Victims of the earthquake On March 31 st more than 11,532 people are confirmed dead and about 16,441 people missing. Accurate number of death will be more greater. 161,597 houses are destroyed.

Fuel shortage Damages of oil factories, interruptions of road traffic and halts of other transport modes created a fuel shortage. Traffic restoration of road transport is progressing, therefore a capacity for oil supply is gradually recovering. Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant Reactors themselves were stopped automatically just after the earthquake. But coolant systems are damaged. Personels and officials are tackling the crisis very hard. Due to shutdown of Fukushima plant, rolling blackouts are implemented mainly in the Metropolitan area.

Summary Aftershocks are occurring even now, but frequency is decreasing. On March 29 th, main road network for logistics was almost recovered. The ministry referred to the importance and necessity of road network development to ensure the safety of citizens.
