Notre Dame Cathedral - Notre Dame de Paris is the cathedral of the Catholic archdiocese of Paris. Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the fi nest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world. The name Notre Dame means Our Lady in French, and is frequently used in the names of Catholic church buildings in Francophone countries.
Take a comfortable ride down the highway skirting the Fountainebleau Forest and the vineyards of Burgundy to the Swiss border. Take in the Alps as you enter the spectacular city of Lucerne. Lucerne, Switzerland Thorvaldsen s Lion Monument (1819) commemorates the sacrifi ce of more than six hundred Swiss Guards who died defending the Tuileries during the French Revolution. The monument portrays a dying lion lying across broken symbols of the French monarchy. The sculpture was carved in a sandstone cliff above the city center. Chapel Bridge - This 670 ft long bridge crossing the Reuss River in the city of Lucerne is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe, and one of Switzerland s main tourist attractions. The covered bridge, constructed in 1333, was designed to help protect the city of Lucerne from attacks. Inside the bridge are a series of paintings from the 17th century, depicting events from Luzerne s history. Much of the bridge, and the majority of these paintings, were destroyed in a 1993 fi re, though it was quickly rebuilt.
