Practical Information Registration to the Conference Registration to the Conference will start from 14.15 on Saturday 21 st April. The registration desk will be set IN THE HALL OF THE MUSÉE D HISTOIRE. You will be requested to sign the registration list, and will receive your badge, and a bag with the programme of the Conference, a pen and a notepad. In case you have prepared some drinks or sweets for the intercultural dinner, you are kindly requested to bring it to the registration on Saturday 21st April, where the organizers will collect them. Please, do not lose or forget your badge: you will need it to participate to conference activities and to have access to coffee breaks, lunches and dinners. For all those participants who have registered to participate only to particular days of the conference, registration tables will be set also at MUCEM (Monday 23 April) and at Musée d Histoire (Wednesday 25 April), at least half an hour before the beginning of the first morning session. Please, refer to the programme to have the most up to data times. Payments All those who have requested to pay the conference fee in cash will be approached by the conference organisers upon their registration on 21, 23 and 25 April 2018. The fee should be paid in EURO. Upon payment, you will receive a new, signed, copy of the conference invoice, while a double will remain at EUROCLIO. The cash payment of EUROCLIO Membership fee for 2018 is possible before the General Assembly session, which will be on the 26 April. The Membership Fee should also be paid in EURO. In ORDER FOR AN Association to be eligible for vote in the General Assembly of 2018, which will take place at University Aix-Marseille on Thursday 26 April, the Association s fee must be paid before the General Assembly starts. 3

Translation On Monday 23 April (whole day in the Auditorium) and Wednesday 25 April (morning), we will provide simultaneous English-French and French-English translation. You will be provided with a wireless headset upon entering the Auditorium on these days. The headset will be collected at the end of the plenary programme by members of the Staff. Please, do not lose sight of your headset during the day. In case your headset cannot be recovered at the end of the day, the translation company will charge you 250 EURO. Telephone Codes and Useful Numbers The Telephone country code for France is: + (00) 33 If you want to dial a number with an international phone: 00-33-CITYCODE-NUMBER (+33) 112 This is the Universal European Emergency Services number, and works from all phones including mobiles (Police/Fire/Ambulance). (+33) 18 - Emergencies. This number connects to the fire brigade (Sapeurs Pompiers) but they also deal with medical emergencies and should be the first port of call in life-threatening situations. (+33) 15 - Samu (for other urgent medical call-outs) (+33) 114: Emergency calls (hearing assisted) Dress Code There are two particular events in the programme where we advise you to wear Semi-formal attire: the opening reception on 21 April and the dinner at Hotel de Région. During the conference there is no specific dress code. However, due to our conference programme, it is very important to bring warm clothes, an anti-rain coat/umbrella and solid shoes. Please note that rain is foreseen in the afternoon of Tuesday 24 April, Wednesday 25 April and Thursday 26 April. Where and when will the Conference take place? EUROCLIO s 25th Annual Conference will take place from 21st-26th April 2018. The location of the 2018 EUROCLIO Annual Conference is Marseille, France. If you arrive in France before 21st April, please, make sure that the conference organizers are informed beforehand if you have not yet done so. Since Antiquity, the Mediterranean Basin has been the centre for the three monotheisms, flourishing civilisations, migrations, the development of cultural, scientific and economic exchanges, but also for the intersections of wars. Today, unfortunately, the Mediterranean Basin is the theatre of a humanitarian crisis that has challenged the collective leadership around the sea. Marseille, as port city facing the Mediterranean, was the perfect choice for historical, cultural and civil educators from across Europe to convene for a series of workshops and events centred on the themes of People on the Move, War and Peace, and A Common Heritage. The conference activities (aside from external visits) will take place in the Historical Museum of Marseille (Musée d'histoire de Marseille), the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MUCEM), the High School of Marseilleveyre (Lycée Marseilleveyre), and the University of Aix- Marseille. Throughout the Information Package, we will consider Hotel StayCity*** Vieux Port as the meeting point. Therefore, indications will be provided using the Hotel as starting point / destination. Getting to the city from the Airport: To get to the Hotel from the Airport, it is possible to take a taxi for the tariff of around 50 EUR during daytime, and 60 EUR at night. As an alternative, is it possible to take either a bus or a metro train. Metro Train: The Métro 1 and 2 connects the station Vitrolles-aéroport Marseille Provence station to Marseille Central train station (Marseille Saint Charles). To reach the station Vitrollesaéroport, you are required to take a shuttle bus from Platform 5 of the bus station in the airport. There is one shuttle every 15 minutes, and the journey time from the airport to Vitrolles-aéroport station is of 5 minutes. At Vitrolles-aéroport, you can take Métro 1 and 2. There is one train per hour, and the journey lasts between 15 and 25 minutes. For those participants who chose Hotel Ibis Marseille Centre Euromed or Suitotel Novotel Marseille Centre Euromed, there is the possibility to take Tram 2 directly from Vitrolles-aéroport to the station Euromed Arenc Tram. 7

