Visit Moscow One of the most famous cities in the world, the capital of Russia, the treasury of its cultural and historic values is awaiting you. The city boasts a history of 865 years, and carefully preserves the heritage of the past. That said, Moscow is also a modern and vibrating megapolis, a major international center of business and finance. Moscow is a hospitable city where one can find accommodation to suit any taste and budget. It offers 400 accommodation facilities: differently-priced hotels, hostels, mini-hotels and apartments. Moscow never sleeps: the illumination of Moscow s streets and houses will let you enjoy a stroll including after the sunset. The city was formerly known as Petrograd, and later Leningrad. This is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on earth, and virtually any building in the large historic center, threaded with canals dotted with baroque bridges, can be considered an attraction and indeed, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is a magical city, with a long list of major attractions. Its Hermitage Museum, housed in the Winter Palace of the Romanov Dynasty, is both one of the world's greatest and oldest collections of art, treasure, and antiquities, and one of its most beautiful buildings. Still considered Russia's cultural capital, St. Petersburg reflects the country's extraordinary fate like no other city, and its uniquely rich atmosphere exerts a powerful grip on even the most jaded traveler. Visit the Golden Ring 'The Golden Ring' is one of the oldest Russian routes. It goes to the north-east of Moscow and forms a circle. There are many interesting ancient Russian cities and towns along the way, full of history and unique Russian architecture of the XII-XVII centuries. All cities and towns are located relatively close to each other, the 'Golden Ring' forms a ring, so from one place you can reach to another and make a circle until you get back to the one you started with. Some of the reasons to take the Golden Ring tour are: seeing the Russian architecture, old churches made of white stone, hearing the bell chime, seeing old fortifications, fortresses, beautiful monasteries, and learn more about history of Russia. Another good reason for the Golden Ring route is escaping from the busy, polluted capital and taking a breath of fresh air while travelling through peaceful Russian countryside and experiencing a different provincial way of life in Russia. Visit Karelia Karelia is one of the most amazing and interesting parts of the Russian Federation. It is situated in the north-west of Russia and boarders Finland in the west, various Russian regions in the south and east and is washed by the White Sea in the north-east. Historians and ethnographers call it the «Northen pearl of Russia», and this claim has all the bases. Karelia is one of the most famous Russian territories in international tourism for it's unique architectural, cultural and historical sites located on Kizhi, Valaam and Solovetskie islands, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. With over 80 000 lakes and rivers and many nature reserves and national parks Karelia has great opportunities for different types of tourism: active tourism (from river rafting in the summer to snowmobile safari in the winter), eco-tourism, hunting and fishing, guesthouses, spas during winter and summer season, rafting and ecological tourism. Karelia can satisfy the needs of all visitors: more than four thousand cultural, historical and natural monuments are on its territory. Recommended season: May September.
Visit Sochi Sochi is one of the biggest and most beautiful resorts in Russia. Officially, Sochi is only the name of the central part of the resort, which also includes the districts of Lazarevskoe, Khosta, and Adler. The city of Sochi is spread out among the foothills of the Caucasus and along the shores of the Black Sea. The city is situated at the same latitude as Nice and Toronto. Located in the midst of lush, subtropical gardens on the Black Sea's most stunning stretch of coastline, Sochi provides the ideal destination for leisure visitors - it offers the modern amenities and unique environment of a subtropical city with the towering Caucasus Mountains reaching skyward to over 2,100m just 30 miles away. In Sochi, you will be basking in the subtropical seaside weather and enjoying slope time in the mountains all just 45 minutes apart with the most convenient transportation system developed for Winter Olympic Games 2014. Visit the Baikal Lake Baikal is a beautiful lake located in the South-Eastern part of Siberia. It is the deepest freshwater lake on the earth and the largest reservoir of fresh surface water. Baikal is famous for the unique clarity of its waters and the diversity of flora and fauna. Besides, Baikal Lake has been the important holy place of Asia for many centuries. It is a must to visit Baikal if you're taking a Trans-Siberian train. This train stops in Irkutsk and rather than sitting in the train for 6 days waiting to arrive to Moscow (or Beijing), you can hop off the train in Irkutsk and make a trip to Baikal Lake. The experiences you will get there will be incomparable to anything else. There are numerous reasons to visit the lake and experience the way of life over there. There are fresh air, tasty water from the lake, rocky mountains, and beautiful forests for people who want to be close to the nature. The usual tourist activities like trekking, biking, camping, kayaking, fishing occur to be unusual if it s done at this magic lake. You will also experience another culture at Baikal, in fact two cultures Asian Buryat and Siberian Russian. Recommended season: May September; December March (winter experience)
Visit Volgograd (ex. Stalingrad) Volgograd is one of the most beautiful ancient cities of Russia. It is located in the south-eastern European part of Russia on the right bank of the Volga river. It can be reached from Moscow by an overnight train or by a 2-hour flight. Throughout its history the city has changed names three times it was founded in 1589 as a fortress named Tsaritsyn, in 1925 it took the name of the world famous Soviet leader Stalin and became Stalingrad and later in 1961 was renamed to Volgograd meaning City on the Volga river. Ironically the city became known to the world during World War II when the famous Battle of Stalingrad took place. This battle was so fierce, with over 1 million bombs dropped on the city, that it was completely destroyed. However, the Stalingrad Battle marked a turning point in the battle against Nazi Germany, and the city rose up from the ashes. Nowadays, Volgograd is an economical and cultural center of the region attracting thousands of tourists each year to experience its beautiful nature and rich and glorious history. Recommended season: all year round.
