Gator Snow Ski & Activities Club Ski Trips GARMISCH, GERMANY (Florida Ski Council European Trip) March 8-14, 2014 Garmisch will be a fabulous European destination for the GATORS and the FSC. Turns out, Garmisch has it all. There is plenty of shopping to appease lookers and buyers with an abundance of restaurants and pubs mixed in. The full name of the area is Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In the Partenkirchen area, there is a pedestrian street named Ludwigstrasse that captures a feeling of authentic Bavaria. Upon arrival into Munich, we will visit Airbraeu (the 1 st Airport Brewery in the World) for breakfast. It will be a great way to start the trip. A 2010 report showed that Germany ranked second in the world terms of per-capita beer consumption. After breakfast, we will board our bus, head to Garmisch and arrive in less than 2 hours. Skiing: Access to skiing is within 15-20 minutes of our hotel using the ski bus or train. There two different ski areas. The Classic area is not huge but will provide adequate skiing for two full days. Garmisch s biggest ski draw is the Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany. It is accessed by a scenic cogwheel train or cable car and enjoyable in itself. The top views are fabulous. The top is a great option for skiers to say; I skied the tallest mountain in Germany and non-skiers to say, I was there, had lunch, drank beer and watched the skiers slide by. Hotels: Our lodging is a 4 star hotel with ample Bavarian flavor, an experience of genuine Bavarian ambiance. Bring your 220V adapters. A full breakfast at the hotel every day is included. Day Trips: Some day trips are close by. Tour and hike to the top of the Olympic Ski Jump. Walk through the Partnach Gorge, very impressive. The path is cut down inside the gorge and is very narrow in places. It is possible to arrive by horse drawn carriage and a nice restaurant is nearby for lunch. Both these are right in Garmisch. Other day trips by bus include Oberammergau, the Passion Play Theater, Ettal Monastery, King Ludwig s Linderhof Castle, Neuschwanstein, Munich and more. Non-skiers would have plenty to do with multiple options. Extension Trip Option: After visiting Bavaria, an optional trip to Berlin. Berlin ranks as one of the most visited cities in Europe. We will do a walking tour of the historical area including the Brandenburg Gate and Berlin wall, an excellent, concise history lesson. Also, walking tours to Check Point Charlie and the museum are a must for any visitor. There are countless museums and memorials in Berlin to give trippers numerous options. Many club members have never been to Berlin and will be excited to explore history that was made during their own lives. Berlin is both thought provoking, moving and changes one s perspective once you become more familiar with its past. Garmisch will be a great place to revive the Europe trips for the GATORS & FSC! Contact Trip Leader: Don Chalaire, 561-714-3528 donchal@comcast.net Congratulations to the new Officers for 2013-2014: President: Rich Wennet Vice President Ski Trips: Sheri Agnew Vice President Special Activities: Connie Flow Vice President Socials Betty Williams Treasurer: Walter Marussich Secretary: Tammy Walkoff Member At Large: Pam Strickland

The new officers said they want the members to have more free events (not sure what this means but I know I will be looking for free stuff!!) Also, look for more committee work, they hope to develop committees consisting of both board and non-board members to assist in all aspects of the clubs functions. They are also planning quarterly round-table discussions, hope you will participate. See you on the slopes!! For more information, please feel free to contact me directly at smfines@att.net.
