Edict of Nantes in 1598. In order to end 36 years of civil wars between Catholics and Protestants, Henri IV signed the famous Edict of Nantes in the Breton capital. This text gave freedom of conscience to the Protestants and guaranteed their civil and political rights. One of the first International Ports 18th 19th Century: a gateway to America. Saint-Nazaire is specialized in the assembly, the equipment and the tests of the fuselages before and exchanges of the Airbus like in the realization of the elementary parts necessary to these operations. Shipyard Aker Yards Aker Yards ASA is an international shipbuilding group focusing on sophisticated vessels and being one of the world's largest shipbuilders. The industrial heritage - industrial site visits The Factory Beghin Say Located in Nantes on the island of Beaulieu, the factory Beghin Say produces 600 tons of sugar per day and employs approximately 200 people. In the years when the harbour activity of Nantes was intense, the industry of sugar occupied a very important place in the economic development of the city. Belonging today to the Tereos group, the Beghin-Say factory of Nantes was built in 1935 and remains the last cane sugar refinery to be built in France.
