2.2 Sport activities Golf The golf courses of the Karlovy Vary Region belong to the most beautiful and popular courses amongst the fans of this sport in the CR and Europe. It is thanks to the beautiful nature of the Krušné Mountains and Slavkovský Forest, and the high-quality golf background. There are 6 courses in the region in Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně, Cihelny, Luby u Chebu, and Karlovy Vary Golf & Racing Club. Tennis At nearby Hotel Sanssouci, there are tennis courts where we can arrange a complete tennis school, individual courses, or tennis lessons with a professional trainer on clay courts. Biking Biking has recently become a very popular sport more and more people use their bicycle for active relaxation in nature. July 2000 marked the official opening of the long-distance biking trail Euregia Egrensis which offers beautiful biking through more than 500 km in the areas of Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, and the Czech Republic. The Sportcenter will gladly arrange rentals of women s, men s, and children s bikes. Horseback riding We will gladly arrange horse back riding in the Pegas Riding Club in Děpoltovice. You can choose from three types of rides depending on the rider skill level. Racing Facility in Karlovy Vary Hundreds of great races are organized here with the participation of many famous jockeys and horses. The traditional horse racing afternoons take place in the summer season. Nordic walking Nordic walking is a special technique of walking using special sticks which has recently attracted a large number of fans. It would be difficult to find any other type of sport, besides swimming, which employs more than 85% of all muscles and also saves the joints and spine. In the surroundings of Hotel Imperial, there are dozens of kilometers of spa trails ideal for this sport. We can also arrange Nordic walking under the supervision of an instructor. Winter sports The ski centers of Boží Dar and Neklid belong amongst the most desired areas in the Krušné Mountains. Furthermore, we will gladly arrange for groups to rent the ice rink for hockey games. Water sports The traditional water location is the Ohře River flowing through the entire Karlovy Vary Region, and it is one of the best for riding in the CR. Tourism The Karlovy Vary s spa forests offer dozens of kilometers of 20 trails of spa trails for interesting walks and trips in the nature of Slavkovský Forest. Other sports In Karlovy Vary, one can do other sports, such as: athletic swimming, fishing, shooting, bowling, billiards, spinning, pétanque, minigolf, in-line skating, and more. Bungee-jumping In the Karlovy Vary area, there are many high points where one can safely perform this sport. Paintball In Březová by Karlovy Vary, there is a paintball center where you can rent the paintball gun, paintballs, and a suit with face protection for greater safety. Zorbing This new activity in the adrenalin sport field can now be undertaken in the surroundings of Karlovy Vary! It is a ride down a hill in an inflatable ball. Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) The natural power of the thermal springs, the unique spa architecture, and the nature of the Slavkovský Forest these are the basic phenomena of Karlovy Vary which attract the many visitors to this beautiful city in the West Bohemia triangle. The city visit will guide you to the places where such important personalities as Goethe, Schiller, Mozart, Peter I of Russia and others spent their time. Furthermore you will have the opportunity to go on an excursion to the world-famous Moser glassworks. Prague classical In this trip to Prague, you will get to see the most famous cultural and historical sights of the Czech heritage, such as the Prague Castle, the Lesser Town, the Jewish Synagogue, Charles Bridge, and others. Prague on waves The historical center of Prague from the deck of a steamboat on the Vltava River that is an experience you will never forget. You will have the opportunity to visit the residence of Bohemian Kings, Prague Castle, and Charles bridge. The trip also includes lunch in a restaurant by the Prague Castle. Prague at night The popular night trip in Prague will bring you to the historical center in the evening hours, when it glows with its special atmosphere. The excursion ends at the Prague Castle with a view of Prague at night. This excursion has two options you can also watch the Prague night from a steamboat on the Vltava River. 6
Mariánské Lázně The youngest city in the spa triangle has many attractions such as mineral springs, a singing fountain, and the Russian Orthodox church which you can visit during the town visit. Cheb One of the oldest cities in the Czech Republic is not only an admirable historical jewel, but also a pulsing modern city in the middle of Europe. For example, King George of Poděbrady often had meetings here, and he even organized the weddings of his children in Cheb. The city gave important persons to the world: the world famous baroque builder Balthasar Neumann or the piano virtuoso of the 20th century, Rudolf Serkin. But Cheb entered history mainly as the place where the supreme commander Albrecht von Wallenstein was murdered in 1634. Bečov nad Teplou Chateau This trip will lead you in the history of the Bečov nad Teplou Chateau and via Mariánské lázně, where you will have lunch, ending at the Prince von Metternich chateau in Kynžvart Spa. Kynžvart Chateau The Kynžvart Chateau you have the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful Czech chateaus loved by the Prince von Metternich, along with a small break in Mariánské lázně. Loket castle The medieval castle Loket was built in the 12th century above the Ohře River and you have the unique opportunity to learn its history on this trip to Loket, which is accompanied by refreshments in the castle restaurant. Teplá Monastery This unique visit will bring you to the Teplá Premonstratensian Monastery which was built in 1193 1232 as a Roman-Gothic three-aisled hall church. It was founded by the Prince Hroznat, who soon after called in the Premonstratensian friars from Prague s Strahov. Plzeň (Pilsen) This trip will bring you to the city famous for its tradition in brewing beer. The trip also includes a visit to the famous Plzeňský Prazdroj Brewery where you can taste the beer barreled directly from the tanks. It also includes lunch in the famous Na Spilce restaurant and a visit to the historical center of Pilsen. Křivoklát Castle The Křivoklát Castle founded by the oldest Bohemian dynasty Přemyslid was built in the 13th century. The castle visit includes refreshments in a stylish restaurant close to Křivoklát castle. 2.5 Cultural options Culture in Karlovy Vary has many years of tradition. You can choose from a wide selection of concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, or musical or film festivals. Theatres Karlovy Vary Municipal Theater The scene of the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre offers many interesting theater performances, operas, operettas, and musicals. Divadlo dětí (Children s Theater) Every two weeks, the Spa Resort Sanssouci prepares a performance of a marionette theater for children in the Blues Café. The children have a 50% discount on drinks during the entire performance. Museums Karlovy Vary Regional Museum The Regional Museum introduces the history and nature of Karlovy Vary, geology, live nature, traditions of the spa and tin-making industries, the weapons industry, and an exposition of porcelain and glass. There is also a permanent exposition of Bohemian glass an exposition which details the development of Bohemian glass in the 19th century and the development of the Moser glass works. Muzeum Zlatý klíč (Golden Key Museum) Here, you can visit the exposition with the name Svět kolonád (Colonnade World), an exposition of secession paintings of Karlovy Vary from 1894 1896 by a Vienna painter named Willhelm Gause. Moser Glass Museum The glass museum offers the history of glass production from the very beginnings of the manufacture until the present. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to visit the glass works. The concierge will gladly arrange the visit for you. Jan Becher Museum This museum unveils the secret of the 13th healing spring of Karlovy Vary. We also prepared an exposition and tour of the historical cellars, a video projection, and a tasting. Every year, one can hear operettas, musicals, and music performances by the most famous world artists. Symphonic orchestra Karlovy Vary has its own Symphonic Orchestra which organizes dozens of music productions every year.
