Zacatecas Profile of the City Location The state of Zacatecas is located in the central-north part of the Republic, 376 miles from México City, and is surrounded by the states of: Jalisco, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Coahuila and Durango. It has an area of 28,973 sq.miles, and is divided into 58 municipalities. Air Transportation Zacatecas is served by a de Aviación Climate Dry weather predominates generally, although in the southern areas one can enjoy a more magnanimous weather as it fluctuates between temperate and sub humid. Apart from regional exceptions, the annual average temperature is 61 F, with the months of November and January being the coldest and although rain isn t abundant in this state, the rainy season is from June to September. 1 2 Tourism Population According to the last census reports (2000) of the INEGI, the state has a population of 1,354,000 inhabitants, the majority of which are found in the municipalities of: Zacatecas (124,000), Guadalupe (109,000), Fresnillo (184,000), Jeréz (55,000), Sombrerete (62,000) and Río Grande (60,000).
