Computer All participants should bring a fully charged laptop computer (not a tablet) with them to the event and download session materials in advance (available Thursday, September 10). Sessions Teacher Leaders will have the opportunity to choose two sessions that fit their needs and interests. Teacher Leaders will not register for specific sessions in advance. Sessions are filled on a first come, first served basis. All the sessions below are tentative and subject to change. Content Grade(s) Session Title Session Description Area Math & ELA 3-8 End of Year Assessments Learn what the PARCC reports for 2014-2015 results will look like and create a plan for how you will share these with students and their parents. The Department will also share information about the 2015-2016 end of year assessments. ELA K-5 6-12 Productive Conversations: a Model Lesson Learn how to use discussions to build students opinions about texts and support student writing. ELA 3-12 Stop, Integrate, and Listen! Learn how to stop assessing single standards in ELA and look at student trends to guide instruction. This is a repeat of the June Teacher Leader session on ELA assessments. 2
Content Grade(s) Session Title Session Description Area Math 3-12 Effective Remediation in Mathematics Investigate strategies to get every student in your class working with on-grade-level work in minimal time. This session will extend beyond last year s remediation sessions and offer clear processes to scaffold student learning. Math K-12 EAGLE: Equation Editor and Rubrics Explore EAGLE s new features to expand students exposure to a wide variety of item types and create quality formative assessments. Math K-5 6-9 Content Pedagogy: Addition & Subtraction Dig deep into the standards in this session, which was designed to help you teach conceptually and use precise math language to improve student learning. Social Studies K-12 Digging Below the Surface Explore how to use the newly released scope and sequence documents to dig deeper into social studies. Science K-12 Engaging Students in Experimentation Investigate ways to design science experiences that engage students in science content, critical thinking, and deep problem solving. All K-12 Setting Effective Goals Sound strategy starts with having the right goal. Ignite your classroom in the 2015-2016 school year by setting a goal that drives your instruction. Special Education Special Education 8-12 High School Graduation Pathways K-12 Learning Accommodations Learn how to plan meaningful high school experiences that lead to high school diplomas for students with disabilities. Learn how to select and apply appropriate learning accommodations to instruction and assessment. 3
Registration Participants must register for the September Teacher Leader Collaboration Event Coursewhere by September 9. Participants do not register for specific sessions in advance. Seats at each event are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. Teacher Leaders are encouraged to share information from the sessions they attend with fellow educators in their schools and districts to increase the numbers of educators who are able to benefit from this content. Food and Travel All travel expenses associated with attending Teacher Leader Collaboration Events are the responsibility of Teacher Leaders, their schools and/or their districts. The Louisiana Department of Education will not reimburse participants, their schools or their districts for the cost of mileage, rental cars, hotels, food or substitute teachers. Teacher Leaders should check with their school and district before registering for one of these events to ensure costs will be covered. Food will not provided at the September Teacher Leader Collaboration Event.
