Western Mediterranean Cruise - Spain, France and Italy October 2 nd to 17 th, 2018 15 nights 16 days Summary Itinerary Tuesday, October 2 nd Day 1 Depart Canada Depart from your Maritime city on your overnight flight to Barcelona via Montreal or Toronto. Try and get some sleep before your morning arrival in Barcelona. A light meal and breakfast will be served on board the flight. Wednesday, October 3 rd Day 2 Hotel Transfer in Barcelona (L,D) Arrive at Barcelona airport and gather our luggage. Meet our local guide for a transfer to our hotel. Light lunch on arrival at the hotel. Balance of day is free to explore. Visit the Park Güell and get a jump on your Gaudi history or join a Hop-On Hop-Off tour to get a feel for the city. La Rambla, a popular pedestrian street, is an excellent place to wander, shop, and experience Spain. Try your best to stay up and busy to get adjusted to the time zone. Our Tour Director will have a planned activity (TBD) you can join on this day should you wish. Join the group tonight for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Hotel: Cristal Palace or similar (4 star) Thursday, October 4 th Day 3 Tour Barcelona (B, D) Enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast and meet your tour director. After breakfast, meet our private guide for a Classic Barcelona Tour. We will visit Plaça Catalunya, Via Laietana, the Cathedral and its cloister (outside), the Gothic Quarter, Plaça Sant Jaume (The administrative heart of the city with the Town Hall), Passeig de Gracia, to see Gaudi s famous buildings Casa Batllo and Casa Mila. Then we will visit the Sagrada Famila (inside) the jewel in the crown of Gaudí s works, the temple is a synthesis of his overall conception of architecture. If you wish, you can stay at the Sagrada Famila and savour the building for as long as you like. You can go up the towers by elevator and visit the crypt and museum and compare the contrasting styles of the Birth and Passion façades. Lunch on your own. Afternoon is free to explore on your own. Tonight our dinner is at a classic flamenco restaurant, Tablao de Carmen in Barcelona. Situated in Barcelona s Spanish Village, this famous 'tablao' (flamenco venue) showcases pure Andalucian flamenco by top artists. Experience a dazzling 1-hour show preceded by a special 3-course dinner. We will leave the hotel early so you can visit the Spanish Village, an open-air museum of replica Spanish buildings, squares and streets, so you can view its craft workshops, gardens, cafes and other attractions before arriving at the restaurant. Friday October 5 th Day 4 All aboard the Celebrity Eclipse (B) Enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast and meet your tour director. This morning we transfer to Barcelona Marine Station Cruise Terminal to board the Celebrity Eclipse. The ship sails at 5:00 pm so be sure to join your Tour Director and fellow passengers on top deck for sail away and then enjoy a group dinner in one of the main dining rooms. All group dinners on the cruise will be held at 6:15 pm. Saturday, October 6 th Day 5 Valencia, Spain 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Best known as the birthplace of paella, Valencia has steadily moved onto the radar of savvy travellers. It's a vibrant, friendly, mildly chaotic place with two outstanding fine-arts museums, an accessible old quarter, Europe's newest cultural and scientific complex and one of Spain's most exciting nightlife scenes. Whole sections of the old city, for example the Carmen Quarter, have been extensively renovated. One of the best spots for exploring Valencia's history is at the museum L'Almoina, which opened three years ago in the Carmen on the site where Valencia was founded by the Romans in 138 B.C. Sunday, October 7 th Day 6 Alicante, Spain 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Boasting some of the finest beaches in all of Spain, Alicante is the largest city on the Costa Blanca. Relax on the pristine sand of La Playa de San Juan, shop the Explanada de España and conquer the Castillo de Santa Barbara to see how Alicante achieves the perfect balance of history and modernity. Monday, October 8 th Day 7 Gibraltar, United Kingdom 11:00 am to 10:00 pm The great Rock of Gibraltar is a sight to behold. Made of limestone, it towers 1,400 feet above the mouth of the majestic Mediterranean Sea and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and a nature reserve. Wander the city centre or take a trip up the Rock by cable car and enjoy the views of Spain and Africa. You will probably encounter a local ape while you re there. Don t touch or feed them but they are happy to pose for pictures! Tuesday, October 9 th Day 8 Malaga, Spain 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Málaga is the gateway to the Andalusian countryside and the Costa del Sol, some of the region s most impressive beaches. Wednesday, October 10 th Day 9 At Sea This day is yours to do as much or as little as you like. Take a Celebrity ilearn class and bring your vacation photos to life. And of course, no trip to Marseille would be complete without tasting its most renowned dish - bouillabaisse. Friday, October 12 th Day 11 Nice (Villefranche), France 7:00 am to 6:00 pm This jewel of the French Riviera is home to some of the world s most luxurious hotels and terraced cafés. Stroll the ultra-famous Promenade des Anglais or see masterpieces by Matisse, Renoir, Monet and Chagall in one of Nice s many museums. The ship is likely to tender in this port but the tender boat ride into Villefranche is stunning. Saturday, October 13 th Day 12 Florence/Pisa (Livorno),Italy 7:00 am to 7:00 pm The beautiful Italian seaport of Livorno is the gateway to Florence, Pisa and Tuscany's vast wine country. Pisa is most noted for its famous marble bell tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which has tilted 14 feet since 1370. In Florence, you can see Ponte de Vechio, the Statue of David, and the Cathedral. It is also a wonderful city to wander around and get lost in the magic of Italy. Sunday, October 14 th Day 13 Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Civitavecchia was settled in 108 A.D. by the Emperor Trajan and has since served faithfully as a gateway to the capital of the Empire Rome. Once the center of the Ancient World from which emperors ruled over nearly all of western civilization, Rome is still a cultural mecca.
