2 Hyatt Regency Tulsa 100 East 2nd Street Tulsa, OK
WELCOME WELCOME GREETINGS! Welcome to the 2018 Oklahoma Airport Operators Association (OAOA) Conference and to the amazing City of Tulsa! I would like to thank each of you for being here and contributing to the success of Oklahoma airports. 2017-2018 has been an incredible period for OAOA as we have worked in partnership with OAC and the FAA in order to educate not only ourselves, but our communities, city councils and even our own government as to the economic impact aviation and aerospace plays in the State of Oklahoma. Our mission has been to help promote the study focusing on the $44 billion in economic activity and 200,000 plus jobs aviation has created over the past few years. We believe in the importance of connecting airports with communities and businesses. Our goals this year have been to educate others on the significant contribution aviation and aerospace contributes to the Oklahoma economy, while trying to keep the appropriate amount of dollars coming in to support the airports. I believe we have succeeded in promoting and educating. Another endeavor was the first annual Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day. On December 9, 2017 representatives from all over Oklahoma gathered to celebrate Pearl Carter Scott. The goal was to congregate, celebrate, and commemorate this amazing woman and encourage future generations in the aviation and aerospace field. None of this would have been possible without the support and help of many people. I would like to sincerely thank and recognize this year s Board of Directors and committee members, a very special thanks to the OAC and all the city managers and airport boards that allowed many of the airport managers to attend classes, conferences and aviation events this year. We are not only colleagues, but a family who share a love of aviation. As always, OAOA will continue to support the advocacy of legislation to help airports receive more funding for improvements and maintenance projects in the State of Oklahoma. It has been such an honor to serve as this year s President. I ve made lifelong friendships and learned more about aviation and aerospace than I could have ever imaged. I hope you enjoy this year s conference! IN MEMORY OF WALTER RICK MULLANEY One of Oklahoma s most ardent aviation ambassadors has flown west. Rick Mullaney, former El Reno Regional Airport Manager, died March 25, 2018 near Hydro, Oklahoma, at the age of 62. He was manager during many airport improvement projects at El Reno, including runway reconstruction, extension, and lighting, taxiway widening and reconstruction, hangar development and more. Rick was a long-time OAOA member, serving as President for the 1999 Airports Conference in Norman. The conference theme that year was Taking Off To New Heights, something that Rick literally did at every opportunity. Rick also enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, talking with ham radio operators all over the world, new gadgets of all kinds, and he could fix anything, it seemed. He loved his family deeply and spoke of them often. But, it s been said that his greatest passion was flying. Following many airport board meetings, no matter how late they may have ended, Rick would ask anyone who lingered if they wanted to go flying and many accepted his invitations. Following the dissolution of the El Reno Airport Trust Authority a few years ago, Rick enthusiastically pursued a new career as an oil and gas landman. His ready smile and friendly greetings became familiar to many in courthouses around Oklahoma as he went about his business. Last year he fought a vicious battle with cancer and won. Rick s was a life well lived. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife Sharon, his sons Walter and R. J., his daughters Jaclyn and DeAnna, and his grandchildren Jack and Boen. May he rest in peace. 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