Shuttle Bus: Every 15 minutes, the NAVETTE AEROPORT MARSEILLE (LIGNE 91) connects the airport with the station Marseille Saint Charles. The first Shuttle departs at 04:50 from the airport, the last at 00:10. The journey from the airport to the station lasts around 25 minutes. Below, you can see a detailed map of both the shuttle stop at the airport and at the Marseille Saint Charles station. At the airport, the shuttle bus departs from Gare Rouitiere (bus station), from the Stops 6 and 8 alternatively. To see the location of Gare Routiere, please refer to the image at page 4. At the Station Saint Charles, the Shuttle will drop you off / pick you up in Rue St. Honorat 9

Getting to the Hotel StayCity*** Vieux Port from the Gare (Train Station) de Marseille-Saint-Charles: the Hotel is situated at a 10 minutes walking distance from the main train station of Marseille: Gare Marseille-Saint-Charles. Below, you can find detailed indications. In case you arrive at the station and wish to reach directly the venues of the conference, in the following section ( The Venues of the Conference ) you will find a map containing the necessary indications. Taking a Taxi in Marseille. Taxi Tourisme Marseille is the most used taxi company in the city. Its number is: 0033672833452. The initial taxi fare is of 2.00 EUR, and an additional charge of 1.10 EUR per piece of luggage may apply. Night rate applies from 19.00 to 07.00. As an example, we have calculated the average fare from Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles to MUCEM, which results to be of 10.31 EUR. 10

All the Hotels, Restaurants and Venues of the Conference In the map below, you can find the position of all the Hotels, Restaurants and Venues of the Conference in the Vieux Port Area, with the sole exception of Lycée Marseillevyre, which is outside the Vieux Port Area. On April 25, Lunch will be served either at Restaurant Mundart or at Restaurant Del Arte, depending on the selected Cultural Programme for the afternoon. The Venues of the Conference Musée d'histoire de Marseille Situated in the Centre Bourse area, in 2 Rue Henri Barbusse, the Musée d'histoire de Marseille will be the venue of the Conference during the opening, Saturday 21 April, and during the morning of Wednesday 25 April. Getting to the Venue: The Musée d'histoire is situated within walking distance from all the main hotels of the Vieux Port Area. On the left, you can find detailed indication of how to get to the Museum from the Hotel StayCity ***. The farthest hotel from the Museum is located at a distance of 20 minutes. If you have difficulties in cover such distance walking, please let us know by email at the address alice@euroclio.eu. We will be glad to look for an alternative. 13

It takes approximately 10 minutes to reach the Musee d Histoire de Marseille from the Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles. Below, you can find detailed indication on how to reach the Museum from the Station. 14

Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MUCEM) Situated in 7 Promenade Robert Laffont, MUCEM will be the venue of the Conference on Monday 23 April. Please, note that on this day there won t be a plenary conclusion of the programme: due to the fact that the Museum will close at 18.00, we will need to end the day after the breakout sessions. After the end of the programme, we would like to seize the opportunity to take a group picture outside MUCEM. 15

Getting to the Venue: MUCEM is situated within walking distance from all the main hotels of the Vieux Port and Euromediterranean Area. Below, you can find detailed indication of how to get to the Museum from the Hotel StayCity ***. It takes, on average, 20 minutes from each hotel to the museum. If you have difficulties in cover such distance walking, please let us know by email at the address alice@euroclio.eu. We will be glad to look for an alternative. The walking distance between MUCEM and Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles is of around 30 minutes. Below, you can find detailed indications. In case you arrive at the station and wish to reach MUCEM with public transport, you can take the bus 82S from the station to Pharo Catalans. The name of the stop nearest to MUCEM is Fort St. Jean. From the stop, it takes 3 minutes walking to reach MUCEM. The price of a bus ticket is 1.90 if you buy the ticket directly on the bus, 1.50 if you buy the ticket at the vending machines in the Station. 16

