SWISS Proposals SJU Large Scale Demonstration Timeline 2014-2016 Eric Nantier, Operations Research and ATM, May 2014 1
Input for all projects Financial SESAR JU supports the project with 50% of the total costs. SWISS offers Middle size airline: Allows the necessary flexibility to perform the tests and validation exercises. Flight analysis: Complete flight data analysis of following parameters needed (same than GREENER WAVE and FAIRSTREAM): 4D Position (Lat, Lon, Alt, Time) Fuel-burned Ground Track Distance Wind Final Report contains only consolidate data without direct link to specific flight. All flights with event are excluded of the demonstration ATM PCP- SESAR: Competence in different work-package 2
istream (5.94mio, SWISS 471k ) Not too many carriers involved Moderate traffic volume Use of experience and tools from «the Greener Wave» and FAIRSTREAM SESAR projects Partners: DSNA, ADP, Air France, Airport Zurich, Lufthansa, SWISS, Skyguide, open for other airlines (Thai Airways, Oman Airways) Dynamic steering of early morning arrivals in LSZH with TTAs according user preferences (dependent on flight time (Wx), STA, connections etc.) Integration of longhaul and shorthaul flights Integration of all carriers in flow From «first come, first serve» to TTA based sequence Optimization and best use of capacity after night ban AF: ATM Functionality Links to SESAR/Pilot Common Project: AF#1 (extended AMAN) AF#4 (network collaborative management) AF#6 (initial trajectory Information sharing (towards i4d) User driven prioritization process (UDPP) Benefits for SWISS during the project: Elimination of holdings, CO 2 reduction, noise reduction, fuel savings, predictability, optimized passenger connections Positives results during the demonstration and possibility to continue after the project 3
Optimised Descent Profiles (4.04mio, SWISS 499k ) All ZRH approach airways are impacted (GVA, BSL, FRA, MUC, STR are also part of the project). Effects on Capacity shall be carefully studied (only off-peak traffic otherwise possible lost of landing rates) Partners: DFS, Air France, Austrocontrol, DLH, DSNA, Eurocontrol, Skyguide, SWISS Demonstrate the potential to reduce the frequency of Early Descents in high-density airspace by offering new routing options for Cross-Border Descent Approaches which shall provide an improved balance between Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability on one side and Capacity on the other. Links to SESAR/Pilot Common Project: WP 05.06.02 QM2 Improving Vertical Profile WP 05.06.07 QM-7 Integrated Sequence Building/Optimisation of Queues WP 07.05.02 Advanced Flexible Use of Airspace (comprising Free Route), OFA 02.01.01 Optimised 2D/3D Routes, and OFA 03.01.03 Free Routing. OFA 04.01.02 AMAN and Extended AMAN horizon. Benefits for SWISS during the project : CO 2 reduction, noise reduction, fuel savings Positives results during the demonstration and possibility to continue after the project 4
Free Route (5.33mio, SWISS 294k ) Participating Airspaces: Germany, Italy, France, Malta and Switzerland Only En-Route phase is considered during planning and in flight Partners: ENAV, Skyguide, DFS, DSNA, MATS, Eurocontrol, Air France, Lufthansa, SWISS, Ryanair and Alitalia Links to Pilot Common Project: Improving flight efficiency by proposing DCTs and shorten cuts, when possible, over a wide geographic area including AOR of different countries and multiple FAB AF#3 (Flexible Airspace Management and Free Route) AF#4 (network collaborative management) Benefits for SWISS during the project : CO 2 reduction, fuel and time savings Use of restricted Airspace Positives results during the demonstration and possibility to continue after the project 5
Advanced Approaches for all Airports (7.65Mio, SWISS 71k ) Only demonstration flights with GBAS (GLS) equipped Aircraft in ZRH and most probably FRA (use of revenue flights) Only during off-peak traffic when weather conditions permits, dedicated crews Partners: Netjets, Airbus, ANS, Dassault, DFS, DLR, DSNA, EBBA, Elbit Systems, Fraport, Honeywell, Lufthansa, Skyguide, SWISS and Zürich Airport Improve the access of business aviation as well as mainline users to all types of European airports, in particular in low visibility conditions. The types of airports include small/medium size without landing aids found at larger airports, as well as larger airports with such additional landing aids. The technology used within the particular work package of interest for SWISS will be GBAS and RNP. Demonstrated procedures will be GLS straight in approach (3,2 ) and RNP to GLS approach. Links to Pilot Common Project: AF#1 (extended AMAN and PBN in high density TMAs) Benefits for SWISS during the project : Identify benefits of GBAS for advanced operations respecting political constraints. 6
