October 2013 Page 2 Editor s Corner Fall driving season is here, with cooler temperatures, makes a great time to put some miles on your Studebaker. We had another great time in Custer, South Dakota for the annual Dakota Chapter Labor Day Weekend Event LDWE. There were members of the Conestoga, Western Wheels and Wyoming Chapters present. The Dakota Chapter does an excellent job every Labor Day weekend organizing this event that includes a driving tour of the beautiful Black Hills. If you have never attended, put this event on your calendar for next Labor Day. The Conestoga Chapter will be meeting at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery on Sunday, October 27th at 10.00am. This will include a tour of the brewery and guaranteed good time. Check the Looking Ahead page for more details on this and other upcoming events. Rick Wyoming Chapter members Jim & Leslea Rapp along with Bruce Berst made the trip to Custer, South Dakota

Western Outlook October 2013 Page 3 The Conestoga Chapter held their Annual Color Tour on Saturday September 28. We met at The Fort Restaurant in Morrison. We found out after the last Western Outlook went out that Squaw Pass had several miles of road construction, so we took 285 to Fairplay then Hwy 9 on to Frisco. There were 3 Studebakers, Rex and Christoff in a 51 Champion, Leroy and Vickie Andrews in a 63 Lark Cruiser, Shirley and Roger Zaner in a 57 President. Others present in Brand X were Margie Grauberger with her friend Zoie and Jim, Phil and Marilyn Scott, Sheila and Joe Rink, Ray and Catherine Petros, Maxine and Joann Belt. Tom and Beverly Wheeler were wonderful hosts for this event. Tom also had his 1917 parked in the driveway. The colors were just wonderful along the way and the weather could not have been any better. Clear blue sky with some snow on the higher peaks. The BBQ Tom and Beverly served was very good and all the delicious dishes the others brought to compliment. We had a short business meeting. I gave a brief summary of the Car Council Swap Meet. The club was presented a check for $50 for the work that Mom and myself did with the registration trailer. There were over 800 vehicles in the car show. They are planning on next year. Also discussed was the possibility of hosting a Zone Meet in 2015. After some discussion those present decided to host the Zone Meet in 2015. There will be more discussion and Committee assignments at the November Thanksgiving Meeting November 17 at 1 pm. The October 27 meeting is touring the Anheuser Bush Brewery in Ft Collins. We will meet at the King Soopers in Thornton on 104th and Washington at 8:00 am. Hope to see everyone there. This sound like a great outing. Roger Long time Conestoga member Estella McLean, wife of Don McLean has passed away. Services were held at the Green Mountain United Methodist Church. A flower arrangement was sent by the Conestoga Chapter.

Western Outlook October 2013 Page 4 WESTERN WHEELS NEWS Our regular monthly meeting was on Drive Your Studebaker Day. We met at the Chimney Rock Visitor s Center near Bayard, NE and toured it then drove to Bridgeport to eat at the Steel Grille. Members present were Loren & Valerie Hoekema; Perry, Jackie & Corina Meyers; Mary Miller; Wanda Mowry; Dallas & Lucille Whiting; and Stuart Tritt. Our members the Steinwarts were not able to make it because Don is under the weather. We hope he has a speedy recovery. On September 28 a few brave souls headed to Kimball on the chilly morning for the Farmers Day Parade and Car Show. Mary Miller volunteered her convertible to take some dignitaries and Perry & Jackie Meyers took their 42 M15 Tow Truck. I entered the club in the parade and the only car as a Club Car would have been Perry with the tow truck. Since I was tied up at the car show I quickly cleaned my Avanti and had Jackie drive it in the parade. With two vehicles as the Western Wheels Chapter, we still managed a 2nd place in the antique vehicle category. Perry managed to win a Top 30 awards at the car show also. A few of us will be entering the Car Show in the Sidney Oktoberfest show on Oct. 5th. Our October meeting will be on the 12th and the plan is to go visit Emil Weyerts collection in Gurley, NE then eat at the Gurley Café. Mary Miller is in charge of the meeting. Our tentative November meeting will be on the 9th and Loren Hoekema is in charge. The plan is to visit Brian Franks car collection in Scottsbluff, then eat at the King Table Chinese restaurant.