Lycée Marseilleveyre This High School, situated in situated 83 Traverse Parangon, will be our venue for Tuesday 24 April. Please note that there will be no internet access at the Lycée Marseilleveyre. Getting to the Venue: Lycée Marseilleveyre is situated outside the Vieux-Port Area. EUROCLIO has arranged a private bus to transport us to the venue. The bus will pick participants up in front of Hotel StayCity at 08.00 in the morning. Meeting time has been set at 07.45. Depending on traffic conditions, the trip would take around half an hour. It is possible to travel with personal cars to the Lycée. However, parking spaces are private, and need to be reserved. After the end of the sessions at Lycée Marseilleveyre, the bus will take us back to the Vieux-Port area, directly to the Restaurant Mundart, where we will have dinner (for more information, please refer to the section Eating at the Conference ). If you intend to reach the Lycée with your personal car, please do let us know by Thursday, 19 April, by sending an email to Alice Modena (alice@euroclio.eu). Teachers as Researchers. If have joined the Special Interest Group (SIG) Teachers as Researchers, we recommend you to bring your poster presentation with you at Lycée Marseilleveyre, where it will be exposed in the hallways. 17

University of Aix-Marseille Campus Saint Charles Situated 3 Place Victor Hugo, near to the Train Station, the University will host the General Assembly, the Discussion Tables and the World Café, on Thursday 26 April. Please, note that the University of Aix-Marseille has more than one seat in the City of Marseille, be careful to reach the right location! Getting to the Venue: Campus Saint Charles is situated near the train station Saint Charles, walking distance from all the main hotels of the Vieux Port and Euromediterranean Area. Below, you can find detailed indication of how to get to the Museum from the Hotel StayCity ***. The farthest hotel from the University is located at 20 minutes of walking distance. If you have difficulties in cover such distance walking, please let us know by email at the address alice@euroclio.eu. We will be glad to look for an alternative. 18

It takes just around five minutes to reach the University Campus from the train station. Below, you can find detailed indications. 19

Eating at the Conference Throughout the Conference, lunch will be generally provided at the venues listed above, with the sole exception of Wednesday 25 April. Dinners will be provided in a variety of different restaurants and venues, which you can find listed below. For the exact times, please refer to the Programme. Vegetarian, vegan, halal, and kosher meals will be provided according to the information about alimentary needs collected in the previous weeks. If you believe we have not registered your alimentary needs yet, please send an email to alice@euroclio.eu no later than Thursday 19 April. The Opening Reception at World Trade Center WTC After the first session of the conference, which will be held at Musée d Histoire de Marseille on Saturday 21 April, we will all transfer to the World Trade Center WTC for the opening Reception. WTC is situated in 2 Rue Henri Barbusse. Please note that we will walk directly from the Musée d Histoire to the reception venue. The walking distance is of around 5 minutes, and below you can find detailed indications. 20

In case you arrive to the city after the official beginning of the conference, which is set to start at 14.15, and wish to join us for the reception, please write an email to Alice Modena (alice@euroclio.eu), not later than Thursday, 16 April. Below you can find the indications to reach WTC from the Train Station and from the Hotel. INTERCULTURAL EVENING TRY SOMETHING NEW, BRING SOMETHING NEW. As a precursor to our International Conference everyone is invited to bring their wine, drinks and sweets from their countries to open our conference with new experiences and tastes for all our participants. You should leave items to conference organisers at the registration. Restaurant Mundart Dinner on the 23 and 24 April, lunch on the 25 April As underlined also on the Conference Programme, Dinner on the 23 and 24 April will be at Restaurant Mundart, in 72 Rue de la Joliette. Furthermore, on Wednesday 25 April, lunch will be held at Restaurant Mundart for all the participants who have selected the visit to Kleber Community Centre and Le Panier as Cultural Programme for the afternoon. On Monday 23 April, participants will reach the Restaurant with their own means, while on Tuesday 24 we will be accompanied to the Restaurant directly by the bus on our return from Lycée Marseilleveyre. 21

