DAY 02: CANCUN / (Tour to Chichen Itza archeological park) INC: B/L/D Breakfast. Today we will pick you up early in the morning and drive 1.5 hrs southeast of the city of Merida to the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The name of Chichen Itza comes from the Mayan words: Chi (Mouth), Chen (hole or well) and Itza (Itza people). All together, these Mayan words means "At the mouth of the Well of the Itza people". The visit will be leaded by an expert and knowledgeable guide, who will explain in detail about the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the way of living of the Mayan people. Explore the main buildings of this ceremonial city standing as the masterpiece the Pyramid of Kukulkan, the largest and most important ceremonial building in the ancient city. Walk over a "Sac beh" or white path used for ceremonial purposes to get to the Sacred Cenote, used for the worship of Chaac, the Mayan god of rain. This cenote was also considered by the Mayans as an entrance to the underworld. In Chichen Itza you will also visit the Temple of the Thousand Columns, The Observatory, The Ball Court, other not at all less important buildings. Then and after a long walk through the majestic Mayan city and new wonder of the world, you will enjoy a delicious Yucatecan food. After lunch we will transfer you to Cancun. DAY 02: MERIDA (Tour Uxmal and Kabah) INC: B/L After breakfast, full day tour to visit Uxmal and Kabah archeological areas. First we will visit Uxmal ruins, one of the most popular ancient mayan cities. Uxmal in maya means three times built. Here the guide will explain in depth the Puuc architect style of buildings such as the Nun's Quadrangle, the Ball court, the Turtle House and the Governor Palace. This Puuc style stand as a highly decorative and detailed one. It own its name to the Puuc hills located in the region. The Governor Palace is the most famous structure in Uxmal because it is the best example of the Puuc Style. It had been renowed as the most beautiful building in Mesoamerica After our Uxmal tour you will explore the archeological site of Kabah, Mayan name wich means lord of a strong hand. Kabah is linked to Uxmal by a sacbeh" or white road used for ceremonial purposes. Kabah is one of the stops of the Puuc Route and here you can find many structures with carved masks of the God Chaac, the important god of rain for the Mayans. Due to the absence of cenotes in this region Mayans had to build their own cisterns and prayed for rain to his God. Then, a private guided tour of the site begins at the Great Plaza, the heart of Chichen Itza. Visiting the Ball Game Court, the Temple of the Jaguars, the famous Temple (pyramid) of God KuKulcan, the Tzompantli Platform, the Temple of the Warriors or Temple of The One Thousand Columns. Then you will visit the Sacred Cenote, the Mayan Observatory and the set of buildings constructed during the Classic Maya Period, The Nunnery, La Iglesia and Akab Dzib. Lunch will be served at Mayaland Hotel. Enjoy the afternoon relaxing by the pool or taking an additional horseback riding tour. You can also stroll through our beautiful gardens and watch the birds. The Yucatan boasts more species than the United States and Canada combined. If you are staying at the Hotel Chichen Itza you will be driven back to your hotel. In the evening we will attend the light and sound show staged nightly at the archaeological park. A play of light on the ancient buildings and tales of warlike rulers, priests and Mayan Gods weave their spell. You will leave Chichen Itza enchanted. DAY 05: CHICHEN ITZA (Tour to Ek Balam-Rio Lagartos pink flamingo reserve) INC: B/L After breakfast, we will depart to the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula via the magnificent site of Ek Balam to Rio Lagartos on the Mexican Gulf coast. Ek Balam is one of the most mysterious cities ever discovered. Its main temple features a Jaw of jaguar with delicate stucco relieve and feathered sculptures. At arriving to Rio Lagartos, we will take a wonderful boat ride through the mangroves to visit the feeding ground of the beautiful pink flamingoes. A box lunch will be provided. Return to the hotel for a late afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Hotel. DAY 06: CHICHEN ITZA / (City tour Izamal and Merida) / UXMAL INC: B/L/D After breakfast, we will depart to Merida calling at the colonial city of Izamal on the way, where we will visit the Convent of San Francisco de Padua, the central park, the regional market and the pyramid of Kinich Kakmo located downtown. Upon arrival in Merida, we will take a walking tour of the city center visiting the Zocalo or Main Square, site of the stately Cathedral; the Casa de Montejo, a 16th century home of Don Francisco de Montejo, the founder of the city; the City Hall and palace of the State Government. We will take a walking tour of the city market for authentic arts and crafts. Lunch is served at a typical Mexican restaurant where you will taste a sample of authentic local cuisine and listen to the serenades of strolling trovadores. We continue our walking tour to the church of Tercera Orden, a beautiful 17th century monastery; the Peon Contreras Theater and the University of Yucatan. The ruins of Tulum are perched high atop a cliff, against the awe inspiring backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. This archaeological site is a one of a kind. Tulum flourished in late Post-classical times with buildings dating back to the 12th century. It was once an important trading port, one of the few Mayan cities still inhabited when the Spaniards arrived. You will take a guided tour of the ruins to learn about the secrets of the Mayans. Your guide will point out important sites, explaining the historical significance of buildings such as the Castle, the Temple of the Masks and the God Chaac. Then we will drive 20 minutes back toward Cancun, to the incredible natural aquatic theme park created by the Mayan gods themselves: Xel-Ha. This special place gathers the best of the Mexican Caribbean all in one place. Enjoy nature through the crystal clear waters of this spectacular natural aquarium. Arriving at the base, we welcome you with a refreshing cocktail. We will give an introductory workshop on how to use the Segway and the main rules of our tour. Then we will depart on board a Segway on this unforgettable adventure. We pass in front of the Punta Cana Ecological Foundation and the Garden of Palm trees, where we will see over 23 different types of palms. Then, we head through the Ecological Foundation to see the greenhouse, apiary (bee farm), ranch, cultivation of sugarcane, farm, and more.
