Journey SPIRITUAL RETREAT SUMMIT SPIRITUAL LIFE CAMP : TEXAS CREEK, COLORADO JUNE 10-17, 2018 $650 P/PERSON TRIP DETAILS & REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you ll recover your life. I ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you ll learn to live freely and lightly. -Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG) For the past several years, the students of Summit have committed to fulfilling the greatest commandment: to love your neighbor. We ve taken on Jesus mission to love people by sharing the message of the gospel with them as well as meeting their physical needs whether it be by serving them food or helping them rebuild their homes. We ve partnered with God in his mission and made it our own with these annual mission trips. But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness to pray (Luke 5:16) And that is why one week this summer, we are going to unplug from the world around us and retreat to the mountains of Colorado where we will focus completely on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus states that he is the way the truth and the life. This summer, it is our goal to experience that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Our goal is to take this statement from a truth we know and agree with to a reality that we live in. This summer s trip is about breaking free from the religious expectations we so often feel burdened with and to rest in the knowledge that Jesus calls us to himself. Not an empty religion, but a fulfilling relationship with a real person. Journey is about rejuvenating our faith in Jesus. This summer, we will be heading to the mountains of Colorado for a rustic week-long adventure camp with Journey Quest (www.journeyquest.org). We will talk about trust in God as we rock climb a vertical face and rappel down it afterword. We will discuss our faith in Jesus to calm storms and sustain us in trouble as we white water raft down the Arkansas river. We will talk about Jesus love for us as we hike into the mountains to pray. There s a second part of the greatest commandment: love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. That is this year s Journey.

THE DETAILS Cost: Dates: Location: Activities: Group: Registration: $650/student Saturday June 10th - Saturday June 17th Texas Creek Colorado: Sweetwater River Ranch Whitewater rafting, rock climbing & rappelling, inflatable kayaking, hiking Journey Quest: journeyquest.org Registration form + security deposit = completed registration trip. Registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Incomplete registrations will not be accepted *if you cannot pay full deposit amount, please contact Mike* STAY IN THE KNOW In this packet you ll find answers to many of the common questions. As we get closer to the departure date, more details will be released. The best way to stay up to date is to sign up for our weekly newsletter called esummit. If you don t already receive, indicate on the registration form. TRANSPORTATION We will be renting 15 passenger vans and driving from Geneva to Texas Creek. We will stop overnight (likely with another church) in Nebraska on the evening of June 10th. On the way back we will be staying overnight in a hotel in Nebraska on June 17th. Exact overnight locations will be announced in the Survival Guide six weeks prior to departure. YES, WE WILL BE CAMPING In tents. Without electricity too. Journey Quest provides all tents and camping gear (excluding sleeping bags - more on what to pack in the packing list which will be announced in the survival guide.) Our camping location will be in Sweetwater River Ranch which is located in Texas Creek, Colorado www.sweetwaterriverranch.com. There are showers available, as well as bathrooms with running water and toilets that flush. However, some locations will be without plumbing, so prepare yourself for the occasional outhouse. But, this is full-blown camping. Meaning that there is nowhere to plug in your iphone. Or ipod. Or anything else that needs a plug. So, plan accordingly. MEALS Journey Quest provides a hot breakfast and dinner with a packed lunch during the day. All meals are provided Monday evening through Saturday morning. The food is prepared and served buffet style at our camping location. Your students will be responsible for food during travel days.

MEET JOURNEY QUEST Journey Quest is a Christian wilderness ministry based out of Colorado s Arkansas River Valley and offering customized, Christ-centered wilderness adventures for youth, families, and groups. Our goal is to glorify God while sharing the hope of his Gospel with all who come on our trips. Our mission: To provide Christ-centered wilderness journeys, challenging young and old alike to pursue the ultimate quest: a lifelong relationship with Christ. At Journey Quest we are passionate about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we hire our staff we look for men and women who love the Lord and will go out of their way to share that love with others. We believe that our staff make the difference in our ministry. Their heart for people is shown as they share their stories and truths from God s Word, as they serve by cooking meals and running activities, and, most importantly, as the seek out guests to pour into their lives. A great deal of time during our training is spent discussing analogies and how to creatively use them on trips to minister to groups. We hold a high standard of guide training and certification. Our staff exceed the guide requirements for the State of Colorado before we allow them to guide a trip. The safety of our guests is always our priority. THE ACTIVITIES We will be rock climbing & rappelling, white water rafting & inflatable kayaking and full-day hiking. These activities are meant to push you both physically and spiritually. They are physically demanding and you will be challenged to overcome mental obstacles all while learning about dependence on and faith in Jesus Christ. You do not need any experience in order to participate. These activities are all guided by well trained experts and are perfect for be-ginners and experienced adventurers as well. ROCK CLIMBING AND RAPPELLING The full-day rock-climbing adventure gives you a chance to try a variety of routes and build more climbing & rappelling skills WHITEWATER RAFTING AND KAYACKING True adventure begins on this incredible whitewater rafting experience as the canyon narrows and the rock walls tower 1000 feet above the Arkansas River FULL DAY HIKE to the Peak Ascent in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains WILL OTHER CHURCHES BE THERE? Just our Summit group. No other churches will be there the same week as us. However, depending on our group size, we may be split into two separate, groups alternating schedules.

