Ever since its opening in 1872, the Royal Hotel Sanremo is an exclusive and luxury hotel rich in tradition, just the ideal choice for guests seeking charm, relaxation and intimacy: a perfect blend of refinement, modern comfort, warm hospitality and personalised service. Uniquely located on the enchanting Italian Riviera of Flowers, just 45 minutes from Nice International Airport and 30 minutes from Monte-Carlo, the hotel is situated in its colourful subtropical park of 16,000 sq m. With stunning sea view over the Mediterranean, it is close to the sandy beaches and the centre of Sanremo with its Casino and elegant boutiques. Our climate: The most important factors in the climate of the Western Riviera are: being naturally shaped as an amphitheatre, having a southern aspects and being sheltered by the Northern Apennines from the cold winds blowing in from the North Atlantic Sea and Northern Europe. The above factors enable the land to be exposed to the sun and contribute considerably to the exceptionally mild climate typical of the area which stretches from Capo Mele to the French-Italian border. Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec 11 10 12 20 22 24 26 26 22 16 15 11 Half-day excursions 1. Visit of Sanremo: A visit of the historical centre offers some unusual sights. Besides the sea and popular entertainment, one can find cultural amenities, colours and unexpected views provided by the ancient corners of the town and the works of art housed in the numerous churches. Wind your way through the narrow lanes, look up at the fragments of blue sky beckoning between the very tall ancient houses, go in and out of the historical citadel, through its doors, and establish a dialogue between past and present.

Leaving the Royal Hotel, we start our walk in the 19 th century district, dotted with elegant shops and impressive buildings, dating back to the Belle Epoque period. Among them, the Casino and the Orthodox Church, built for the Russian community at the beginning of the 20 th century. We then discover the old centre Pigna with its religious monuments from the late Middle Ages and from the Baroque period, such as the church of San Siro and the Palazzo Borea d Olmo. Passing close to the Church of Santo Stefano, we reach through a 15 th century gate the upper medieval district called Pigna, where we follow the narrow alleys leading up to the Sanctuary Madonna della Costa, a beautiful building from the late Baroque age (steep ascent). From there, we descend slowly to the busy heart of the new town. 2. Tour of Villa Nobel: VILLA NOBEL, a Moorish 18 th century building where the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel spent the last years of his life and established the Nobel Prize while living here. It houses a museum dedicated to him. The tour includes: the permanent exhibition "Discover the Nineteenth Century", the visit of the interesting building with its original furniture and beautiful wall decorations, as well as the park with ancient trees. 3. Pigna and Dolceacqua: The taste and passion for good food may well motivate you to take a nice trip. Extra-virgin olive oil and wine will be the target. The former being a local product of unsurpassed quality, while the latter will be a welcome discovery, with a range of tastes, which can accompany any dish. Guided visit to the most beautiful Ligurian villages with their monuments: the gothic church of St Michael, the slate portals and the 15 th century loggia at Pigna, Dolceacqua with its Doria Castle and its Roman bridge. During the visit it is possible to organize tasting of local products and wines at Cantine Gajaudo at Isolabona www.cantinagajaudo.com.

4. Taggia and Triora: Following the narrow medieval alleys of Taggia, we admire elegant slate portals from the Renaissance and imposing Baroque buildings, like the Lercari Palace and the parish church of St Jacob and St Philip. Later we drive along the Argentina Valley and stop in Badalucco in an oil mill from the 17 th century, where a oil tasting is possible; in the afternoon we drive to the mountains up to Triora, known as the witches village, and visit the Witchcraft Museum www.triora.org. 5. Visit of Bordighera: Driving on the panoramic coastal road Via Aurelia, we reach Bordighera, an elegant town which, thanks to the presence of wealthy tourists from Northern and Eastern Europe, developed in the late 19 th century as a major winter resort. Following the steps of the great Impressionist painter Claude Monet, who stayed here in 1884, we discover several picturesque sites in the heart of the historical centre. Then we proceed along the Cape Gardens to the new town and its scenic seafront promenade, to enjoy the beautiful landscape and try the good Italian ice-cream, before returning to the hotel. Guided visit to the Villa Mariani which houses the atelier of the Belle Époque painter Pompeo Mariani (in its garden, 3 sites painted by Monet). 6. The Hanbury Botanical Gardens: These are the gardens for which Italy is envied by the whole world, boasting 18 hectares of beauty. They were created in the past on one of the most beautiful sites in the Ligurian coast. Nowadays famous botanists meet in this location. After spending a full day here you may never want to leave. It was love of nature that lead an English family to create a botanical garden near Ventimiglia in 1867, in order to acclimatize plants from different zones of the world which would benefit from the favourable position and the mild climate. The contribution of botanists, agronomists and landscape designers, the majority of whom were foreigners, led to the creation of a magnificent ensemble both in its botanical aspect (5,800 ornamental, medicinal and fruiting species) and its landscaping aspect, creating a harmony between buildings, garden structures and the terraces under cultivation, which is unique in Europe.

7. The Olive Tree Museum in Imperia: Imperia s Olive Tree Museum is one place that cannot be missed. First opened in 1992, it bears witness to the symbolical and cultural value of the olive tree. The museum is divided into theme areas representing an historical recreation of different eras in the history of the olive tree. One room with its characteristic dry walls (in the tradition of Western Liguria), houses some old oil presses, like the ones that were used for oil making. There are also antique objects and documents. 8. Visit of the Oceanographic Museum of Monte-Carlo In 1910 Prince Albert I founded this exceptional museum, a architectural masterpiece with its majestic façade overlooking the sea and dedicated to marine science. The museum features outstanding samples of marine fauna collected personally by Prince Albert, numerous species of marine animals, preserved skeletons including a whale of 20 meters and a ship models laboratory. On the basement floor, the famous "Aquarium" offers visitors a fascinating spectacle of exuberant marine flora and fauna with rare colourful fishes. If you wish to offer a really exceptional reception to your guests, you can enjoy a full privatization of this extraordinary building for an evening! A welcome drink at the Aquarium (dug into the rock and that remains one of the most beautiful in the world with its shark lagoon, its tropical and Mediterranean species). Visit of the different areas of this real temple of the sea, which celebrated its Centenary in 2010. Rich Cocktail Party or Gala Dinner: in one of the luxurious and sumptuous rooms of the Oceanographic Museum. Capacity: 300 people for a gala dinner, 650 people for a cocktail party.
