Gondan Shipyard: tailor-made shipbuilding Experience and the demonstrated ability to build all types of vessels without technological limitation Gondan Shipyard is a shipbuilder with nearly 90 years experience in the sector. Located in the Asturian Castropol district, north of Spain in the Cantabric Sea, the company has three shipyards in Figueras, Barres and Vegadeo. It is recognised by its ability to build any type of boat, without technological limits, but having the flexibility to incorporate improvements during the construction process to meet the needs of the shipowner and, furthermore, meeting the most strict quality standards. Gondan has the ability and experience to tackle all types of project, contributing its knowledge and know-how for the construction of any vessel required. It is orientated to meet customer s deadline requirements, thus building an excellent reputation. Leading international and national owners trust Gondan with repeat orders. This is particularly relevant in the offshore industry, where Gondan is world renowned, having built vessels that were pioneers in environmental protection or to work in very deep waters. The successful completion of oceanographic ships or research/training vessels demonstrates the capability of the yard to build specialised ships. This ability allows Gondan to compete in international markets, where much of its activity is orientated. Its staff is formed by highly qualified professionals, fully integrated and identified with the shipyard s philosophy. Being itself located in a protected environmental area underpins the need for efficiency and quality. Its facilities and processes are in compliance with the highest international standards. 1

Gondan Shipyard in figures 32,000 m 2 of facilities. 2 fitting berths of 185m and 150m. 2 building slipways for 110 and 80m in length. 200+ vessels built. Large production capacity (approx. 3,500 tons of steel per year). Experience in shipbuilding Several generations of the family of the current president, Álvaro Díaz Platero, have been devoted to shipbuilding. Over nearly 90 years, Gondan Shipyard has built around 200 vessels of many different types, for a large number of countries. Towards the end of the XIX century D. Francisco Díaz Fernández started building small boats for coastal fishing. 1925 His son, D. Francisco Díaz Martínez, (grandfather of current owner) founded the company at the present location and commenced building smallsized fishing vessels. 1969 The construction of steel hull vessels began. 1978 Export begins with the construction of 10 vessels for Senegal and inaugurated commercial contact with foreign shipowners. The 90s Incorporation of the most advanced equipment and shipbuilding techniques permitted access to international markets. 90s / 2000 Gondan Shipyard began working with the Quality Assurance, Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health management system, becoming pioneers in the Spanish shipbuilding industry to work under ISO certification. The Shipyard has combined its production capacity with respect to the natural and protected environment of the Ribadeo Estuary. 2014 Gondan Shipyard covers all phases of the construction process, and incorporates the most advanced equipment and technology available. 2

A local company in a global market Gondan Shipyard has signed contracts with shipowners worldwide Internationalisation is part of the essence of Gondan Shipyard business, working on five continents. In its long career it has built more than 200 vessels for 20 different countries. Especially sophisticated and competitive markets, such as the Norwegian, and countries like Philippines and Kenya, have ships built at Gondan. Over 90% of the order book involves foreign markets. Despite the large percentage of export activity, Gondan Shipyard maintains its national roots, ready to build the vessels that the home market may demand. 3

References World leaders Shipowners rely on Gondan Shipyard, including the Norwegian companies Simon Møkster Shipping and Østensjø Rederi or the Italian Fratelli Neri, together with Spanish owners and organizations. The Shipyard has pioneered the introduction of new technologies such as C + Blue Drive, the Drill Cutting Systems or the manoeuvring thrusters RIM Drive and, more recently, the Unified Bridge, an innovative solution which has been incorporated for the first time in Stril Luna, the Offshore Supply Vessel just delivered in August 2014 to Simon Møkster Shipping. Edda Ferd built by Gondan Shipyard, was awarded in 2013 as the most environmentally friendly in Europe as part of the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference. Currently, the Shipyard has a workload until 2016, in the following projects: Platform Supply Vessel, Stril Luna, which was recently delivered for Simon Møkster Shipping. She will become the first vessel of its kind with a Unified Bridge. Training vessel for the Marine Society & Sea Cadets, United Kingdom. The vessel can accommodate up to 24 cadets and students. The vessel will be delivered in summer 2015. Oceanographic ship for the Institute of Marine Research in Norway. It will be the replacement of the current research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen and will be designed to study biomass and seabed in joint missions with scientific institutions from other countries. It will be delivered in summer 2016. Second Platform Supply Vessel for Simon Møkster Shipping, numbered C- 461, building started on April 2014. PSV type vessel designed by Rolls Royce Marine (RRM). With 92m length, 20m beam, it will be delivered at the beginning of 2016. 4

A Shipyard with full building capacity Three working centres, located in Castropol (Asturias), are able to handle complete shipbuilding projects throughout Gondan Shipyard covers all stages of the shipbuilding process: conceptual design, basic design, detailed engineering, units fabrication, outfitting, piping, wiring, testing and sea trials, ensuring full control of the project in all its phases. Gondan Engineering. The technical department of Gondan Shipyard is a key element in the company operations, and is responsible for the detailed design and construction plans. This department is responsible, among other tasks, of the weight control during the construction, calculations of stability conditions for launching, and the approval of designs by the Classification Society and flag authorities. Three Work centres Gondan Shipyard has three work centres, located in the Asturian Castropol district on the Cantabric Sea in the north of Spain, based at Figueras, in the industrial area of Barres, and Vegadeo. Facilities in Figueras Figueras shipyard is the main Gondan s factory, where most of steel work, hull assembly, installations and outfitting are carried-out. Two slipways allow the construction of vessels up to 110m. In this factory are also located the Technical Office and the departments of Administration, Sales, Quality, Purchasing and HR. Facilities in Barres In the industrial area of Barres is located a workshop for steel cutting, as well as large stores of equipment and materials. Facilities in Vegadeo Here is located a new line of activity specialising in aluminium and fibre (GRP) construction. Workboats and patrol boats are built in the Vegadeo yard. 5

Vegadeo, aluminum and fibre solutions In the Vegadeo facilities Gondan has developed a new construction line for vessels in aluminium and GRP At Vegadeo Gondan has developed a new line of shipyard activity, called Working Boats, built in aluminium and fibreglass (GRP). This building line for vessels up to 35m in length, is designed to build patrol boats, workboats, fishing boats and yachts, built in polyester resins, vinyl ester and epoxy fibreglass, Kevlar and carbon, rolled by hand or with no atmospheric processes through moulds or "one-off" system. The new facility was specifically designed and built for this type of vessel. A warehouse of 2.000m2, of which 1.400m2 are fully thermally insulated and heated. It has a welding zone through fireproof partitions isolated and projectors resin and a vacuum pump for lamination by infusion. In addition, this plant has a temperature and humidity control installed. Recently, Gondan Shipyard has been awarded a contract by the Guardia Civil (Spanish Security forces) for the construction of two medium size patrol boats. They are designed and equipped for surveillance and to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration, in addition to the protection of the marine environment and other missions. Made of polyester, the craft have a total length of 20.9m and a beam of 5.0m. 6
