Followed by interactive question and answer session Lunch at the Dominicana Restaurant Walking tour of the Old City o Plaza Vieja, the oldest plaza in Havana, dating from the 16th century. o Plaza de San Francisco, a cobbled plaza surrounded by buildings dating from the 18th century, dominated by the baroque Iglesia and Convento de San Francisco dating from 1719. o Plaza de la Catedral and The Catedral de San Cristóbal de La Habana. o Plaza de Armas - A scenic tree-lined plaza formerly at the center of influence in Cuba. o Palacio de los Capitanes Generales - The palace currently houses the Museo de la Ciudad and was the former residence of the Spanish Captains. o Castillo de la Real Fuerza - A massive fortress built between 1558 and 1577. DAY THREE Depart for Pinar del Rio o The western-most province, famous for its rich soil, tobacco production and spectacular scenery Receive a tour of the city center from local city historian, Paco Hernandez (Pending confirmation) Lunch at at Balcón del Valle Visit a tobacco farmer Visit a local community project for children- Granma Pioneril Evening Free DAY FOUR Driving tour of Mid-Century Modern Architecture with Eduardo Luis Rodriguez o Mr. Luis Rodriguez will lead us to several buildings, homes and sites to observe and discuss architecture from the era Visit to Cementerio Colon guided by historian Maritza Corrales o The cemetery, one of the oldest in the Americas, is lined with stunning architecture and beautiful views Enjoy a traditional Cuban lunch overlooking the Straits of Florida at the Hotel Nacional Visit to Museum of Regla Visit Callejón de Hamel o A neighborhood that has been converted into a cultural center rich in Afro-Cuba religion, art and dance. We will visit the home of a Babalao, (Yoruba Priestess) who will receive the group and explain the religious deities and elaborate alters in her home Visit to La Finca Vigía o Formerly the home of Ernest Hemingway, today it still houses his expansive collection of books. It was here where he wrote two of his most celebrated novels: For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea Drive to the picturesque fishing village of Cojimar o Ernest Hemingway loved this little town. Cuba Travel Agreement I, (print full name) am a participant in a program for educational and cultural exchange in Cuba with World Trade Center Tampa Bay (WTCTB) and agree: I acknowledge and understand that travel to foreign countries, including Cuba, may involve delays, change in itineraries, and limited access to some services. I acknowledge and understand that when in Cuba I am subject to the laws of their country and that the WTCTB cannot be held accountable for the actions of the Cuban government or their representatives. I acknowledge that travel in Cuba and use of transportation, housing, and other goods and services or activities in connection with travel carries some risk of personal injury and property damage and loss. I release and discharge the WTCTB, its officers, directors and representatives from liability, injury, a damage or loss arising out of the arrangements or provisions for transportation, housing, food or any other goods and services related to the tour of Cuba. I agree not to make a claim against the WTCTB or co-sponsoring organization (AIA Tampa Bay), directors, officers, and representatives, for liability, damage, or loss incurred during or in connection with the tour of Cuba. I understand that deposits are non-refundable as of 45 days prior to departure. In the event I am unable to travel, I understand that my $500 deposit may be put towards a future trip with the WTCTB taken within a one (1) calendar year. The full payment for the trip is non-refundable as of 35 days prior to the trip unless the WTCTB itself cancels the trip, in which case all monies collected will be forfeited less the deposit. I understand that the WTCTB recommends travel insurance. I acknowledge that the only items that may be purchased and returned legally to the United States are items that are educational and cultural in nature, such as art, literature, videos, and music. Tobacco and alcohol purchases are limited to $100 and all merchandise cannot exceed $400.
