ITINERARY DAY 1: KATHMANDU Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. DAY 2: KATHMANDU Enjoy a full day's guided tour of the Nepalese capital today, taking in the famous historical monuments of Durbar Square including the Kumari Bahal, the old royal palace and the residence of the living goddess. You'll also visit the golden-topped stupa of Swayambunath (The Monkey Temple) and the site of Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in the Kathmandu Valley, situated beside the sacred waters of the Bagmati River. (B) DAY 3: KATHMANDU - POKHARA Following breakfast this morning you will depart Kathmandu by road, heading towards Pokhara, your gateway into the spectacular landscapes of the Annapurna and Ghandruk Mountains. Located nearly 200 kilometres to the west of the capital, Pokhara is blessed with some stunning views of the famed "Fish Tail" mountain of Machhapuchhare, whilst the nearby peace pagoda, overlooking the town from the nearby hills, provides an incredible vantage point from which to take in the panoramic vistas of the neighbouring Himalayas. (B) DAY 4: POKHARA - BIRETHANTI (1150M) In the company of your guides and porters, you will transfer to Lumle this morning and the start point of your trek. Heading out through the lower foothills of the Annapurnas, the views of the Pokhara Valley lie spread out before you, until you drop down towards the Modi River Valley and the Sanctuary Lodge. After a chance to enjoy lunch and the spectacular views of the sacred Fishtail Mountain, this afternoon then provides a chance for an optional walk into the nearby village of Birethanti. (B,L,D) DAY 5: BIRETHANTI - GHANDRUK (2012M) Leaving the lodge after breakfast, your journey takes you past the outlying farms this morning and along the course of the Modi River Valley. Leaving the valley behind you'll then climb towards the high mountain peaks, following a trail that takes you through small hamlets and past terraced rice fields and lush forests, before depositing you at your next lodge in Ghandruk some five hours later. From here the views of the surrounding mountains are truly a sight to behold. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: GHANDRUK Awaking to a stunning sunrise over the Annapurnas, you might like to enjoy tea and coffee in the garden this morning, before joining your guide after breakfast on an exploratory walk through the village and the surrounding countryside. Ghandruk was once a major recruitment centre for the famous Gurkha regiment and today the village women still maintain a tradition for weaving beautifully made Nepalese rugs. (B,L,D) DAY 7: GHANDRUK - LHANDRUK (1565M) After breakfast you'll set off for Landruk, following a trail out of the village that initially descends steeply towards the Modi River. The base of these cliffs is where Nepal's famed honey hunters climb up to collect the honey. Crossing a suspension bridge to the other side of the Modi River, you'll then head up a series of switchbacks towards the village of Lhandruk. Arriving in time for lunch you can bask in the glorious views as you join your guide on a walk around the village later. (B,L,D) DAY 8: LHANDRUK - MAJGAUN (1400M) Departing the lodge after breakfast, today's trek follows the contours of the hill, negotiating an undulating trail that passes through a picturesque setting of villages and farmland. The walking time to the next lodge is around four hours and you should reach it in time for lunch, after which the rest of the afternoon is free to join an optional hike into the surrounding villages. (B,L,D) DAY 9: MAJGAUN - DHAMPUS (1525M) Beginning with the unspoiled village of Patlekhet, today's trek takes you through a sub-tropical landscape of tree orchids, magnolias and rhododendron forests. A stop at the village of Pothana provides a chance to see where many of the Tibetan traders live and sell their wares, before completing the journey on to the Bastanta Lodge. From up here there are sweeping views across the entire Annapurna Range and after lunch you will be able to take a walk to the old village of Dhampus. (B,L,D) DAY 10: DHAMPUS - POKHARA (1000M) After an early breakfast you will set off along the ridge, before descending the wooded hillside towards the terraced farmland and the valley floor below. A short walk of around one and a half hours to the end of the trek, you will then be driven back to Pokhara by road. Should you wish to you can make a stop at the Tibetan refugee camp on the way back, to spend a little time exploring the temple complex. (B)
DAY 11: POKHARA - KATHMANDU Morning transfer back to the airport for the flight to Kathmandu. Free afternoon. (B) DAY 12: KATHMANDU Transfer to the airport today for your international flight out of Kathmandu.
ACCOMMODATION BIRETHANTI SANCTUARY LODGE Sanctuary Lodge is located at 3,600ft, was hand crafted by local artisans and has stunning views of Mt. Machhapuchare, also commonly referred to as the sacred Fish Tail Mountain in the distance. The lodge can be accessed on foot from Nayapool which takes approximately an hour and a half to 2 two hours. This walk takes guests along the beautiful Modi River and past tranquil villages until they reach the lodge. Alternatively guests can hire a 4x4 jeep and drive 30 minutes from Nayapool to the lodge. There are a total of 18 comfortable, twin sized rooms each with ensuite bathroom facilities and an individual front porch with chairs facing the mountain gardens. DHAMPUS BASANTA LODGE Basanta Lodge is located at 4,920ft in Dhampus and offers outstanding panoramic views of the Mardi and Phedi Valleys. Basanta is the smallest of the Ker and Downey lodges with 8 comfortable rooms each with modern ensuite bathroom facilities and panoramic views of the entire Annapurna range. Nearby activities include nature walks that take guests through thick forests of conifer, bamboo and rhododendrons. GHANDRUK HIMALAYA LODGE Himalaya Lodge is situated at 6,500ft in the shadow of the Annapurna and overlooks Ghandruk which was previously used as a popular recruitment location for the Gurkha soldier regiment. This particular lodge is located closer to the mountains and because of this the walk to the lodge is slightly longer and more difficult than the walks to the other Ker and Downey lodges, however is still suitable for all ages. Himalaya Lodge has 11 basic but comfortable rooms with ensuite bathroom facilities, individual porches and chairs with breathtaking views of the towering mountain ranges, terrace fields and surrounding wilderness. KATHMANDU AMBASSADOR GARDEN HOME Built in 1972 the Ambassador Garden Home boutique hotel has been recently renovated giving it a characterful feel of both old and new Nepal. The 18 guest rooms are spacious and comfortable with en suite bathrooms, complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Located in the centre of the Thamel neighbourhood, guests can easily stroll around and enjoy discovering the sights and surrounding area.
