The Monthly Newsletter of The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club September 2014 From The President s Desk By Alan James Over the past few months, many of the Central Florida Metal Detecting club members had the opportunity to search a nearby area we refer to as Old Town. This six block street project provided hours of fun and more than a few fantastic finds. Mid 1800 s coins became commonplace finds and relics tumbled out almost every day. Many of us were able to find silver on a fairly regular basis along with Indian head pennies, V nickels, seated dimes, and various other old coins. This is what our hobby is all about. Going out and discovering a new area in which to do a little detecting is part of what drives us all. We enjoy spending time searching our own secret place whenever possible. Being the first one at a new site starts the blood pumping as we take a few test swings. But sharing our finds with others is the icing on the cake! A huge part of this hobby is finding good friends to share our excitement with as many of us have done down in Old Town. The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club is indeed fortunate to have such a great bunch of hobbyists to share with. because of the fact that we each respected the active work zones, we were welcome to hunt almost anytime as long as we stayed clear of construction. This says a lot about our club members. Very few active construction sites would allow detectorists access. Congratulations to each of you for representing the club well. Sadly, this street project has come to a close. The street looks great and the landscaping is first class. Any small treasure that may have been left will likely remain undetected for many years. This new brick lined street will lay and wait for the next big remodel before giving up anything more. So we will all begin searching again for our own special hunt site and hopefully we ll find another equally productive area in the future. On Saturday, September 20 th the CFMDC will hold another night hunt at Sunsplash Park in Daytona Beach. This hunt will begin a dusk (8:30 PM or so). The cost for this event will be $5.00/ hunter. Prizes will be awarded after the event. It s still hot out so bring plenty of water! At the September meeting, the club will hold our annual auction so bring lots of one dollar bills and also bring anything (good condition) you want to donate for the auction. The money taken in during the auction is generally used in an upcoming club event. More details to follow. See you at the next meeting! Alan The members of the CFMDC became friends with many of the workers on the site and
