SAMPLE ITINERARY JAPAN PERFORMANCE TOUR (itinerary subject to change) DAY ONE: KYOTO ARRIVAL (D) Arrive into Osaka, collect your luggage and move through customs and immigration. Meet your local Japanese Tour Manager and load the coach. Depart for Kyoto. Beyond the nondescript high-rises around Kyoto Station hides the Japan of your imagination: a place where you'll see geisha glide past 17th-century teahouses in Gion's narrow alleys; where you can imagine the lives of court nobility at the Imperial Palace; where you can seek contemplation in Ryoanji's Zen rock gardens and under billowing cherry trees on the Philosopher's Path. If Tokyo is the door to Japan's future, Kyoto is a window on its mysterious past. Afterwards, transfer and check-in to a local hotel. Dinner as a group at a local restaurant, and the rest of the evening is free for an early night. DAY TWO: KYOTO / SHIGA PREFECTURE (B,D) Performance #1 This morning enjoy a visit to the Kyoto Handicraft Center your chance to enjoy demonstrations of Japanese traditional arts and crafts and a fabulous place to shop for authentic Japanese souvenirs and gifts. Lunch on your own in Kyoto. Load the coach and transfer to a venue in the Shiga Prefecture (TBC either Azuchi or Takashima City). Arrive, setup and rehearse in this evening s venue. Dinner as a group at a local restaurant or a box dinner will be supplied at the venue. Performance at a local venue in the Shiga Prefecture (TBC) in conjunction with a local ensemble. Following the concert, pack up and return to the hotel in Kyoto.

DAY THREE: KYOTO (B) Depart on a full day of sightseeing around Kyoto. First you will visit the Kyomizu Temple. Kiyomizudera (literally "Pure Water Temple") is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall's pure waters. In 1994, the temple was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Later this morning, visit the Heian Shrine. Heian shrine was built on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the capital's foundation in Kyoto and is dedicated to the spirits of the first and last emperors who reigned from the city, Emperor Kammu (737-806) and Emperor Komei (1831-1867). Heian is the former name of Kyoto. Lunch on your own in Kyoto. After lunch, enjoy a visit to Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion). Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond, and is the only building left of Yoshimitsu's former retirement complex. Dinner on own in Kyoto and return to the hotel.

DAY FOUR: KYOTO TOKYO (B,D) Performance #2 Check-out of the hotel and transfer to the Kyoto Train Station. Depart on the Shinkansen (bullet train) for Tokyo (approx. 2.5 hour train ride). The capital of Japan and the world s most populous megalopolis, Tokyo's kaleidoscopic lights, crush of humanity and sheer scale can be overwhelming for first-timers. Yet linger a while and you'll almost certainly encounter the serene side of traditional Japan. Discover graceful tea ceremonies and traditional gardens, a world apart from skyscraper-dotted Shinjuku or trendobsessed Harajuku. Arrive into Tokyo Station and board the coach. Depart for the area of Tokyo known as Asakusa where you will have free time for lunch on your own. Asakusas is an ancient area of Tokyo whose main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries. Transfer to a local Tokyo area high school (TBC). Upon arrival, meet with your hosts and setup for a rehearsal. Exchange rehearsal with your high school hosts. Afterwards, enjoy a Welcome Party / Dinner hosted by the school. This will be a chance to meet all of the host students and families and exchange gifts. Performance at a local Tokyo area high school (TBC). This concert will be shared with your hosts. Afterwards, say goodbye to your hosts and transfer/check-in to a local area hotel. DAY FIVE: TOKYO (B) Performance #3 After breakfast, load the coach and depart for a visit to Shibuya a shopping and eating district popular with a lot of young Tokyoites. Shibuya deserves a prize as the district with more two-story televisions than any other area in the world. Late Lunch on your own in the area. Transfer to a local venue in the Tokyo area (TBC possibly a university or community hall). Group rehearsal at tonight s venue. Performance at a local venue in Tokyo (TBC). This concert may be shared with a local ensemble. Following the concert, pack up and return to the hotel. En route, stop for dinner on own at a food court. Arrive back at the hotel.

DAY SIX: TOKYO (B,D) Following breakfast, load the coach and depart for the Harajuku area. Upon arrival, enjoy a visit to the Meiji Jungu Shrine. Meiji Jingu is the Shinto shrine that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. After the emperor's death in 1912, the Japanese Diet passed a resolution to commemorate his role in the Meiji Restoration. An iris garden in an area of Tokyo where Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken had been known to visit was chosen as the building's location. Lunch on own in Harajuku followed by time to explore. Harajuku refers to the area around Tokyo's Harajuku Station, which is between Shinjuku and Shibuya on the Yamanote Line. It is the center of Japan's most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles but also offers shopping for adults and some historic sights. Afterwards, load the coach and transfer to the Ginza district where you will have time to explore.. The Ginza is Tokyo's most famous upmarket shopping, dining and entertainment district, featuring numerous department stores, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, night clubs and cafés. One square meter of land in the district's center is worth over ten million yen, making it one of the most expensive real estate in Japan. Farewell Dinner as a group at a local restaurant then return to the hotel. DAY SEVEN: TOKYO DEPARTURE (B) Check-out of the hotel and transfer to a Tokyo area airport. Arrive at a Tokyo area airport and check-in for your flights. Depart Tokyo. WELCOME HOME!!
