MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST REGIONAL CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU OFFICIAL MINUTES AUGUST 26, 2014 The MS Gulf Coast Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau Commissioners met Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., at 2350 Beach Blvd, Suite A, Biloxi, MS 39531. Commissioners Present: Kim Fritz, president; Rich Westfall, vice president; Jimmie Ladner, treasurer; Jeff Descher, secretary; Danny Hansen; Bill Holmes; Jerry Levens; Duncan McKenzie; CeCe Shabazz; George Schloegel; Carla Todd; Clay Wagner Commissioners absent: Richard Chenoweth; Rip Daniels HCTC Staff Members Present: Renée Areng, executive director; Traci Dauro; Janice Jones, Internet/e marketing manager; Others Present: Hugh Keating, legal counsel; Linda Hornsby, MS Hotel & Lodging Assn; Myrna Green, HCTDB; Beverly Martin Burkholder and John Boyle, MS Hospitality & Rest Assn; Janice Jefferson, MCCCC; Rhonda Roberts, Attractions Assn; Jenna Weatherford, HC Beautification; Russ Bloom, David Lee, and Chris Altese, MCG Golf Assn; Courtney Haggerty, Candace Sutherland, Hilton Garden Inn; Kevin O Brien, Ohr-O Keefe Museum of Art President Fritz called the meeting to Order. 1. Commissioner Hansen made the motion to accept the agenda as presented. Seconded by Commissioner McKenzie, the president called the question, with the following results: 2. Commissioner Descher made the motion to approve the minutes as presented from the July 22, 2014 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Schloegel, the president called the question, with the following results: 3. Linda Hornsby, MS Hotel & Lodging Assn report the July 2014 hotel occupancy as presented from the Star report. Occupancy was up 2.2%, at 75.9% compared to the same time last year; ADR was $95.54 compared to $91.94; RevPAR is $72.52 compared to $68.27, so July looks like a good indicator for the remainder of the summer. The Assn has partnered with the MS GC Golf Assn, and will be working closely to increase golf rounds, and bookings. Vacation rentals agencies are becoming an issue, due to the possibilities of room tax not being collected. 1

4. Beverly Martin Burkholder, MS Hospitality & Rest Assn reported that the Chefs of the Coast is September 28, 2014, and this year the Assn has partnered with the MS Hotel & Lodging Assn for hotel room packages. 5. Russ Bloom, Gulf Coast Golf Assn reported the Assn has had a 90% decrease in golf rounds and bookings this year. Marketing needs to be rebranded and they have asked the MS Hotel & Lodging Assn to partner to secure more rounds and bookings. The Assn is open to any suggestions, and support partners can give. 6. Jenna Weatherford, HC Beautification updated the Commission on the I-10 Tri County Gateway Program, which includes the Adopt an Interchange, signage and Highway 90 signage. 7. President Fritz presented Commissioner McKenzie an appreciation plaque for all of his hard work and leadership through the first year of the Commission. 8. President Fritz also requested a Resolution commending Commissioner s George Schloegel and Chett Harrison for their contributions to the Commission on their leaving the Board. 9. Supervisor Kim Savant thanked the Commission for all of the work which has been done so far, and more great things to come. Supervisor Savant reported that he will be appointing Pam Meinzinger to the Commission at the next Board of Supervisors meeting to replace George Schloegel as his term has expired. 10. Renée Areng, Executive Director Report A. Marketing Department Public/Media Relations position to be discussed in Executive Session We have identified 11 articles that have been written about the MS Gulf Coast that the Marketing Department has provided with information for each of them. Highway 90 Street Sign Numbering Project A meeting will be held tomorrow with Harrison County sign engineer to determine next direction. The Interstate exit and traffic light map has been designed by M2 Media as part of the new Dining and Attractions brochure. B. Sales/Sports Department Travel Connect Marketplace and Connect Sports Orlando, FL, Aug 19 23, 2014; HSMAI MEET in Washington DC Sept 3 4, 2014; Meeting Focus Live New Orleans, LA Sept 21 24, 2014 The Group Fam Tour is on the Coast as we speak! August 24 27, 2014 Convention Sales Leads (year to date) are pacing ahead of last fiscal year by 20.9% in total tentative leads. Bookings are pacing slightly up this month (year to date) by 9.5% over last fiscal year. Sports Leads (year to date) are pacing slightly ahead of last fiscal year by 10.3% while bookings are up 38.1%. The bookings increase is due to better tracking and growth in the number of events as well targeting events that are a good fit for current facilities. Commissioner Schloegel made a motion to accept the 2014/2015 Committee Reassignments as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Wagner, the president called the question, with the following results: 16. Commissioner Ladner reported on the August 26, 2014 disbursements as follows: check disbursements for 08/26/14--$487,922.56; total travel advance/reimbursement for the month of August - $4,256.70; grand total disbursements--$492,179.26. Commissioner Descher moved these disbursements be approved. Seconded by Commissioner Levens, the president called the question, with the following results: 4

17. Commissioner Ladner reported on the following items: A. Room sales tax revenue of room sales tax collections for August 15, 2014 2.25% share being $339,875.56 for a 14.44% change in total collection, and total income of 1.43% year to year changes. B. World Choice Travel Revenue collections for the month of July 2014 being $498.70, with a total year to date $6,435.75. 18. Commissioner Holmes reported on the Future Funding Committee. There are four segments which collect taxes, looking into some different alternatives for increasing revenue. 19. Commissioner Levens reported on the Governance Committee evaluations sent to all Commissioners. Also, Committee chair person to review your charters and suggest any changes before the September meeting. 20. Commissioner Levens reported on the current Audits. FY2012 should be completed this week, FY 2013 in two weeks, and FY2014 by the end of September. 21. Myrna Green, HCTDB, reported on the following items: Revenue for ending year looks like it will be up 2% over previous year, and they will make budget. Spotlight fam participants spent time in Hancock County, went over very well. New Harbor opened last month and is already 50% booked, 83 slips leased to out of state boaters. 22. Commissioner Descher made the motion to Enter into Closed Session to discuss the need to enter into Executive Session.