DO I NEED SPECIAL GEAR? Yes, just a few items that are strongly recommended (which you likely already have at home). Things you should probably get if you don t already have them are a packable waterproof rain jacket, a couple of t-shirts that aren t 100% cotton, like quick drying athletic shirts or a surf tee and quick-drying shorts (to wear rafting), and wool blend hiking socks. A foam pad to put between the ground and your sleeping bag is a good idea. A complete packing list will be provided in the survival guide six weeks prior to departure. These are just a few items you may need to get. Journey Quest supplies the tents and cooking gear. CELL PHONES? You will have access to cell phones during travel days in the van. DEPENDING ON CELL SERVICE you will be allowed one hour of phone time Monday-Saturday evenings. However, this is a spiritual life retreat and the intention is to unplug from the world, so we ask that you adhere to the 1-hour rule. It goes without saying that is nowhere to plug phones in throughout the week, so if you intend on using it for that hour (again, depending on cell service) you will want to bring a portable charger. But I listen to music when I m falling asleep!!! Listen to nature. Crickets. The rushing of the river. That s better than music. Moms and Dads, Journey Quest has radios and phones in case of an emergency, these numbers will be provided for you in the Survival Guide six weeks prior to departure. one hour - HOW CAN I TAKE PICTURES?? Of course you ve gotta take pictures. You just have to. This is going to be a trip you ll want to remember forever. We will allow you to carry your phones for picture taking purposes ONLY. If you are caught texting, Snap Chatting, or whatever then we confiscate the phone. Also keep in mind that many of our activities will be in or on water, so take that into account as well. Rejoice will not be liable for lost or water damaged phones. Or bring a digital camera. Digital cameras can take pictures. Lots of them too. And many of them don t need chargers. Just batteries. Or a GoPro. A GoPro would be pretty awesome. WHAT DOES THE COST COVER The cost for the trip covers Journey Quest registration fees, gear rental (rafts, wetsuits, helmets, climbing gear) camp site fees, state park usage fees for hiking, food Monday-Saturday, van rental, gas, hotel costs, parking and tolls. Our cost does not cover the food you need to buy on travel days, earplugs to drown out your tent mate s snoring and things of that nature.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Here is the registration equation: Registration Form + Security Deposit = Completed Registration You will find a registration form on the last page of this packet. Please fill it out and secure it in an envelope so that your deposit and registration form don t part ways. A verbal commitment is not a registration! If for some reason you cannot afford the $100 security deposit, that s okay. Just contact mike@rejoicegeneva.org and notify him of that and he ll get you worked out. Like always, in order to avoid a large lump sum that comes in the week before we depart for Colorado there will be three major payment installations: $100 due April 26 th $275 due May 10 th $275 due May 31 st This helps us pay the upfront fees such as Journey Quest registration fees, park usage fees, as well as many upfront fees we encounter along the way. Beginning next month, you will receive a balance sheet stating what you ve paid so far and what you owe. You will see that the fundraising events you participate in will earn you a credit into your account that will take a portion of what you owe off the total. This brings us to the fundraisers... Journey THE FUN IN FUNDRAISING! Each year, Summit hosts two major fundraising events at Rejoice: The Rejoice Revue & The Easter Breakfast. Here are the skinny on each (more details announced in esummit): EASTER BREAKFAST - A big thanks to everyone who helped out on Easter Sunday! Those who helped will earn $$ towards their trip! REJOICE REVUE April 29th - An annual tradition at Rejoice is our No Talent Talent Show (talent not required). Like last year we will be serving dinner as well as the show. The dough from our goodwill offering be divided among those students who help with the event. For the event, students are divided into teams and given responsibilities that include table arrangement, set up/tear down, clean up, child care, stage set up/ tear down and everyone is asked to bring a dessert (brownies or cookies) to share. BUTTER BRAIDS April sometime (exact dates t.b.a.) - Butter Braids are braided pastries made with super quality ingredients. You cannot get them anywhere else and they are mouth wateringly delicious. How you make money is by selling Butter Braids to your friends and family. The more you sell the more you make (we ve had kids make over $200) and these things are easy to sell. PICK AN ENVELOPE - envelopes between $1-$125 will be available for those at Rejoice who are interested in partnering with our students. Their donation is 100% tax deductible, and all proceeds will be divided between those going to Colorado. Envelopes will be available beginning April 29th. MILL CREEK GARAGE SALE May 10-12 - Rejoice opens up to the neighborhood to provide bathrooms and sell lunch during the garage sales. You (or a parent) can work a shift (or two) and earn $$ towards your trip!

REGISTRATION FORM Please fill out the form below and place it in an envelope along with your $100 security deposit. Registrations are due by Thursday, April 27th. Please note that your security deposit is non-refundable after May 10th. Contact mike@rejoicegeneva.org with any questions or concerns.