23 April: INTERNATIONAL PUB QUIZ Challenge yourself and battle against your colleauges! Battle against your peer colleagues and test your own knowledge on a wide range of topics. You will be part of a team of participants with different nationalities and backgrounds. The higher the variety within your team, the higher the chance you have to be the winning group! EUROCLIO will provide you with two coupons for beer or wine. Getting to the Restaurant: It takes around 10 minutes to reach the Restaurant from the Hotel. Restaurant Del Arte Lunch on the 25 April On Wednesday 25 April, lunch will be held at Restaurant Delarte, in 31 Quai des Belges for all the participants who have selected the visit to Musée d Histoire with the audioguide Adolescent as Cultural Programme for the afternoon. The restaurant is situated at around 5-10 minutes walking distance from the Musée d Histoire, and below you can find detailed indications on the route to follow. 23

Hôtel de Région Dinner on the 25 April After the cultural programme, dinner will be held at Hôtel de Région, the administrative seat of the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'azur, situated in 27 Place Jules Guesde. The Hôtel is situated across the road from Hotel StayCity*** Vieux Port, as you can see below. The farthest hotel is located at around 15 minutes from Hôtel de Région. During the dinner, Madame Caroline POZMENTIER, vice-president and international relations manager for the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d Azur, will have the pleasure to represent Monsieur Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d Azur. Final Festive Dinner - Restaurant La Piscine After the final day at University Aix-Marseille, we will head to Restaurant La Piscine for our final festive dinner. The Restaurant is located in 148 Quai du Port, at around 12 minutes walking distance from the Hotel. Below, you can find detailed indications about the route to follow. After Dinner a Meeting Place for Drinks With the exception of Monday 23 April, no activities have been programmed after the dinners. We would like, however, to suggest you to use the free time to deepen your knowledge of the colleagues, to grab a drink with your peer teachers and educators, and to intensify your networks. The Vieux-Port Area is filled with small pubs and bistrots where you can spend your evenings and nights after dinner. However, we would like to suggest the pub The Queen Victoria, situated in 1 Place aux Huiles, as a meeting point. Accommodation at the Conference During the conference, the majority of the participants will be staying in the following hotels: StayCity Marseille Vieux-Port; Ibis Marseille Centre Euromed Hotel; Hotel Mercure Marseille Centre Vieux Port; Novotel Marseille Vieux Port; Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port; Ibis Marseille Centre Vieux Port Hotel; Suite Novotel Marseille Centre Euromed. Below, you can see the location of all the hotels, marked on the map with a yellow star. Please, not that all the indications provided in the previous sections ( The venues of the conference and eating at the conference ) take Hotel StayCity*** Vieux Port as the starting point. Furthermore, busses for On-site Learning and Lycée Marseilleveyre will depart from Hotel StayCity, too. It takes approximately 30 minutes from Hotel Novotel Marseille Vieux Port and Hotel Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port to reach Hotel StayCity Breakfast at Hotel StayCity. If you are staying at Hotel StayCity Vieux Port, please note that breakfast is served between 06.00 and 11.00. Since the breakfast area has a limited number of places available, breakfast will be served in the rooms. We recommend you to agree on breakfast time at the moment of Check In. 29

On Site Learning Sunday 22 April will be dedicated to On Site Learning activities. Participants will be divided in two groups, one directed to Camp des Milles and one to Toulon. For both groups, the pick up point for the bus travel will be Hotel StayCity. You are kindly requested to reach the hotel at 08.15, so that we can leave on time. We will be back at around 18.00, and you will have a free evening to spend in Marseille. Buses will arrive and depart at around the same time, so be careful to get on the correct bus! We reccommend you to wear comfortable and solid shoes, and to carry an umbrella with you. For a detailed overview of On Site Learning activities, please refer to the programme of the Conference. Cultural Programme During the afternoon of Wednesday 25 April, participants will be divided in 4 groups. The first two groups will have lunch at Restaurant Mundart and, then, start a guided tour of the neighbourhood Le Panier. The second group will have lunch at Restaurant Mundart and, then, visit the Kleber Community Centre and the 3rd Arrondissement of Marseille. In case you are part of one of the above-mentioned groups, we reccommend you to wear comfortable and solid shoes, and to carry an umbrella with you. The fourth group will have lunch at Restaurant Del Arte and, then, go back to the Musée d Histoire de Marseille to visit the permanent exhibition with the audioguide adolscent. In case you are part of this group, we reccommend you to wear comfortable and solid shoes. For a overview of the Cultural Visits, please refer to the programme of the Conference. Please, be aware that there won t be time to go back to the hotel between the morning session at Musée d Histoire and the Cultural Visits. 30
