Monthly Newsletter of Ye Olde Car Club President Jim Ayers 619-1895 Vice Pres Ron Smith 628-9662 Treasurer Bob Gough 628-1493 Secretary Martha Shreve 582-7530 Mary Fraser 946-9850 Editor Dennis Jackson 547-0916 Web Master Scott Noga 545-5903 Blog Editor Dennis Jackson 547-0916 Oct Events Mike s Exxon Retirement The last full service gas station went out of business on September 15 on First Ave and Washington Ave. Mike and his wife were retiring from business so John Trumbo requested that several cars come down to the filling station around 4 pm to give Mike a good send off. About 20 cars showed up, 14 of which were either Model T or A. These 14 were eventually parked next to the gas pumps and the photo shoot was on. An hour of our time really put a

smile on Mike s face and his wife was taking pictures all over the place. Good job!! Pasco Senior Center Luncheon Around 10:30 am the first of 8 vehicles from the club started showing up at the Pasco Senior Center. Bob Gough, Bill Houchin, Robert Hill, Dave Donaldson, Ed Edwards, Joe Kuhns, Martha Shreve, Martha Allen, and Jim Ayers were in attendance. About 3 other cars came to the event as well. Hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans were served along with ice cream and cookies for desert. Many questions were asked about the cars by the attending crowd. It was a very enjoyable luncheon. City Church Show & Shine On Saturday, the 15 of October City Church near 10th and Union Ave in Kennewick held their annual show and shine. This is a fund raiser to financially help parents of children with cancer to pay bills. Just like last year it was a great

success. Approximately 200 vehicles attended. Hot Wings from many of the local restaurants were made available at a reasonable price. The wing eating contest was held about 2:30 pm and the awards were given out around 3 pm. Ye Olde Car Club had about 12 cars at the show and put up a portable cover to shade the participants. The weather cooperated and everyone had a good time. Terry s Split End Tour Terry Shegurd came up with an idea for a short car tour around Kennewick So on October 20th we all meet at the Kennewick Senior Center and had lunch. We were given great service in our own room and the food

was very good. Then we walked over to the Benton County Museum and viewed all the artifacts. The most striking part of the museum is the beautiful petrified wood floor at the entry. It sure is a good place to bring back memories from the past. Then we all followed Terry as he led us on a short tour through a canyon road right in town. I didn t know that when the 10th Ave Bridge was out, this was the main route. Then things got a little confused on the way back to an Ice Cream parlor. At 10th Ave. the stop light is quite long. By the time the second half of the cars got across 10 Ave the first half of the cars were out of sight. So we came to a split ending. In typical car guy fashion all was not lost. The last half of the cars regrouped and went to a different Ice Cream parlor than the first half went. In the end everyone had a sweet treat. Submitted By Jim Ayers

What a year. It s finally slowing down but don t think it s over. We still have some events to go to. The West Richland Veterans Day Parade on the 5th of November is one of the last events of the year The Christmas Party will be held at 6:00 PM at the Kennewick Toni Roma s restaurant on December 13, Tuesday. Election of officers and an optional gift exchange will take place. See you there. The Wednesday morning meetings are seeing 36 to 37 people in attendance. It s great to see such and active group. If anyone has something they would like to create an event with please let me know. In cold weather cabin fever can get a little out of hand. This month the fleece jackets and polo shirts with the radiator emblem embroidered became available in different colors and sizes. The jackets were just in time for the cooler weather. Very comfortable. If your interested in buying some of these please speak with Ron Smith. Tool boxes for Richland High The morning of October 27th Bob Gough, Gary Boehnke, and Jim Ayers drove into the auto shop around 9:30 am. In the back of each of the restored pickups was a brand new 5 drawer roll around tool box. Inside each tool box is a 600 Ft Lb pneumatic wrench, a new set of wrenches, and a new set of screw drivers. Steve, the teacher in charge of the auto shop welcomed us along with all the students. Both Steve and the students were very happy to get the new equipment. The students were really interested in the old rigs and asked many questions while inspecting the vehicles. We should maybe do this again next year. Submitted by: Jim Ayers

Tombstone Tales Sat the 29th we attended the performance of tombstone tales put on by volunteers from chrest museum. The concept is a history lesson on who some of our pioneers were and how the lived and died. This is accomplished by actors dressed in period costumes and sitting by the head stones of the people that they are portraying and as the crowd approaches them they go into their act explaining how things were back then and how they were affected by them. Quite a bit of research goes in to each character and is reviewed by the descendants for accuracy. You can see by the picture that they get quite a large turn out. Our cars are there for effect. If you have never been there to witness this, you should make it a must see next year.
