ITINERARY DAY 1: KATHMANDU Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. DAY 2: KATHMANDU - POKHARA - SANCTUARY LODGE (1060M) Transfer back to the airport this morning for the short flight on to Pokhara, from where you will then be driven to the start of the trek. Following a trail through the lower foothills of the Annapurnas, you'll enjoy stunning views across the Pokhara and Modi Valleys, before dropping down towards the Sanctuary Lodge. After a chance to enjoy lunch and the spectacular views of the sacred "Fishtail" Mountain, this afternoon then provides a chance for an optional walk into the nearby village of Birethanti. (B,L,D) DAY 3: SANCTUARY LODGE - HIMLAYA LODGE (2000M) Leaving the lodge after breakfast, your journey takes you past the outlying farms this morning and along the course of the Modi River Valley. Leaving the valley behind you'll then climb towards the high mountain peaks, following a trail that takes you through small hamlets and past terraced rice fields and lush forests, before depositing you at your next lodge in Ghandruk some five hours later. From here the views of the surrounding mountains are truly a sight to behold. (B,L,D) DAY 4: HIMALAYA LODGE - CHOMRONG (2170M) The trail this morning begins with a steep downhill towards the Kyumnu Khola, a tributary of the Modi River. Stopping here for lunch, this afternoon you'll then climb onto the ridge overlooking the western bank of the Modi Khola, to gain a spectacular view of the Matterhorn-like spire of the 7,000 metre high Machhapuchhare. Continuing on to Chomrong, you'll then end the day at the base of Hiunchuli, at the last permanent settlement below the Annapurna Sanctuary. (B,L,D) DAY 5: CHOMRONG - DOVAN (2600M) Spending this morning hiking through a lush rhododendron forest, festooned with ferns and orchids, you'll eventually reach Kuldi Ghar. A small settlement perched on the side of a steep sided valley, from here you'll then descend quickly into a bamboo forest. From here the trail continues over a terrain of tangled roots and fallen bamboo, which at times can be slippery underfoot, before finally arriving at Dovan an hour or so later. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: DOVAN - DEURALI (3230M) Continuing through the bamboo forest this morning, the trail climbs slowly but steadily upwards, eventually emerging above the tree-line. Hiking across the grassy pasture at Tomo (2545m), you then reach the narrowest point in the canyon at Panchenin Barha, the natural 'gateway' into the Sanctuary, where you will find a small shrine beside the trail. (B,L,D) DAY 7: DEURALI - ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP (4100M) Climbing up towards the Hinko Cave this morning, the gorge begins to widen. Ahead you can make out the lateral moraine of the South Annapurna Glacier, with the Modi Khola flowing off to your right. Passing through the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3680m), the trail then continues on towards the Annapurna Base Camp, following the contours of the broad, grassy and, at times, snow-covered valley. Arriving at base camp the view is breathtaking, with a 360-degree panorama presenting the Himalayan peaks in all their glory. (B,L,D) DAY 8: ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP - HIMALAYA (2920M) Enjoying a final look at the majestic views of the Annapurna Sanctuary this morning, you'll then head out through the 'gate' and begin the long descent back into the Modi Khola Valley. (B,L,D) DAY 9: HIMALAYA - CHOMRONG (2170M) A day of steep ascents and descents, you'll retrace your steps back towards Chomrong, passing back through the spectacular rhododendron and bamboo forests en route. (B,L,D) DAY 10: CHOMRONG - LHANDRUK (1565M) Continuing downhill this morning, you'll then take a detour from the original trail and head down to the 'New Bridge' that crosses the Modi Khola. From here the route flattens out somewhat, eventually bringing you to the small settlement of lodges at Jhinu Danda. Whilst lunch is being prepared this provides the perfect opportunity to take a dip in the hot springs, before continuing on to Lhandruk later this afternoon, some two hours further on. (B,L,D)
DAY 11: LHANDRUK - GURUNG LODGE (1400M) The journey today follows the contours of the hill, negotiating an undulating trail that passes through a rural setting of villages and farmland. You'll have a choice today as to which trail you wish to follow. The slightly easier option is the jeep track, but the more rewarding option follows a natural path that takes in rice paddies and villages. Just let your guide know which you would prefer. Trek time today is around four hours, getting you into Gurung in time for a late lunch. (B,L,D) DAY 12: GURUNG LODGE - KATHMANDU The walk down to the road head at Lumle takes you through the village of Chandrakot this morning. From Lumle you'll then continue back to Pokhara by road, arriving back in the city in time to wish your trek crew a fond farewell before catching the return flight to Kathmandu. Arriving back in the Nepalese capital later today, you'll transfer to a hotel for your final evening. (B,L) DAY 13: KATHMANDU Transfer to the airport today for your international flight out of Kathmandu.
ACCOMMODATION BIRETHANTI SANCTUARY LODGE Sanctuary Lodge is located at 3,600ft, was hand crafted by local artisans and has stunning views of Mt. Machhapuchare, also commonly referred to as the sacred Fish Tail Mountain in the distance. The lodge can be accessed on foot from Nayapool which takes approximately an hour and a half to 2 two hours. This walk takes guests along the beautiful Modi River and past tranquil villages until they reach the lodge. Alternatively guests can hire a 4x4 jeep and drive 30 minutes from Nayapool to the lodge. There are a total of 18 comfortable, twin sized rooms each with ensuite bathroom facilities and an individual front porch with chairs facing the mountain gardens. DHAMPUS BASANTA LODGE Basanta Lodge is located at 4,920ft in Dhampus and offers outstanding panoramic views of the Mardi and Phedi Valleys. Basanta is the smallest of the Ker and Downey lodges with 8 comfortable rooms each with modern ensuite bathroom facilities and panoramic views of the entire Annapurna range. Nearby activities include nature walks that take guests through thick forests of conifer, bamboo and rhododendrons. GHANDRUK HIMALAYA LODGE Himalaya Lodge is situated at 6,500ft in the shadow of the Annapurna and overlooks Ghandruk which was previously used as a popular recruitment location for the Gurkha soldier regiment. This particular lodge is located closer to the mountains and because of this the walk to the lodge is slightly longer and more difficult than the walks to the other Ker and Downey lodges, however is still suitable for all ages. Himalaya Lodge has 11 basic but comfortable rooms with ensuite bathroom facilities, individual porches and chairs with breathtaking views of the towering mountain ranges, terrace fields and surrounding wilderness. KATHMANDU AMBASSADOR GARDEN HOME Built in 1972 the Ambassador Garden Home boutique hotel has been recently renovated giving it a characterful feel of both old and new Nepal. The 18 guest rooms are spacious and comfortable with en suite bathrooms, complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Located in the centre of the Thamel neighbourhood, guests can easily stroll around and enjoy discovering the sights and surrounding area.
