Enjoy the Italian Opera by visiting the beautiful theatres in Venice, Ferrara, Mantua but also experiencing an Opera live performed in the spectacular Arena di Verona!!! Saturday, Day 1 VERONA Guests are met at the designated meeting point on Saturday and transferred to Verona. The check in in hotel will be followed by a guided visit to AMO (Arena MuseOpera), which introduces you to the art of the Opera through over 30 rooms. Let s have our first Italian Dinner together at Amo Opera Restaurant and enter the Roman Arena to watch an Opera live!!! This year we chose for you Carmen by Bizet on 25. August 2018 but you can ask for a charter and for other operas! After the show we will take you to the hotel to spend a night in Giulietta s city and have nice dreams full of music and arias! 1
Sunday, Day 2 VERONA and MANTUA After breakfast we will enjoy a guided tour of Verona city centre before being transferred to La Bella Vita. A Prosecco welcome gives you a chance to meet the crew, followed by the visit to the 14th century Ducal Palace housing some 15 gardens and courtyards, a museum, basilica, theatre and some 500 rooms. Let s finish the visit by admiring the Teatro Bibiena: it is the most beautiful example of a baroque theatre in Italy. This small jewel with a unique bell-like plan was honourably inaugurated in the year 1770 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Monday, Day 3 MANTUA - GOVERNOLO Guided tour of the city centre of Mantua: let s find Rigoletto s House, named for for the bronze statue of the court jester created by Giuseppe Verdi in the famous Opera. The melodrama, first performed in 1851 is set in Mantua at the time of Duke Vincenzo Gonzaga. This house and the killer s inn Sparafucile (a real 16 th century fortress on the shore of the lake) make Mantua the city of RIGOLETTO. Lunch on board and some free time before an afternoon navigation from the lakes sorrounding Mantua to Governolo. Tuesday, Day 4 GOVERNOLO TO ZELO Morning cruise to Zelo past villages and farmsteads. This afternoon we take a guided tour of the Renaissance city of Ferrara, including a view of the 14thC Estense Castle with its moat, drawbridges, marble balconies and the visit to Teatro Comunale, very important opera house, and the very pretty Camerino delle Duchesse where the wellknown concerto delle donne at the Estensi Court in 16 century developed. We also see the cathedral façade with its sculpted images described as an illustrated Bible. Return to the barge for dinner and are you ready for a musical surprise on board? 2
Wednesday, Day 5 ZELO TO TAGLIO DI PO Morning visit to the magnificient Renaissance gardens and wine cellars of 17thC Villa Widmann-Borletti for a private tasting of their renowned estate grown vintages. This winery has been supplying Venetian society for centuries. Afternoon cruise downstream entering the Po River to our peaceful mooring place at taglio di Po. This evening we will have dinner ashore hosted by the owners at the beautiful 17 th C Villa Ca Zen, a private stately home by the river where Lord Byron courted the Countess Giuccioli and wrote some of his best poetry. Overnight on board. Thursday, Day 6 TAGLIO DI PO TO SAN PIETRO IN VOLTA Morning cruise to Porto Levante, passing through a nature reserve with flamingos and occasional heron, snipe and other wildfowl. Guided tour of to the very ancient city of Chioggia admiring the Cathedral, Piazzetta Vigo and to the colourful fresh fish market. Do you need something? On Thursday there s a very big market in Chioggia covering all the city centre!!! After lunch on board we cruise north to Pellestrina and we have the chance to stroll or cycle along the 18th century Istrian sea wall looking out over the mighty Adriatic or back to the Venetian lagoon. Friday, Day 7 SAN PIETRO IN VOLTA TO VENICE Our final cruise takes us to Venice passing several lagoon islands with their coloured houses or ancient monastries. Mooring on the waterfront outside the Naval Museum near St Marks we make a guided tour of the Doge s Palace in the morning and of Gran Teatro La Fenice after a buffet lunch on board. Saturday, Day 8 VENICE After breakfast passengers disembark for the transfers to P.le Roma or Htl. Laguna Palace.
