1 Bike Transport 23 Jan 2018 Introduction We are providing options for you to offload your bike before leaving home and then to travel home post event without your bike. This makes it easier to use any form of transport without having to worry about space and cost for your bike or the trouble of having to carry it boxed up. If you drive to Cairns, then you can fit more people and luggage into your vehicle if you are free of your bike. The following explains the bike transport options listed on the online entry form and should also be read in conjunction with the Getting There and Back info sheet. If you book one of our charter buses, then you must book your bike separately as the charter bus costs for the event do not automatically include your bike. Each option below notes whether bikes need to be boxed although we prefer they are - see our info sheet Packing your bike and luggage for CQ which includes notes for unboxed bikes. If you should have boxed your bike and haven t, it will not be accepted unless you have made prior arrangements with BQ such as for bagged or odd shaped bikes. The bikes will travel in a truck neatly stacked up to 3 high so must be well packed i.e. no bulges and nothing protruding from the box. It is expected bike boxes will be no larger than 1.4m x 0.8m x 0.3m. Please advise BQ if your bike is not a standard single frame i.e. tandem, recumbent, trike, e-bike, trailer, trailer bike or folder. Bicycles are carried at owner s risk. Home to Cape Tribulation service from Brisbane and surrounds - $80 Covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Beenleigh, Redlands, Redcliffe and Samford. For selected suburbs in Brisbane and surrounds your boxed bike will be collected from your address (as listed on your entry form) and delivered to Cape Tribulation. 327 suburbs are included and the full list is at the end of this info sheet check your suburb is included (the list has changed from previous years), note the division, pickup date & time as per: Division: North: Pickup will be between 5pm and 9pm on Monday 27/8/18. Division: South: Pickup will be between 5pm and 9pm on Tuesday 28/8/18. Bikes will be available from 7am on Sunday 2/9/18 in Cape Tribulation. Bike box delivery pre event - to Brisbane and surrounds - For selected suburbs in Brisbane and surrounds a new cardboard bike box can be delivered to your house. 327 suburbs are included and the full list is at the end of this info sheet check your suburb is included (the list has changed from previous years). The box will be delivered to your address (as listed on your entry form) on a weekday on or between Monday 20/8/18 and Thursday 23/8/18. The box will be left even if no one is home. BQ bike boxes are generously sized at 1.4m long x 0.8m high x 0.26m wide. Take care of it and it will last for a number of events. Bike boxes are also available for purchase from the Bicycle Queensland office (20 Horan Street, West End) for $21. For interstate or event participants outside of the suburb list we suggest you contact your local bike shop to secure a bike box or use one of the pre-event bike packing services available at selected depot locations (see next page for more detail). Bike packing at finish When headed home you may need to pack your bike for transport home (e.g. home service, depots, flying, long bus trip). For this you will need either a new cardboard bike box or your own packaging you used to get to the start and we have transported for you. Note: any cardboard bike box you use to get to the start will be destroyed unless you book and pay for it to be transported to the end. Options are: Transport a hard or soft case from start to finish. Maximum size allowed is 1.6m x 1.0m x 0.4m - $60. Transport a flat packed cardboard bike box from start to finish. Must be completely flat so any additional items such as bubble wrap needs to be carried in your luggage - $20. Purchase a new BQ cardboard bike box to be supplied at the finish,1.4m long x 0.8m high x 0.26m wide - $20. Cairns to Home service - to Brisbane and surrounds - $70 Covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Beenleigh, Redlands, Redcliffe and Samford. Depot to Cape Tribulation and Cairns to Depot service Depot to Cape Tribulation service: You deliver your boxed bike to our transport depot and we deliver it to Cape Tribulation where you collect it. This allows you to travel from home to the event or to our charter bus departures without having to carry your bike. Bikes will be available in Cape Tribulation from 7am on Sunday 2/9/18. Cairns to Depot service: Your boxed bike will be delivered from the Cairns finish site to our transport depot where you collect it. This allows you to travel from the event to home without having to carry your bike. You must also select a Bike Packing option see above. Bikes must be loaded at the finish by 12noon on Sunday 9/9/18. arrive at Cape Tribulation in time. If the above depot locations are too far away, please contact Bicycle Queensland to discuss alternate options. Take my bike on the bus with me For people who are unable to use the Home or Depot Services then you can still take your bike on the bus with you (although note that invariably it will end up on a truck). We encourage you to use the other services, if possible, as these provide you with the best flexibility and allow us the best chance to get everyone to the start on time. They also save you the trouble of getting both your boxed bike and your luggage to the bus departure. Bikes with you on the bus best suits people who are travelling from regional areas where we do not have depot locations, although we do now offer depots in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Cairns and Townsville. Pre event: Bikes collected from Cairns bus departure points (i.e. Airport/Railway Station) will not be transported at the same time as the bus services. Bikes will be collected from each bus departure point and taken to a central depot before being transported to the event. Bikes will be available in Cape Tribulation from 7am on Sunday 2/9/18. Post event: bikes will arrive at the same time as your bus. Bikes must be boxed on all services except as noted - see our info sheet Packing your bike and luggage for CQ for info on how to pack your bike for this service. Short ride bike transport options The above Depot and Home services are now available if you are participating in the Cape Tribulation to Atherton or the Atherton to Cairns short ride options. Cape Tribulation to Atherton: Use the Depot or Home services detailed above to get your bike to the start site (Cape Tribulation). Upon arrival in Atherton on Wednesday 5/9/18 check your bike in at Ride Reception (after packing it). Your bike will be transported back to Brisbane and be held at our depot until the event conclusion. Bikes will then be returned as per normal Depot and Home Service times. Atherton to Cairns: Use the Depot or Home services detailed above to get your bike transported to Atherton. Your bike will be available in Atherton from on Wednesday 5/9/2018. Bike transport from the finish site will be as per normal Depot and Home Service times. Bike packing tip Reclaiming your boxed bike at the start site can be tricky when there are hundreds of boxes that look alike. The boxes are typically lined up side by side with the ends visible. The best thing to do is to label both ends of the box and add some unique markings so your box will stand out of the crowd.
