July 4 th Independence Day Fly Your Flag The Statue of Liberty Facts: The Statue of Liberty was built in Paris, France, and given to the United States as a symbol of Friendship. It was shipped in 214 crates to New York in 1885 and dedicated in 1886. It is located on Liberty Island off the coast of New York City in New York Harbor. The Statue of Liberty is 151 feet tall from the base to the tip of the flame, including the pedestal, it s 305 feet tall. That is the height of a 22-story building. The Statue of Liberty was not always green. It is made out of copper, and over the years the color has changed due to oxidation (A chemical reaction between metal and water). Lady Liberty is holding a torch and a tablet. The tablet reads:, July IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776) From 1886 to 1902, the statue served as a lighthouse for incoming ships. More than 4 million people visit the landmark each year. By: Clay Swartz Boys Life Magazine 7/2015 HONESTY: The trite saying that Honesty is the best policy has met with the just criticisms, that honesty is not a policy. The real honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy. Robert E. Lee Being entirely honest with one s self is a good exercise. Sigmund Freud Showing this principle is greater than teaching it. An honest boy is a Trustworthy young man. AjSacre Share your definition:.
