COUNTRY PROFILE:, an island of lagoons and palm-fringed beaches in the Indian Ocean, has a reputation for stability and racial harmony among its mixed population of Asians, Europeans and Africans. The island has maintained one of the developing world's most successful democracies and has enjoyed years of constitutional order. has preserved its image as one of Africa's few social and economic success stories. was uninhabited when the Dutch took possession in 1598. Abandoned in 1710, it was taken over by the French in 1715 and seized by the British in 1810. It gained independence in 1968 as a constitutional monarchy, with executive power nominally vested in the British monarch. It became a republic in 1992.The island of Rodrigues and other smaller islets also form part of the country. The people of are multiethnic, multi-religious and multicultural. The island's government is closely modelled on the Westminster parliamentary system, and is highly ranked for economic and political freedom. Along with the other Mascarene Islands, is known for its varied flora and fauna, with many species endemic to the island. The island is widely recognized as the only known home of the dodo, which, along with several other avian species, was made extinct by human activities relatively shortly after the island's settlement. The ICT sector is believed to be one of the most dynamic industries in and it constitutes one of the most powerful tools needed to open up new prospects of sustainable development. The National Computer Board () which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation (MTCI) promotes the

development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in. Its core mission is to accelerate the transition of the country into a regional ICT hub and ensure the swift realization of government's objective to make of the ICT sector a key pillar of the economy. Further, the Information & Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) is responsible for the promotion of affordable and adequate access to quality ICT services. The MTCI is dedicated to ICT innovation and its mission statement is to provide the right environment for the harnessing of ICTs to generate employment, increase national wealth, improve quality of life and create new opportunities for sustainable socio-economic development of. 2. 5. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION All travel information, including flight number, arrival and departure dates and times should be forwarded to the points of contact indicated herein. The host will provide transport to delegates as follows: a) On arrival and departure from & to the airport (The SSR International Airport) b) From the designated hotels to the meeting venue and back. c) During the various social events organized for the delegates Additionally, taxi-cab and car hire services are available at hotels. Delegates are strongly advised to use official taxis from hotels or as may be recommended by the host. 6. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS Delegates are advised to have fever vaccination. Before visiting, delegates may check with their health-care providers about vaccinations and medications for preventable diseases according to the needs of the individual. 7. VISA REQUIREMENTS All passengers travelling to must be in possession of a valid passport issued and recognized by their governments. Travelers coming to must be holding valid passports and other acceptable travel documents. This may be issued with a visitor s pass on arrival at a port of entry into valid for Six Months. The final decision to admit a non-citizen rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in. He/she decides how long the person can stay for any particular visit. WEATHER enjoys a pleasant tropical climate and July is considered the coolest month of the year with average temperature of around 20-21 C. During winter (May to October) the temperature is around 22 C on the coast and around 19 C on the Central Plateau. December, January and February are the warmest Months, with average temperature of around 27-28 C.
