The Monthly Newsletter of The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club January 2013 Visit us at www.thecfmdc.com Greetings From Club President Alan James HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone at the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club and your families! Hopefully this year will bring good health, good friends, and good cheer to all of us! I want to use this newsletter to help introduce new members to some of the things we do at the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club. By becoming an active member of the club, you have the opportunity to hone your skills, enjoy club outings, have some friendly competition and meet a lot of really great people! January s monthly club meeting offers a chance for you to vote for your favorite find of the year. Each member that won a first place position in any category on the finds table last year should bring in those same first place winners to compete again for the Find of the Year. This is for all 1 st place winners in all categories last year. These will be displayed at the back of the room. In addition, the normal finds table will be up and running also. This monthly table will consist of finds which came out of the ground between the November meeting and the January meeting since there was no finds table in December. Remember the items placed on the table must have been found BY USING YOUR DETECTOR in order to qualify for placement in the evenings vote. Interesting items found any other way MUST be placed in the Odds & Ends or Display section of the table. Because the point system currently being used requires a great deal of accurate tracking, please be sure to fill out both the monthly finds form and the finds table form so that you get proper credit for items placed on the tables. Both of these forms can be found on the club website at www.thecfmdc.com. This is the point system used to determine the Hunter of the Year. 1 st place = 4 pts.; 2 nd place = 3 pts.; 3 rd place = 2 pts.; and all other entries = 1 point. Point tracking is up to each of you to verify and turn in before the end of the meeting each month. As a new member, please bring in your finds & ask someone to show you how to display your recent finds on the table along with all of the other entries. You can t win if you don t enter. Our second annual Member Appreciation Hunt will be held at 9:30AM on Saturday January 19 th at Wilson Lake Park. This hunt is free to all active members. This includes all new members! More details will be discussed at the meeting. Review the Calendar-of-Events on the website and plan ahead so you don t miss out on any of the fun. This site is updated as necessary so check it out often and stay informed. Get involved, stay involved, learn & have fun! See you at the next meeting, - Alan
